Bio

Hello! My name is Taylor and I have a lot of interests that I'm heavily passionate about. For starters, I want to help people in the safest and best way possible for them. Whether that's with the Medical Health field with Pharmacy or even nursing. Or on a Mental Health stance, or all three! I definitely would love to have a way to incorporate each one of those in my studies; to be able to help people as young as children to a middle-aged person with handling their health on a mental aspect. Mental Health from my stance point does not get the coverage it should get, no conversation is happening to help people that have to live with distress every day. When I was younger, I see the work of people in the Criminal Justice field as either a Detective or Forensic scientist on Tv, that aspect of me is starting to awake in me as I see the faulty that people in this field already is making mistakes that are hindering people of their lives. It's sad how things like this can happen, and the lack of attention these cases get. With these interests as well as hobbies with painting, ceramics, gardening as well as just love learning in general; there's a lot that I can contribute to people around and the field that I will have a role in.

My name is Taylor, and I want to create a scholarship fund for myself; I want to be able to use funds that I’ve been able to gain to help build my education foundation. With my education, I want to be able to impact society, change institutions and systems that are way too long overdue. Currently, I live with my mother and my grandmother; my mother is a single mother but not by choice. My father was fatally killed in a different state in 2014 when I was younger. My mother was doing fine financially until 2017 when my grandmother suffered a major stroke that physically impaired her dominant side of her body. My mother had to quit her job to fully commit to nursing my grandmother back to health. This took a toll on my mother, especially financially; my mother now in 2021 since then has to pay for her medication that’s equivalent to $900 a year along with other supplies/equipment that’s necessary for her health. As a child, my dad was a heavy influence in my life; he taught things and loved me the way only a father figure can. He taught me to always achieve my dreams even if there are many obstacles in my way that could hinder them. At the time I needed him most, 11 years old, he passed away. Over time, I realized that I didn't need to have him there with me physically to know that I can achieve anything that I truly desire. I have to find that drive and desire within myself if I ever want to accomplish anything, not just academically, but as well as socially. The way I built my identity was based on what I see around me and how it will potentially affect me in the future. It's very frightening to see how black women are degraded in society today. I'm afraid that I won't advance like my counterparts based on gender and race. The field that I want to pursue is Neuroscience-Psychology. This field intends to study both the biological process of the brain and nervous system as well as the behavioral aspect of the focused domain. What inspired me to focus in this particular field are many things; from wanting to a better school for students, changing current medication practices, as well as to helping people with mental disorders. Primarily my inspiration is my grandmother, seeing how greatly affected she was by her stroke as well others like her have made an enormous influence on the way I see illnesses that can't be seen physically. People who have similar cases like hers have to live with struggles every day, which makes me want to help them even more; knowing and seeing these struggles made me understand the daily battle. Being able to change our society and even the world with my insight is my true life goal. Making that children, teenagers, and adults alike get to live in a place where the only worry they’ll have is whether or not they were able to feel fulfilled that day. My ongoing motivation for continuing my education is my little cousin. He’s ten years younger than me but we can relate to each other on numerous levels. I want to be his role model; he already sees me as his big sister, so I want him to see his big sister be able to change the world around here without giving up. It is a constant struggle to stay afloat in this age and climate, but if it’s to better humanity… it’s worth it.
