    Minecraft Forever Fan Scholarship
Ever since its introduction to the world stage, Minecraft has been a staple in my gaming library. I recall the early days when Mojang Studios and Markus Persson released it to the public, and it seemed like everyone was instantly transported to another reality. That included me. I first played it on my mobile device and soon after acquired the PC version. Countless hours were spent creating amazing builds and forging deep connections with others. This brings me to my favorite aspect of the game. I love Minecraft's multiplayer features above all else. While the PC offers online multiplayer, I prefer the console version. Growing up in Ireland, I did not have many friendships as I was marginalized often due to my faith and foreign background. However, I had the companionship of my three younger siblings. Ireland's weather frequently confined us indoors, but Minecraft provided an escape. We explored diverse biomes, mined for diamonds, and built villages to defend against hordes of mobs. The shared experiences and adventures we found within our amazing worlds were invaluable. The troubles of the outside world faded as we bonded over countless hours of gameplay. Due somewhat to Minecraft and the multiplayer feature, my siblings became my best friends. Our relationship remains strong today, a testament to the enduring impact of those shared experiences. While Minecraft boasts many impressive features, the multiplayer feature stands out as the most exceptional. An experience such as Minecraft adventures and world-building are better shared and I am grateful to the developers for prioritizing multiplayer interaction.
Marshall and Dorothy Smith Music Scholarship
I grew up immersed in music. My parents, dedicated Christian missionaries to Ireland, were also the music directors at our church and accomplished music teachers. While my mother specialized in classical piano, my father excelled in electric guitar. This unique blend of Mozart and Jimi Hendrix, or Bach and Eric Clapton, ignited a lifelong passion within me. I fell in love with music in its entirety, from its theoretical underpinnings to its performance and production. As a young child, I began writing songs and, with limited resources, experimenting with recording them. This early exploration solidified my desire to pursue music production and helped me discover music production as my calling. My unique upbringing gave me opportunities to learn and grow musically. Immersed in a world shaped by my parents' careers as both missionaries and music educators, I was exposed to a diverse array of musical influences. From backstage at their conferences as a child backstage, to the intimate gatherings in our church home groups, I was constantly surrounded by music. A standout memory is being concealed on stage during my parents’ performances at the annual Summerfire Conference in Ireland. I remember being in awe of how awesome everything was. These formative years cultivated my musical identity and fueled my aspirations. As I got older, I went on a musical journey spanning Ireland, Europe, and the United States. Performing in a variety of venues, from intimate homes to prestigious churches and even to a New York Broadway Theatre. These awesome experiences shaped my future goals and vision. My career ambitions extend far beyond myself. I envision establishing an independent recording studio that empowers the next generation of artists, producers, and musicians. By making music accessible to low-income families, I aim to transform it from a distant dream into a tangible career path. Having grown up in a low-income household, I understand the challenges associated with limited resources. The studio will focus on developing comprehensive programs, including music production workshops, songwriting classes, and artist development boot camps, tailored to ambitious young people striving to achieve their musical aspirations. Unlike profit-driven record labels and studios, my goal is to foster meaningful relationships and equip artists with the necessary tools for long-term success. I plan to collaborate with schools and community centers to find and nurture young talent. Through a combination of affordable rates, scholarships, and potential local business sponsorships, I aim to create a sustainable model that prioritizes artistic growth over financial gain. Additionally, I would hold a seasonal concert of all of our outstanding students to raise additional funding. By providing opportunities and mentorship, I hope to inspire a new generation of music lovers and creators CU Denver's recording arts program is a crucial stepping stone toward realizing my vision. The program's curriculum and extensive network will equip me to mentor and guide aspiring artists. I will develop both production and management skills to support their growth. With the generous support of the Marshall and Dorothy Smith Music Scholarship, I can focus on my studies without the burden of financial constraints. This scholarship is an investment in my future, and ultimately, in the success of countless young musicians.
    Carlos F. Garcia Muentes Scholarship
American society is built on the foundation of immigrants. Since its inception, the United States has always been built on the principle that people from distant lands could come here in pursuit of a better, more rewarding life. From the Dutch Christians on the Mayflower to the immigrants of today, the consistent theme in this country’s history is the influx of immigrants. I have come to America in hopes of a better future, for opportunity and to start a family. Others have come to this place for refuge, others have come for opportunity. No matter the reasons, there is no debate that immigrants are an essential part of the United States' structure and foundation. My parents' journey as immigrants has profoundly shaped my perspective on life. Their decision to relocate our family from the Netherlands to Ireland as Christian missionaries when I was a child exposed them to significant challenges. They faced marginalization from various sectors of society due to their ethnicity and profession. While in school I endured years of vicious bullying as an outsider. Language barriers further added to their difficulties, as my father had to learn English from scratch. Despite these adversities, their resilience inspires me. They overcame obstacles and established a music school, making music accessible to the community. Their legacy of service extends beyond their business, as they actively contribute to their community through their church as pastors. Their unwavering faith and sacrifices’ have positively impacted countless lives, a testament to the immigrant spirit of perseverance and contribution. The pursuit of greater opportunities drove my journey to the United States. Coming from a missionary family, financial constraints made the prospect of immigrating a challenge. Years of planning and frugal saving were necessary to make this a reality. My first taste of American life came in 2018 during a summer internship at a church. There, I met my future wife. Marriage opened doors to permanent relocation and with it pursuit of higher education. However, the path to residency was fraught with obstacles. The Green Card application process was a grueling ordeal, marked by overwhelming paperwork, financial strain, and a lengthy two-year wait. Navigating this complex system without legal counsel added significant stress to our lives. However, we had a great network of friends, pastors, and church members that we had made here that supported us at every turn. With their help, I am here today. The Carlos F. Garcia Muentes Scholarship represents a pivotal opportunity to advance my educational goals. As the first in my family to pursue higher education, I am eager to break new ground. The financial support provided by this scholarship would be instrumental in alleviating the burden of student loans and covering essential living expenses. Such assistance would enable me to focus on my academic pursuits and also contribute significantly to my family's overall well-being. I know that this contribution will open the doorways I came to America for. Attending CU Denver is a crucial step toward realizing my potential and honoring my family’s legacy. Pursuing a Master's degree in Music Production not only aligns with my passion and career aspirations but will also allow me to contribute to my community. I am committed to carrying forward the legacy of resilience and compassion exemplified by my parents. Their ability to overcome adversity while extending love to those who opposed them is a profound inspiration. With the support of the Carlos F. Garcia Muentes Scholarship and the encouragement of my family, I am confident in my ability to achieve my goals and become a successful contributor to society.
    Dreamers Scholarship
Music has been an intrinsic part of my life. I have often found solace, security and inspiration when writing music or performing as a musician. Growing up in a household where my parents were both church music directors and Christian missionaries, I was immersed in its transformative power. Our journey from the Netherlands to Ireland when I was two allowed my parents to share their passion for music with a new community. They established a music school from their home, embodying the principles of love and charity by making music accessible to all. Inspired by their legacy, I aspire to continue their work by completing my music degree at CU Denver. The Dreamers Scholarship would be a pivotal investment, not only in my education but also in the future I envision. Born and raised briefly in the Netherlands, I hold Dutch citizenship. When I was two years old, my family moved to Ireland to serve the local church community. Over the past twenty-five years, they have dedicated themselves to serving the people there. I completed both my primary and secondary education in Ireland. However, being a foreigner with different religious beliefs made me a target for bullying and isolation. Often excluded from sports and other activities, I often felt like an outsider. I often found myself overlooked by classmates, teachers, and coaches. The constant stress and anxiety significantly impacted my academic performance. This drove me deeper into music as a way of escape. I found strength in writing songs as a form of prayer to God. Despite these challenges, I persevered and graduated high school with a 3.0 GPA. My parents were my biggest supporters and have always been there for me. Without them, I don't think I would be here today pursuing academic success. My journey to the United States was another significant challenge. The visa process was arduous and filled with uncertainty. With unwavering support from my parents, I navigated the complexities of the immigration system. Despite financial challenges, relocating to a new continent, and adapting to a new society and culture, I am driven to achieve my educational goals. My ultimate goal is to earn a master's degree in music. I envision using this education as a foundation for my career as an independent producer and studio engineer. My studio will provide affordable services to underprivileged artists and producers, making music accessible to those who might otherwise be excluded. Growing up in a low-income family, I firsthand experienced the challenges faced by aspiring creatives lacking resources. Unlike profit-driven studios and labels, I aim to build genuine relationships with my clients while offering them affordable services. I want to provide music programs to help set them up for success as well as develop scholarships to encourage them to pursue careers in music. To bring this vision to life requires not only education but also financial investment. This scholarship would be instrumental in building the foundation for my studio, allowing me to carry on my parents' legacy of making music accessible to all. Despite being a non-US citizen, I am determined to overcome any obstacles and realize this dream. With the Dreamers Scholarship as a catalyst, I am ready to transform my passion into a tangible force for good. By investing in my education, you are not only supporting my dreams but also cultivating a future where music is universally accessible. I am eager to contribute to a world where creativity knows no bounds, and talent is nurtured regardless of background.
Pierson Family Scholarship for U.S. Studies
Born in the Netherlands, I moved to Ireland at two when my family followed a deep-rooted tradition of Christian missionary work. Witnessing my parents serve the church and community left a big impact on me. Alongside their service, they pioneered a music school and served as church music directors. Being brought up like this instilled in me a passion for music and serving others. This passion, fueled by a desire for further education, led me to pursue an associate's degree in music and then attend Bible College. There, I honed my theological understanding and gained valuable experience in music production at their professional studio. Assisting producers and artists while recording music and traveling to perform in churches. These experiences solidified my desire to study recording arts. Now, I bring this combined background to CU Denver's Recording Arts program. Education was a core principle in our household. My parents instilled in us the value of pursuing the best education possible to open doors for future opportunities. CU Denver's rich history in music production and extensive network solidified my desire to relocate to the United States, although the process was far from easy. The sheer cost of applications can be discouraging, but my determination remained unwavering. As the first in my family to come to America, especially from a low-income background, securing a visa reinforced my "never give up" attitude. The odds may seem stacked, but this experience has proven that perseverance prevails. I intend to carry this attitude with me as I aim for a master's degree in my field. My greatest inspiration, fueling this pursuit, is my parents. They've always encouraged and pushed me to reach my full potential. Having walked a similar path, moving countries to serve as missionaries, they understand the challenges of cultural adaptation, establishing stability, and navigating new customs. Their unwavering support, through words of encouragement, numerous prayers, and care packages from home, continues to this day. I hope to carry their legacy of music and service with me. Post-graduation, I aspire to establish an independent recording studio with a mission to make music creation accessible. My goal is to empower artists and producers from low-income backgrounds by providing them with resources and programs to fuel their musical passions. Unlike profit-driven labels and studios who often have no regard for the person, I aim to foster meaningful relationships while offering a platform that sets them up for success. I hope to make a positive change in the music industry with such methods. My vision, music should be a viable career option for anyone with the talent and dedication to pursue it. This vision embodies the very principles my parents have championed for the past three decades: love, service, and dedication to creating positive change. By awarding me this scholarship, you'll not only be supporting my education but also investing in the future generation of artists and producers.
    Randall Davis Memorial Music Scholarship
Growing up, my parents: missionaries and church music directors, brought together people of all backgrounds in church songs and music. Rich and poor, native and immigrant, everyone joined in one voice throughout the church and community. From a young age, I witnessed the power of music and how it can be used to bring positive change. As missionaries, they needed to support themselves, so they pioneered a music school. This school became their platform for reaching the community and making music affordable and accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. Seeing this firsthand sparked my passion to do the same. My goal is to carry this legacy on to the next generation of musicians and producers. At the age of seven, I was given the chance to play drums in the church worship band. Unfortunately, we couldn't afford a drum kit for me to practice at home. When my grandfather heard about this, he decided to support this dream, finding a great deal on a kit for me. From that point on, I dedicated countless hours to honing my skills. As I grew older, I had the incredible honor of serving on production and worship bands at various church conferences across Europe, Ireland, and even the US. While music wasn't the central focus of these events, I witnessed firsthand its power to inspire change and unite people. This experience further solidified both my passion for music and my vision for the future. I'm currently enrolled in the Recording Arts program at CU Denver. After graduating, I have a vision of establishing an independent recording studio that empowers aspiring artists and producers from low-income backgrounds. I understand the struggles of having limited resources to produce music and create sonic masterpieces. Unlike profit-driven labels and studios that prioritize financial gain, I want to develop programs and opportunities focused on building genuine relationships and providing introductory music education to those who need it These programs will not only inspire but also serve as a foundation for a successful music career. Pursuing music shouldn't be difficult for artists or producers; it should be an incredible and enriching experience. Furthermore, I aim to incorporate the legacy my parents have spent the past three decades building: serving others and making music accessible. My time at CU Denver is a crucial step in realizing this vision. The Recording Arts program has a rich history, dating back nearly half a century. This established program offers invaluable industry networks that will be instrumental in achieving my goals. Additionally, the classes I take will equip me with the skills and knowledge needed to develop these programs and operate a professional recording studio. The Randall Davis Memorial Scholarship will not only help me achieve my education, but it will also be an investment in the future artists and producers of tomorrow. This scholarship will contribute to a lasting legacy of serving others and making music accessible to everyone.
John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
Music has always been a prominent aspect of my life. Growing up, both my parents were missionaries in Ireland, serving primarily as music directors in our church. Having this background in faith, the values of loving others and helping those around you were deeply instilled in me. In addition to serving the church, they pioneered a small music school right in our home. Surrounded by the sounds of classic hymns, contemporary church music, and a vast array of genres constantly being taught, I fell quickly in love with music. By the age of seven, I was already involved in the church band which provided the foundations of my passion for music. Having developed this love for music early on, my future path seemed clear. In my early teenage years, I began writing music with the dream of one day recording it myself. However, coming from a missionary family, resources were scarce. Despite this setback, I persevered, trying to produce music with whatever I could find. This meant using cheap microphones and free software with limited capabilities. Graduating highschool marked a turning point. I began researching colleges with music production programs. In 2018, I enrolled in a community college to pursue a degree in this field. Since then, I have immigrated to the United States and gotten married. While these life changes necessitated a break from my education, I am thrilled to be back on track this fall. I am enrolled and transferring to CU Denver to complete my music production degree. My academic aspirations extend beyond my own career. I seek to incorporate the values of loving others and serving people with my passion for music. My long-term goal is to make music accessible for everyone. My vision is to one day own and operate an independent recording studio. Coming from a low-income background myself, I understand the struggle of lacking resources to start producing music. I want to provide artists and producers from similar backgrounds with the opportunity and tools to take their first steps in this pursuit. Unlike professional studios and labels focused solely on profits, I aim to create an environment that fosters meaningful relationships while offering affordable services to help them be established for success. My vision also includes developing programs for both aspiring artists and producers, equipping them with the foundational tools they need to launch their production journeys. By awarding me the John Young Scholarship, you wouldn't just be supporting my academic journey. You would be investing in opportunities for the future generation of artists and producers, helping build a community dedicated to improving the music industry and making a positive impact on countless lives. This, in turn, would allow me to carry on the legacy of fostering love for music that my parents have built for so many years.
    WCEJ Thornton Foundation Low-Income Scholarship
Introduction: My single greatest achievement to date has been immigrating to the United States, a decision that has significantly shaped my personal and professional development. While my family has a history of international travel due to missionary work, relocating to a different continent and establishing a new life was not yet done in this generation of my family. This journey has proven invaluable, leading to marriage, a supportive community, and the pursuit of further education – opportunities I wouldn't have encountered in the land I grew up in, Ireland. Reasons for Immigration: My decision to immigrate to the United States was multifaceted. The primary motivation stemmed from meeting my wife, who is American. Additionally, I sought a unique educational experience that combined biblical studies with music production. Fortunately, I discovered a bible college in Pennsylvania with an exceptional music program, aligned perfectly with my aspirations. The access to established networks within the American music industry presented a significant advantage over the limited opportunities available in Irish universities. Challenges and Perseverance: Fall 2019 marked my arrival in Pennsylvania to attend bible college. Shortly after, the global pandemic swept across the world, presenting unforeseen difficulties. Separated from familiar surroundings by a vast ocean, the pandemic's complexities fueled moments of doubt concerning my decision to move permanently to the United States. The uncertainty regarding my future and the separation from my fiancée (now wife) were particularly challenging. However, amidst these trials, I persevered. I completed my bible studies and secured a student internship within the college's music program. Growth and Resilience: These past five years in the United States have been instrumental in fostering my resilience. Navigating the processes of acquiring a Green Card and securing employment opportunities tested my resolve. However, the experience also revealed an inner strength I hadn't fully recognized. The independence and perseverance required for such a journey forge a profound transformation in character and perspective. While not everyone thrives in such circumstances, I can confidently say this experience has accelerated my personal growth. Looking back at the person I was upon arriving in 2019 compared to who I am today is a testament to this remarkable transformation. Educational Pursuits and Future Vision: The importance of education is one of the firm pillars of our marriage. Recognizing the limitations of my associate's degree, we have embarked on a joint pursuit of master's degrees at CU Denver. Education plays a crucial role for me as I aim to establish a career post graduating. Aspirations for the Future: My vision is to establish an independent recording studio. This venture will cater to aspiring artists and producers from low-income backgrounds, providing them with the resources and guidance necessary to take their first steps within the music industry. Unlike many established studios, our focus will be on affordability and fostering meaningful relationships with artists through educational programs. My ultimate goal is to become not only a recording facilitator but also a mentor, empowering aspiring artists to realize their dreams and aspirations. I want to make a career in the music industry a viable option. Conclusion: Immigrating to the United States has been a transformative experience, shaping me into a more resilient, adaptable, and goal-oriented individual. The challenges encountered have solidified my personal and professional aspirations, allowing me to envision a future dedicated to nurturing the creative endeavors of others.

Years of serving as a musician on international missions solidified my vision. Events like History Makers Latvia, Summerfire Conference, and my work with Summit International School of Ministry showcased the power of music to inspire and empower. Witnessing the impact firsthand fueled my desire to build this platform. James B. McCleary Music Scholarship
Growing up as missionaries in Ireland, my parents were church music directors. Being missionaries is not lucrative so they pioneered a music school from our home to put food on the table. This unique upbringing exposed me to a daily repertoire containing the intricate melodies of Mozart and Bach to the electrifying riffs of Steve Vai and Toto. Intertwined with these were the uplifting choruses and hymns we sang every Sunday at church. My parents inspired me with the way they used music to love and serve others. Through their example, I witnessed the power of music to positively impact our community. As a missionary's child, Ireland had its challenges. From the ages of six to sixteen, I often endured violent and malicious bullying. I was ridiculed for my faith and my status as a foreigner. However, I found strength in my faith and music. In my free time, I wrote and sang songs as a form of prayer which brought peace and helped me cope with the deep depression. In a very real sense music saved my life. At the age of seven, I began playing drums for the worship team in our small church. In the years thereafter, my growing involvement with the church opened doors for me to participate in mission trips across the world. Witnessing the power of music to inspire positive change was truly amazing. Though music wasn't the primary focus of these trips, they instilled in me a desire and passion to use music to inspire others. During this time, I also earned an associate's degree in music production. Currently, I am transferring to CU Denver to complete my degree in Recording Arts. The vision of my education and career is to own and operate a recording studio. The goal is to make music accessible and affordable to aspiring artists and producers who come from underprivileged backgrounds. I am not unfamiliar with the challenges of lacking the resources to be creative. Unlike traditional studios and labels that prioritize profit over the artist, I aim to develop programs that benefit the artist in holistic ways. The program will foster meaningful relationships, creative space, and resources as well as a basic music education to equip them for success. Music has transformed my life, offering refuge, purpose, and a desire to empower others. My goal is to create a future where music can continue to be a transformative force in the lives of the next generation. Coming from a low-income home resources and finances are earned through means of work. This scholarship would help me by alleviating some of the financial burdens so that I can focus on my studies. Essentially, this scholarship wouldn't just support my education; it would contribute to the vision that surpasses me, it is an investment into the vision of using music to impact the future generations of artists and producers.
