Being raised in a poor household made me realize how much resilience and determination meant to me. Lack of money didn't allow for much technology but my own curiosity forced me to learn computers and coding on my own online. As I grew more and more skilled, I realized that the absence of technology can truly inhibit a person's ability. This realization fueled my desire to pursue a computer science degree. I would like to be a part of this solution to help close the digital divide through technology. As a way to get some sort of experience, I started volunteering at a nearby community center and taught kids who didn't have computers at home the basics of computers. It has been so great to see them grow in confidence as they acquire skills that can provide them with opportunities in life. Through these experiences I’ve come to understand the transformative power of technology. My goal is to leverage my computer science degree to develop innovative solutions that provide equal access to education resources and opportunities for low-income communities. I can see myself building platforms and tools that will give people the power to break out of the cycle of poverty and realize their potential. I’m deeply passionate about using technology to make a meaningful difference not just in my life but in the lives of others. I would like to help create a world where every person no matter their race or ethnicity has the chance to succeed with the help of technology and education. Pursuing a degree in computer science is the first step in achieving this goal and I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead to make a lasting positive impact on the world.
