I did not think that college would be so expensive. I know that I qualify for FASFA and federal Pell grants, but that is still not enough. Moving thrice in 2023 made me realize that one needs an extraordinary amount of money to survive in this world. I try to save 80% of my check from working at a local retail store (Calvin Klein), but sometimes I need to spend the money, such as when I sent my mother to Mexico after one of her sisters was gravely ill. I did not think twice about that decision, and I do not regret it. Now that my senior year is coming to an end, I now more than ever determined to find full-time employment because I am not sure if I will be able to pay for college. When I get full-time employment, I will still save 80% of my check and move it towards my savings account with a local credit union.
I aspire to become a registered nurse while earning my bachelor's degree and knowing what I wanted to do after high school was important for me in planning my courses accordingly. Unfortunately, I moved three times during 2023, which slightly disrupted my academic plans, however, I was able to adapt to my ever-changing class schedules. Fortunately, I have persevered and passed my classes thus far with As or Bs. As a future registered nurse (RN) my responsibility would be to care for the patient as a whole. To not only address the physical needs of the patient, but also help them when it comes to their emotional, social, and spiritual health. Being Jesuit-educated or not, I will advocate for those coming from marginalized populations and promote healthcare access for anyone, regardless of their background. I commit my service to serving others while still making sure that all medical practices are for the good of the people. I commit to upholding the highest ethical standards when it comes to my professionalism, and I will continue to engage in my personal and professional development throughout my life. As a leader, I will strive to provide the utmost patient-centered care. Finally, if there are opportunities to serve the public, I will make an effort to ensure I achieve that because I firmly believe that giving back to the community is is of the utmost importance in order to ensure the vitality of out communities.

Unfortunately, I moved three times during 2023, which slightly disrupted my academic plans, however I was able to adapt to my ever-changing class schedules. Fortunately, I have persevered and passed my classes thus far with As or Bs. I like to plan and prioritize my goals and I achieve this by using my planner. With a separate sheet of paper, I write all the things I need to accomplish, and then with another piece of paper, I write everything down again, this time with things I need to do immediately in red ink, things important but not needed immediately in yellow, and things that can wait in green. Doing so allows me to organize effectively to complete my work.
However, it has not been easy. Moving three times during 2023 has been incredibly difficult, but I overcame the challenges, such as living in tight quarters, not having much food to eat, feeling alone, and lacking proper friends.
What I would like to have accomplished to ensure that I not only graduate on time, but pass all of my accreditation exams are as follows: I would like to make friends during my time at university, have enough money to pay for tuition, continue with writing down my plans on planner, set an allotted time to study, and more than everything, to have a good time while at college. Ultimately, I can only plan so much, but I can prepare for the unexpected, knowing I will bounce back and reach my goal as soon as possible.
My mother has been with me ever since she carried me in her womb and she is the anchor who connects me to my Mexican heritage. As a Latino, my family has always been close even when at times it seemed otherwise. My mother’s teachings and Jesuit values have been taught to me and I carry them with me at all times. As a future registered nurse (RN) my responsibility would be to care for the patient as a whole.
