I am originally from Ukraine and moved to the United States on my own at the age of 21 in search of better opportunities and a brighter future. Since then, I have spent more than 10 years working as a dental assistant, helping patients feel comfortable and cared for during their dental visits. Through this experience, I discovered my passion for patient care, education, and improving people’s confidence through oral health.
As someone who speaks three languages, I value the ability to connect with people from different backgrounds and help patients feel understood and supported. My experiences as an immigrant and healthcare professional have taught me resilience, adaptability, and compassion.
Now, I am continuing my education to become a dental hygienist so I can take a more active role in preventive care and make an even greater impact in my community. Returning to school as a nontraditional student while balancing responsibilities has required determination and hard work, but it has also strengthened my motivation to succeed.
I am passionate about building a stable future, helping others, and continuing to grow professionally in the dental field. I hope to use my education not only to advance my career, but also to support and inspire others pursuing new opportunities later in life.

Dental Hygiene Basics Scholarship
For more than ten years, I have worked as a lead dental assistant, and during that time I discovered that dentistry is more than a profession to me, it is a way to help people feel comfortable, confident, and cared for. Every day, I have the opportunity to support patients who are nervous, in pain, or embarrassed about their oral health. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is hearing patients tell me that I am gentle, calming, and able to make them feel at ease during their visits. Those moments confirmed for me that I want to continue growing in this field and become a dental hygienist.
Working closely with dentists and hygienists over the years has shown me the important role dental hygienists play in preventive care and patient education. I enjoy building relationships with patients, teaching them about oral health, and helping them feel empowered to take care of themselves. I want to take a more active role in improving patients’ long-term health and confidence, especially for people who may feel anxious about dental treatment. My goal as a future dental hygienist is to combine clinical excellence with compassion so patients feel both cared for and respected.
My journey has also been shaped by resilience and determination. I am originally from Ukraine and have built my life and career while adapting to a new country and culture. I speak three languages, which allows me to connect with patients from different backgrounds and help them feel understood and comfortable during treatment. As someone who values empathy and communication, I believe these experiences will help me make a meaningful contribution to the dental field and the communities I serve.
Returning to school to pursue dental hygiene is both exciting and challenging. Dental hygiene school is a full-time commitment, and because of the demanding schedule, I will have limited ability to work while completing the program. I am financially independent, and my family remains in Ukraine, so I do not have the support system many students rely on. Despite these challenges, I am determined to continue my education and build a stable future through a career I truly love.
Financial preparedness is essential in achieving my educational and professional goals. Receiving this scholarship would help relieve the financial burden of tuition and living expenses, allowing me to focus fully on my studies and clinical training. More importantly, it would bring me one step closer to becoming the dental hygienist I have worked toward for many years. I am committed to using my education to provide compassionate care, improve patients’ oral health, and make a positive difference in the lives of others.
