Perhaps I have always been drawn to them because of the striking similarity my legs share with theirs, but for as long as I can remember, chickens have always had a special place in my heart. So much so that I am now studying them as a Poultry Science undergraduate student at Texas A&M University. My eyes have been opened to so many doors in the poultry industry since I began this line of study and I can not wait to see where I end up in the industry of the most consumed protein in the world. Although chickens take the cake as my favorite, animals in general have always played in integral part of my life and I have grown to have a profound appreciation for all creatures. I grew up on a small farm in New Braunfels, Texas where I helped raise cattle, sheep, goats, and of course... chickens. Because of this agriculture became a deep passion of mine and before I knew it, FFA took the place of sports. For eight years my life revolved around raising and showing market labs all across Texas. Everyday after school I would spend my all time working with my sheep to ensure they would perform they best they could at the shows. In addition to showing, I had the privilege of serving in many leadership roles in FFA. The most profound taking place last years when I had the opportunity to serve the 170,000 Texas FFA members as a Texas FFA State Officer. An experience I learned so much from and will cherish indefinitely. All of this paved the path for me to desire to go to an amazing agricultural school like Texas A&M and study in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. I may not be entirely sure what I would like to do after college, however I know I want to work in the poultry/food industry. I recently was honored to receive an internship with Simmons Foods in northwest Arkansas as their Leadership and Development intern for the summer of 2024. I am so excited for this opportunity because this internship combines my love for agriculture, poultry, and people. My dream career allows me to have an impact of agriculture and animals by working with people and advocating for them. For now, however, I am staying focused on working hard to maintain high academic standards and remain highly involved in my department and the university as a whole. My determination and grit fueled by my love animals, and I simply will not rest until I succeed in pouring back into and industry that has poured so much into me.
