My name is Teaa Atkins, and I am a 17-year-old high school senior with big dreams and the determination to match. As the first in my family to pursue a college education, I plan to study cosmetology and business management to one day own and operate my own salon and beauty bar. I’ve already taken the initiative to start my own nail business while in high school, which has fueled my passion for entrepreneurship and beauty. With scholarships, I hope to continue my education, expand my skills, and inspire others in my community by showing that hard work and dedication can turn dreams into reality.

Crowned to Lead HBCU Scholarship
At 17 years old, I never expected to run my own business. What began as a love for nails and creativity grew into something much bigger when I started booking clients and juggling school with my work. At first, I doubted myself. I wondered if anyone would take me seriously or if I could handle the responsibilities alone. But as I worked with more clients, built my brand, and faced challenges, I realized I was stronger and more capable than I had thought.
What others might not have seen in me at first was my determination and leadership potential. Running a nail business taught me discipline, time management, and professionalism. More importantly, it showed me that leadership doesn’t just come from titles or positions; it comes from how you treat people. Every client I work with allows me to provide a service while also uplifting, listening, and inspiring. I’ve learned that a leader makes others feel valued and supported, no matter how small the setting may be.
This experience shaped my goals and my vision for the future. I now know that I want to study both cosmetology and business management in college so I can one day own and run a salon and beauty bar. My dream is to create a space where people feel confident while also helping other young people who want to succeed in the beauty industry.
Looking back, running my own business gave me more than financial independence it gave me confidence in myself. I started to see that I could set goals and achieve them, even when the odds weren’t in my favor. It showed me that I am capable and ready to lead, inspire, and build a future where my hard work can make a lasting difference.
Marcia Bick Scholarship
I am only 17, but I have already started my own nail business while also being a high school senior preparing for college. Beauty is more than just a passion for me; it is a way to build a future where I can support myself, create opportunities for others, and break generational cycles. As the first in my family to go to college, I understand that the journey will not be easy, but I am ready for it.
Growing up, I didn’t have the financial support or resources that many students take for granted. Instead of letting those struggles define me, I let them motivate me to work even harder. Starting my nail business was not about getting rich; it was about proving to myself that I could be proactive. I wanted to lay the groundwork for my future career. Every client I serve teaches me about discipline, responsibility, and the value of building lasting relationships. I know these lessons will help me when I open my own salon and beauty bar someday.
Despite the obstacles, I am determined to pursue my education and career goals. I want to attend college and earn degrees in both cosmetology and business management. I aim to combine creativity with the skills needed to run a successful business. My dream is not just to own a salon but also to create a business that helps people feel more confident. I want to inspire young people in my community to understand that with hard work and determination, they can achieve success no matter their starting point.
A scholarship or grant would not only cover my education costs but also be an investment in my future and in the future of others I hope to impact. With guidance, I can grow as a student, entrepreneur, and role model for those facing similar challenges. I believe dedicated students like me should be given opportunities like this because we show our commitment through our actions. We are focused on using our education and experiences for the greater good.
I am ready to face the challenges ahead, continue building on my progress, and seize this opportunity to fulfill my dreams. With this scholarship, I can become the first in my family to graduate from college and demonstrate what is possible when determination meets opportunity.
