Bio

My name is Taylor Olsen and I’ve done acting for 13 years. Ever since I was a child I have loved musicals and have been in so many since then! Throughout high school I have started to branch out and find new hobbies that I have loved. I have always had a strong work ethic and I have always wanted to go to college to further my studies. I have always loved listening to music as well. My favorite artists consist of Thomas Day, Rec Hall, The runarounds, Gracie Abrams, SZA, Sabrina Carpenter, Tate Mcare, Joshua Bassett, and more. I use music as something to help calm me down as I have had anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder for a lot of my life. My goal in college is to start getting over these mental challenges that have taken me down in high school.

    Taylor Swift Fan Scholarship
When I was a child, my sister was a huge fan of Taylor Swift and constantly played her music around. Taylor swift was one of the artists that everyone in my family enjoyed so i was always listening to her music. When i was in 3rd grade, my parents took me and my sister to see her in the 1989 tour which made that my very first concert ever. Unfortunately i have not been able to see her live since then but i have stayed up to date with her new albums and concert movies. In my opinion, her eras tour has been one of her best performances yet. I love how nostalgic it was when she sang every era and she chose some of my favorite songs ever. I would constantly find myself joining different TikTok lives and doing everything i could to see which surprise songs she had each night. Being a fan of her for so long, made this tour one of the most memorable tours of all and even though it lasted over a year, i hope in the future she'll continue to do this with her older albums to keep that nostalgic feeling it gave me and her other fans.
    Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I have been a fan of Sabrina Carpenters music since 2022, but I have grown up with her through her acting career as well. When girl meets world first came out, it was a show I would constantly watch and I loved Maya (Sabrina's character) because of her personality. Ever since watching girl meets world, I always made sure to keep up on other acting projects she was in and that was when I first heard her song from teen beach movie 2. After hearing it I looked up the song and discovered she wrote more music and I became obsessed. After becoming a big fan of her music, I was fortunate enough to see her in the Short N' sweet tour and it was an amazing experience. Being a fan for this long, and seeing her perform live was one of the biggest highlights of my life. Besides just being a fan of her, I think anyone would've enjoyed the show because of how amazing the production was. The set was incredible, the dancers were so talented, and when you put it all together it truly was a fantastic show. I went with my best friend and it is still something I think about to this day. I hope as time goes on, I will be able to see her in concert once again.
    Wicked Fan Scholarship
I started doing theater when i was 6 years old, since then I've seen a ton of Broadway musicals and Wicked is one of my absolute favorites. When i was a kid, i had a lot of family issues that none of my friends dealt with and they didn't know much about that sort of stuff in general so i felt left out, just like Elphaba did. I have struggled with the feeling of being left out most of my life and Wicked helps me through that feeling. Other than always feeling left out, i enjoy wicked for the emotions it brings as well. It can be sad, serious, happy, funny, and i love it. Part of growing up is going through these different emotions and i think that Wicked portrays it super well. Beside all of these, just being able to see it on Broadway when i was a kid felt like a magical moment and i wish that every child will be able to experience it. I am very happy that they were able to turn this story into a movie because i feel like it is a very important story that everyone should be able to watch and fully understand the magic that this musical brings.
    Gene C McCombs Memorial Scholarship
Growing up, I was never too close with my family. They were always there but they were more focused on themselves or the things going on with my brothers. I struggled with mental health ever since I was 11 years old and it was always hard for me to truly fit in since no one else really struggled with this at my age. My sister always seemed like a happy person so it was my goal to be just like her. She did theater in high school which made me want to do theater too. I started doing summer camps when I was 7, and then when I started in middle school I took every theater class possible and ended up falling in love with it. When high school started I had this new found passion and I loved being able to share it with everyone else. The people I took these classes with and did these performances with soon became the family I never had. They made me feel safe and they made me feel calm. The depression and anxiety never went away but with my new family I was able to forget about it and just feel happy. When I was a child I was always shut off and kept to myself but then when I met these people I started opening up and got really good at communicating my feelings and helping other people through theirs. I don't think I would've been able to do this if it weren't for my high school theater department. In college although I don't plan to pursue theater, I will use these communication skills all throughout college with multiple different situations. One final thing I will carry with me through college is my leadership skills that I gained. I got the opportunity to be the drama club president for my senior year. Because of this, I learned how to properly handle situations and take charge. I got the opportunity to run the summer camp that I used to do when i was a child and I even got to become the role model for the under class men. As a freshman in high school I always looked up to the presidents because they were the ones who made me feel included and loved so I was very grateful to be able to do the same and hopefully make other students feel as loved as I did in this department.
