From an early age, I have been deeply committed to helping others, and I have always been drawn to the medical field. My passion for healthcare was solidified through my experiences in living overseas and becoming ill, leadership roles, community service, and mentorship, where I witnessed firsthand the importance of compassionate care and advocacy. As a future nurse, I want to be on the front lines of patient care, providing both medical expertise and emotional support to those in need.
Academically, I have maintained a 3.95 GPA, excelling in my schools International Baccalaureate (IB) program focused on advanced science courses such as biology and chemistry, which have given me a strong foundation for my future studies in nursing. My dedication to excellence extends beyond the classroom—I have also been a varsity volleyball team captain, an FFA Grand Champion for raising rabbits, and an active teen member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and the THRIVE program. These experiences have shaped my resilience, leadership, and ability to work well under pressure—essential skills for a successful nurse.
I am particularly passionate about increasing access to quality healthcare in underserved communities. My goal is to specialize in either pediatrics or emergency nursing, where I can make a direct impact on patients and their families. I plan to attend an HBCU, where I will be surrounded by a community that nurtures Black excellence and prepares me to be a leader in my field.

Gregory Flowers Memorial Scholarship
I am writing to express my sincere interest in the Gregory Flowers Memorial Scholarship. I am a proud student, an athlete, and a leader who has learned the value of hard work, resilience, and the power of community. As the captain of my varsity volleyball team and a student with a 3.95 GPA (4.63 weighted), I have dedicated myself to achieving excellence both on and off the volleyball court. These experiences have shaped who I am and taught me that success is not just about individual accomplishments but also about uplifting others. With dreams of pursuing a career in medicine, I am determined to make a difference in the lives of others. A scholarship will help me turn my aspirations into reality, ensuring that I can continue to focus on my education and personal growth without financial barriers.
My greatest personal accomplishment is ranking in the top 11% of my senior class while at the same time having the courage to go through the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Very few students decided to go through the IB program, and I was able to achieve a 4.63 weighted GPA and participate in several extracurricular activities. My future is rooted in a passion for service and a desire to create change. My short-term goal is to attend Clark Atlanta University to earn a degree in biology, which will lay the foundation for my long-term aspiration of becoming a nurse and business owner. I have always been inspired by the idea of helping children and families lead healthier lives, and I want to be part of a profession where I can combine science and compassion to make a tangible impact. Beyond my career, I hope to mentor young black and brown students and athletes, encouraging them to dream big and persevere through challenges, just as I have. My vision is not just about personal success but also about building a legacy of service and inspiration for others.
A scholarship would not only provide financial support but be a lifeline that allows me to focus on my education and future goals without the constant worry of financial strain. With this assistance, I can dedicate myself fully to my studies, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work, ensuring that I am prepared to excel in college and beyond. It would also allow me to pursue internships and research opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach, further strengthening my foundation for medical school. This scholarship would not just be an investment in my education, but in the lives of the many children and families I aim to serve in my future career.
As I reflect on my journey so far, I am reminded of the challenges I have faced and the strength I have discovered in overcoming them. From late nights studying for exams to leading my volleyball team through both victories and defeats, I have learned the value of persistence, integrity, and a positive mindset. A scholarship would be an acknowledgment of the hard work I have put in and the promise of the future I am building. With your support, I can take the next step toward achieving my dreams and contributing to a brighter, healthier future for my community. Thank you for considering me as a candidate for this incredible opportunity.
FLIK Hospitality Group’s Entrepreneurial Council Scholarship
As a young Black woman enthusiastic about science, healthcare, and service, I understand the profound impact of representation in STEM and healthcare fields. Growing up in Houston with parents who have careers in the oil and gas industry, I have been immersed in healthcare, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) since birth. Throughout my life, I have witnessed both the brilliance and the barriers faced by underrepresented students, particularly girls of color who aspire to careers in STEM and medicine. My mission is to not only participate in healthcare and science fields, but also to be a catalyst for change within it over the next five years and throughout my career.
My interest in healthcare and science was ignited in middle school when I joined the FFA program and raised rabbits as a project. In the eighth grade, I won the grand champion award for raising rabbits. This achievement was due to my ability to embrace the scientific and problem-solving mindset required to help the rabbits grow at an accelerated rate. This experience planted the seeds for my current ambition: to pursue a degree in biology. I plan to leverage my biology degree to pursue further studies in science and ultimately focus on improving lives. My career goal is to bring quality care and awareness to underserved populations, especially Black and Brown communities.
Throughout high school, I have led by example both academically and athletically. As captain of my varsity volleyball team, I have had the opportunity to mentor younger players, promote mental resilience, and foster team unity. These skills translate directly into leadership in STEM fields. I also maintained a 3.95 GPA while balancing rigorous coursework in my high school’s international baccalaureate program, continued extracurricular activities, roles in service organizations, and focused on student leadership.
Beyond the classroom, I have actively volunteered in health and wellness initiatives aimed at underserved youth, including blood drives, wellness fairs, and mentorship programs. I have spoken to younger students at my school about careers in science and healthcare, encouraging them to see themselves in those fields even if no one around them has. As a member of Jack and Jill of America, I have participated in STEM-focused youth summits and service projects that prioritize equity and empowerment. As a senior in Jack and Jill of America, Inc., I have also spoken to the younger teen members about the importance of focusing on STEM. My leadership within the organization has led to several recognition awards like Teen of the Month and Teen with Outstanding Leadership.
What drives me most is my belief that adversity is not a barrier but a bridge. I have faced personal and systemic challenges that could have discouraged me from dreaming big. Instead, I have chosen to persist, to speak up, and to support others who need encouragement. I want to be the person I once needed: someone who believes in others, makes science accessible, and breaks down barriers with both compassion and conviction.
In the future, I plan to continue mentoring, launch STEM workshops for girls in underfunded schools, and advocate for inclusive healthcare practices. My path may start with biology, but my purpose is much bigger: to light the way for others and to serve as a reminder that STEM belongs to all of us.

WinnerKelly O. Memorial Nursing Scholarship
From an early age, I have felt a profound calling to care for others. This instinct evolved into a deep passion for healthcare, guiding me toward a career in nursing. I am committed to becoming a compassionate, knowledgeable, and impactful nurse, and I believe the Kelly O. Memorial Nursing scholarship will help me realize this dream.
I am a senior at Lamar High School in Houston, TX, where I have served as the captain of the varsity volleyball team and maintained a 3.95 GPA in a rigorous International Baccalaureate program. Balancing academics, athletics, and community involvement has taught me resilience, time management, and discipline. My academic success reflects my commitment to excellence and my belief in the transformative power of education. Science and health courses have captured my interest, offering a glimpse into the human body’s complexity and the essential role nurses play in healing and prevention.
As the team captain, I have acquired the skills to motivate diverse groups of individuals toward a common goal, even in the face of adversity. These experiences have taught me empathy, communication, and how to be a voice for others—traits essential for a successful nurse. My desire to enter the nursing profession was solidified by witnessing the profound impact of quality care on members of my own family. I have watched nurses serve not only as medical professionals but as emotional anchors during vulnerable moments.
Growing up as a young Black woman in diverse domestic cities such as Houston and Bakersfield, as well as international locations like Kuwait and Luanda, Angola, I have observed the health inequities that disproportionately affect communities of color. These injustices motivate me to be part of the solution. I believe in giving back to the next generation. By becoming a nurse and eventually mentoring aspiring healthcare professionals, I hope to be a role model for young people, especially young Black girls who may not always see themselves reflected in the medical field.
In addition to my academic and athletic commitments, I have actively participated in various service initiatives, including volunteering at local food banks, tutoring younger students, and engaging in community clean-up efforts. I am excited to attend a Historically Black College or University where I can pursue a degree in nursing and eventually return to Houston to serve the communities that shaped me. This scholarship would help relieve the financial burden of college and allow me to focus more fully on my studies, clinical experiences, and community involvement.
Thank you for considering my application and I am committed to utilizing my education to uplift others and create a healthier, more equitable world.
