Generosity. Integrity. Honesty. Those are the words that a good neighbor exhibits in their everyday life. In a corrupted world full of many individuals who are in need, it is crucial for us Christians to remain true to God’s words and to exemplify the deeds to do good throughout our community and public service. A good neighbor understands the needs of others and enacts considerate duties to help alleviate the situation, no matter how harmful or stressful the issue may be.
To begin, it is important to understand what a good neighbor exemplifies. A good neighbor shows many noble acts of kindness within the community. They are known for their kind demeanor towards others and are noted for their courteous behavior. When we think of a good neighbor, we think of someone who can lend a helping hand and is trustful in times of need.
When we look back in the Bible to understand the qualities of a good neighbor, we are drawn back to the story of the Good Samaritan. In this parable, this kind spirit overlooked the thoughts of cultural enemies and showed love and care for others, needless in their condition. The Samaritan was always there for others, able to lend a helping hand. The main message of this story is to inform everyone to treat one another with kind respect, just as you do to yourself; “to love our neighbor as ourselves”.
As God’s faithful children, we are called to consider acts of charity and generosity towards others. Not only is it our duty to serve the Lord, but we are also called to serve the people, especially those who are sick, hungry, or confused. To give alms is one of the most important factors of being a good neighbor and citizen. When doing our good deeds, we also influence others to show acts of kindness as well. Spreading kindness and positivity in a community strengthens the bond of our relationship with each other and the good Lord.
Unfortunately, in this time and age, most young people overlook the importance of demonstrating the commendable qualities of helping others. It is not spoken out enough for the future generations to partake in their service. Without the current leadership and influence of good neighbors, we become lost in humanity, and their guided approach would not be accounted for. As we are surrounded by the good neighbors all around us, we become inspired through their humility and commitment to their shared prosperity for others. This great act of kindness ultimately enables us to return this good deed and pay homage to our community.
As I reflect on my duties and responsibilities as a good neighbor, I look back at my volunteering services. I believe that the most valuable gifts I can bring to my community are my acts of service and time. I would donate my time to help out within the community by attending charity events and participating in soup kitchens to help the needy.
The essentials of being a good neighbor all come down to loving others just as you love yourself. When we treat the people around us with genuine sincere thought, it shall be returned to us with hospitality and gratitude. In return, we are called to return the same generosity, integrity, and honesty, just as they give to us.
