I grew up in a family that told me I would never amount to anything. When I moved out at 16, I was told not to come running back. When I walked the stage and accepted my 1st college degree, I was as proud of myself as I was spiteful in proving them all wrong.
Many know the story, Mom and Dad split, Mom goes for the worst boyfriend, the drugs start, Dad disappears, and every kind of abuse you can think becomes life's reality for your remaining childhood. I didn't let it break me and I swore I wouldn't be like any of them. I let all the trauma make me strong, hard headed, and determined.
I realized early on that knowledge is powerful, and I have lived a 1000 lives through books and worn multiple hats in reality. After college I worked as a surgical tech. I realized that it didn't come close to the surgeon I had dreamed of being. I was bored and disappointed. 2 weeks post c-section, I started EMT school, worked hard, finished school, and worked as a medic in great cities. The career was rewarding and heartbreaking. I lived and breathed rescue for 8 yrs, until a 2yr old was pushed from a 2nd story window by his drug addict mother, then died in my arms. My heart was done. My stethoscope hung for the final time.
My next adventure was 18 wheels, seeing the country many times over, and a 1 mil miles. Trucking was cut short by a crippling hiking accident. I took it as a sign it was time to do what truly makes my heart content. Helping others sits at the core of my being. I want to be there to listen and help people through life's tough times. Goal: Doctorate of Psychology
