    Chris Ford Scholarship
My name is Taylor Harrison, and I am 18 years old, currently enrolled in an early college program where I take both high school and college classes simultaneously. Upon highschool graduation, I will have two years left of my undergrad degree, and I am actively seeking financial support to help fund the remainder of my education.  One of the most important values to me is giving back to my community. Over the years, I’ve been involved in several organizations that allow me to serve others, including the National Honor Society, Student Government Association, and Girl Scouts. Each of these experiences has shaped me into a compassionate and driven individual who strives to make a positive difference in the world. Despite juggling high school, college coursework, clubs, and my personal life, I’ve maintained a GPA of 4.0, which demonstrates my commitment to excellence and my ability to manage my responsibilities efficiently.  As I look ahead to my future career, I am passionate about pursuing a degree in Animal Science with the goal of becoming a veterinarian. From a young age, I’ve been drawn to animals and their well-being, and I’ve always wanted to help improve the lives of both pets and livestock. My dream is to not only provide excellent care to animals but to also positively impact the communities around me by educating pet owners, promoting animal welfare, and advancing the practice of veterinary medicine. In the long run, I hope to combine my passion for animals with a strong business plan. I aim to one day open my own veterinary clinic, where I can be my own boss and create a practice that prioritizes animal care, client satisfaction, and community outreach. By incorporating entrepreneurship into my veterinary career, I hope to innovate within the field, introducing new services, improving accessibility to care, and fostering a welcoming environment for both clients and animals. Through my career in veterinary medicine, I plan to make a positive impact not only by treating animals but also by engaging with people in meaningful ways. I believe in the power of education, and I look forward to teaching others about responsible pet ownership, animal health, and the importance of veterinary care. Furthermore, I want to inspire future generations of students to pursue careers that are rooted in service and compassion, just as I have done throughout my academic and extracurricular journey. As I continue my studies and prepare to enter adulthood, I am excited for the future and the opportunities that await. I am committed to creating a legacy of kindness, hard work, and dedication, both in my personal life and in my career. With the right resources and support, I know that I can achieve my goals and make a lasting impact on the world, one animal and one person at a time.
Overcoming Adversity - Jack Terry Memorial Scholarship
Dr. Jack Terry’s story is nothing short of inspiring. His resilience, determination, and ability to overcome unimaginable adversity teach powerful lessons about the strength of the human spirit and the importance of perseverance in the face of hardship. Jack’s journey, from losing his family in the Holocaust to building a successful career as a geological engineer and psychoanalyst, demonstrates that even in the darkest times, it is possible to rebuild and flourish. His commitment to sharing his story with others, and spreading knowledge and hope, is meaningful to me as I pursue my studies in animal science. Like Dr. Terry, I have faced challenges in my own life that have shaped me into who I am today. While my experiences are not as extreme as his, they have still taught me valuable lessons in resilience and determination. For example, I have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of cancer on my family, losing loved ones to the disease, and confronting my own health scares. These experiences forced me to face my fears, endure moments of grief and uncertainty, and navigate periods of emotional and physical pain. But they also fueled a desire to understand and contribute to solutions that can improve the lives of those affected by cancer, both professionally and through volunteerism. In many ways, Dr. Terry’s life reflects the spirit of perseverance I’ve strived to embody through my academic and personal challenges. His ability to rise above his circumstances and build a meaningful life despite immense loss resonates with my journey. Just as he overcame his past to serve and give back to society, I haven’t let my challenges impact my 4.0 GPA and I am determined to use my studies in animal science to make a positive impact, particularly in the realm of cancer research and animal-assisted therapy. Through my studies, I hope to explore the ways animals can be used to detect cancer, as well as the therapeutic roles they can play in improving the lives of cancer patients. Animals have an extraordinary ability to detect changes in human scent, and I’m fascinated by how this can be harnessed to help with early cancer detection. Moreover, animals provide invaluable emotional support, offering comfort and companionship to patients during their most difficult times. Like Dr. Terry, I believe in the power of knowledge and hope, and I aim to dedicate my studies to better understanding how animals can help both in diagnosing and providing emotional relief to cancer patients. I am most excited about the opportunity to combine my passion for animals with practical knowledge to make a significant difference, whether through improving medicinal practices, farming practices, advancing veterinary care, or contributing to wildlife efforts, either on a professional level or through community service.
    Hicks Scholarship Award
My name is Taylor Harrison, I am 18 years old, and cancer has been a terrifying and ever-present word in my life. Throughout high school, I’ve witnessed its devastating impact on my family, and these experiences have shaped my personal and academic path in profound ways. The word "cancer" used to be something I only heard about in passing, something distant, until it hit home and became intertwined with my reality. In 2022, cancer hit my family harder than ever before. My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer, and her health quickly deteriorated, ultimately leading to her passing. Being unable to understand the depth of her pain truly was heartbreaking, but hearing her struggles and seeing how the disease slowly wore her down was a painful reminder of how cancer steals so much more than just physical health. It takes pieces of the person we love, leaving a sense of helplessness and grief. Later that year, the loss was compounded when I lost my cousin, to a rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer, renal medullary carcinoma. Watching him, once a vibrant and active person, gradually lose his strength and deteriorate in a matter of months was beyond difficult. He moved slower, his spirit still intact, but his body, ravaged by cancer, betrayed him in ways I could not comprehend. At the same time, I was faced with my own health scare. I began experiencing flank pains and my doctors noticed unusual levels of protein in my urine samples, which led to a series of medical tests, blood samples, and ultrasounds. The possibility of having a condition like my mother, who has Angiomyolipoma, which is a benign form of kidney cancer, was a constant fear. Even though the tests eventually came back clear, revealing that I did not have the condition nor carry the trait for it, the fear and uncertainty lingered in my mind. The stress and emotional toll of worrying about my health, combined with the recent loss in my family, left me with a lingering anxiety every time I thought about cancer. These experiences have profoundly influenced my academic and professional aspirations, specifically my desire to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. I’ve always had a deep connection with animals, and through these experiences, I’ve realized that the unique bond between animals and humans can play a significant role in the fight against cancer. I’m majoring in animal science with the goal of understanding how animals can contribute to early cancer detection, particularly through their incredible ability to detect cancer scents, as the cases for my family were detected far too late. I’ve been fascinated by the way certain animals, such as dogs, have been able to pick up on the faintest odor changes in humans, often detecting cancer long before medical tests can confirm its presence. This ability not only offers a potential for early diagnosis but also provides a window into the ways our bodies change when cancer is present. The intersection of veterinary science, animal behavior, and cancer research represents a unique opportunity to contribute to both the understanding of cancer in animals, how it differs from humans, and how animals can play an active role in supporting human cancer patients. The pain I’ve experienced with cancer in my own family has only solidified my desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of both animals and the people they help. Through my career in veterinary medicine, I aim to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in cancer detection and animal-assisted therapy, providing a deeper understanding of cancer in both the animal and human world.
    Julius Quentin Jackson Scholarship
Throughout my high school years, I have faced the unique challenge of balancing high school courses with college-level coursework as an early college student. While this opportunity has been incredibly valuable, allowing me to take college classes free of charge, it has also come with significant personal and academic challenges. The strain of juggling both high school and college at the same time has impacted my life in ways I didn’t anticipate. As a teenager, I often feel that I have missed out on many of the experiences that most of my peers enjoy, from social events to the freedom of having a more traditional high school life. For example, many of my Friday nights are spent completing homework while usual high school students are at a football game. Mostly, I’ve been consumed by the demands of rigorous college courses and the pressure to perform academically at a level that often feels beyond my years. This experience has shaped me in many ways. It has taught me discipline, time management, and the importance of resilience in the face of overwhelming responsibilities. However, it has also come at a cost. As I approach the final two years of my college education, the reality of paying for tuition looms large. While I was fortunate to take college courses at no cost during my high school years, I now find myself in a position where I need to cover the expenses of my remaining college education. The responsibility to fund my tuition has become a significant source of stress, as I am expected to contribute to my higher education costs. I have been saving for this purpose, but the savings I’ve accumulated will be quickly depleted by rising tuition fees and the increasing financial demands of adulthood. The burden of paying for my college education while trying to maintain some level of savings for future expenses is daunting. As someone who is still navigating the transition into adulthood, I often feel as though I am facing this challenge without the resources or safety net that many of my peers have. The financial strain has made it difficult to focus solely on my education, as I am constantly worried about how I will cover the costs of tuition, books, and other essentials. This scholarship would provide a critical lifeline, helping to ease some of the financial pressure that weighs heavily on me. By covering a portion of my tuition, weighing in at around $27,000 a year, it would allow me to focus more on my studies, in animal science, and continue to build my future without constantly worrying about debt and loans. It would also allow me to continue saving for the many other expenses that come with adulthood, from housing to career-related costs. Receiving this scholarship would not only alleviate the immediate financial strain but would also provide me with the space to grow and thrive academically, ultimately helping me to reach my educational and career goals in veterinary medicine.

Community service has always been an integral part of my life and I have found great purpose in supporting those around me. From volunteering with children and families to helping elderly individuals, I am passionate about making a real difference. I approach every opportunity to serve others with dedication and care, believing that small acts of kindness can create lasting, meaningful changes in a community. As I transition to college, I plan to continue dedicating myself to service, with the goal of improving the lives of those in need while pursuing my academic and personal growth. My commitment to excellence is reflected in how I approach both my volunteer work and academic pursuits. I understand that service is about leaving a place or person better than you found it. For example, as a member of the Girl Scouts, I worked toward earning my Silver Award by creating projects that addressed specific needs in my community. These projects required me to organize and execute initiatives that directly impacted my community, including leading educational workshops for local youth and collecting school supplies for underrepresented schools in my district. Each of these projects required thorough planning, teamwork, and leadership, all of which helped me develop a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to excellence. Additionally, my involvement in the Student Government Association and the National Honor Society further shaped my approach to service. In SGA, I helped organize events that fostered school spirit, raised funds for local causes, and created a positive atmosphere for students. From coordinating fundraising efforts for local charities and planning student wellness programs to organizing events for students at my school like prom or social days, I focused on creating inclusive environments where all students could thrive. In NHS, I’ve had the opportunity to lead tutoring sessions, participate in charity drives, and support initiatives aimed at making a difference in the community. In both organizations, I have strived to exemplify integrity, collaboration, and a passion for helping others, always aiming to exceed expectations and make meaningful contributions. I’ve also been fortunate to contribute to various events and initiatives that directly support my local community. For example, I’ve worked with elementary schools to host events like Spring Flings and game nights, providing students with opportunities for fun and learning outside of the classroom. Witnessing the joy these events brought to the children reminded me of the importance of creating spaces where young people can feel safe, engaged, and part of a larger community. In addition to supporting children, I’ve spent time helping families in need through decorating homes for mothers and children in shelters during the holidays. This experience reinforced my belief that even small gestures like brightening someone’s living space can have a huge emotional impact. I also had the privilege of volunteering with elderly individuals, where I saw firsthand how a kind conversation or a simple song could lift someone's spirits. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the importance of empathy and human connection, no matter someone's age or background. As I continue to seek out volunteer opportunities, I prioritize making a difference wherever I can. I view service not just as a way to give back but as a way to grow and develop personally, and I am always eager to contribute to a cause that will help others. I know that there is always something I can do to make someone's day a little brighter or someone's burden a little lighter. I am committed to continuing my work in the community and using knowledge I gain through higher education to make an even greater impact.
    Gabriel Martin Memorial Annual Scholarship
Living with asthma and allergies has profoundly shaped my life, affecting my physical health and emotional experiences. From an early age, asthma was a significant part of my life. My mom often tells the story of her sleepless nights, watching my chest cave in during breathing treatments. The helplessness she felt during those moments has stayed with me, though I was too young to fully understand. These early struggles with breathing reminded me of how much my health could impact my daily life. As I started school, managing my asthma became an essential part of my routine. I always had to keep my asthma pump on hand, a symbol of my condition. I couldn’t run or play like the other kids because I had to be cautious not to overexert myself and trigger an asthma attack. It felt isolating to watch others enjoy activities I couldn’t fully participate in. Even simple things, like running around at recess, became a challenge, and I missed out on experiences that many of my peers took for granted. Eventually, we learned that my asthma was allergy-induced. Things like dust, ragweed, pollen, and grass didn’t just irritate my respiratory system but also made me more susceptible to symptoms like a cough or congestion. My allergies became more than just a seasonal nuisance. I had to manage my symptoms year-round, taking pills to counteract allergic reactions and prevent them from escalating into asthma attacks. I became accustomed to this routine, always aware of how my body was responding to allergens around me. I could tell when my allergies were flaring up before my symptoms became severe, as my eyes would become glossy, signaling it was time for me to take my medicine. While this routine became a normal part of my life, it didn’t come without challenges. I had to adjust my plans based on how I was feeling. If the pollen count was high, I knew I would need to stay indoors. This meant I sometimes had to miss outdoor activities, trips, and other experiences that my friends participated in. It was frustrating to prioritize my health over having fun, but I learned to be disciplined and proactive in managing my condition. Despite these challenges, my medical conditions have taught me resilience and adaptability. I’ve learned how to manage my asthma and allergies, finding ways to stay healthy without cutting my life short. I know more about my body and how to prevent an attack before it happens. This has given me a sense of responsibility for my health, knowing that maintaining my medication schedule and taking precautions when necessary are crucial. In conclusion, my conditions have profoundly impacted my life, teaching me lessons about resilience and empathy for others facing similar struggles. Despite the challenges posed by my conditions, I have never let them stop me from pursuing my childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. I’ve always had a love for animals, and the idea of caring for them has been a driving force in my life. Knowing that much of my time as a veterinarian will be spent outdoors, where allergens like pollen and grass could trigger my symptoms, I remain determined to pursue this career. Managing my asthma and allergies has strengthened my commitment to my goals, teaching me to adapt, plan ahead, and take precautions to thrive in challenging environments. I am determined to use my passion for animals and my personal resilience to overcome any obstacles in my path, proving that no matter what health challenges I face, my dream of becoming a veterinarian will not be deviated from.

I have been deeply committed to community service, seeking out opportunities to support and assist those in need. My experiences volunteering have shaped who I am and continue to inspire me as I look toward my future, both in college and beyond. I am passionate about making a tangible impact on the lives of individuals, whether they are children, families, the elderly, or, related to my field, even pets and their owners. One of the ways I have contributed to my community is by assisting local elementary schools with events such as Spring Flings, game nights, and interactive learning nights. These events provided not only entertainment but also valuable learning opportunities for the students. These experiences taught me the importance of building connections with young people and how a fun and engaging event can inspire a sense of community. Additionally, I have been involved in giving back to families in need through safe houses and homes for mothers and their children in my city. During the holidays, I have had the opportunity to help decorate residences, bringing some festive cheer to families who might not have had the means to do so themselves. The smiles on the faces of children and parents as they entered their decorated homes were priceless. It reinforced my belief that small acts of kindness can have a huge impact and providing support to vulnerable families, especially during difficult times, is important. In addition to helping families, I have had the privilege of volunteering with the elderly in my community. Many elderly people, particularly those in nursing homes or assisted living facilities, often experience loneliness, as visitors may be few and far between. I had the chance to sing Christmas carols, engage in conversations, and provide small gifts to brighten their day. These interactions meant a lot to me as It reminded me that sometimes, the simplest gestures can make a world of difference to someone who may feel isolated. Whenever I am presented with a volunteer opportunity, whether through my school or through other channels, I make it my priority to participate. Giving back to my community has become a deeply ingrained part of who I am, and I recognize that there is always something I can do to help others. Whether it’s organizing a local event, helping a family, or simply offering my time and energy, I am always ready to lend a hand when needed. Looking toward my future, I am determined to continue my commitment to volunteerism as I transition into college life. I recognize that my education can be a powerful tool for helping others, and I plan to combine my academic pursuits with service to my community. One area that I feel particularly passionate about is supporting pet owners who are struggling financially. Pets can be a source of comfort and companionship, but they also come with financial burdens, particularly for those who are less fortunate. I hope to provide resources like affordable pet food, vaccines, and basic veterinary care to ensure that people can keep their beloved pets healthy without the stress of high costs. Additionally, I want to offer resources to these pet owners, such as job opportunities or shelter assistance, to help improve their overall well-being. In conclusion, as I continue my journey into higher education, I plan to expand my volunteer efforts and continue to give back to the community in meaningful ways. I am driven by the belief that everyone, no matter their circumstances, deserves support, care, and a sense of belonging, and I am eager to contribute to creating a more compassionate world.
    Redefining Victory Scholarship

To me, success is reflected in both my personal development and my professional accomplishments, achieving a sense of fulfillment in my life that reflects hard work, determination, and resilience. On a personal level, success means creating a life where I am exhilarated and content with who I am and where I am. It is the satisfaction of knowing that I’ve worked hard to break free from the circumstances I was born into, allowing myself to grow, learn, and achieve the things I once thought were out of reach. It’s about finding balance in my life, being proud of my accomplishments, and appreciating the progress I’ve made while continuing to push myself further. "Look at that big doggie, mommy!" Those were the words I said at just two years old as I excitedly pointed to a cow in my front yard. From that moment on, my fascination with animals only grew. As a child, I always said I would be either a dentist or a veterinarian. However, as I’ve grown older, I've realized that my true passion lies with animals. I could have the best of both worlds as a veterinarian, and that's where my heart truly beats. From childhood to now, animals have always been a significant part of my life. I’ve always had a pet of some kind whether it was a fish, a parakeet bird, or a dog. I’m the person who can always be found in the pet section of any store, picking out toys or treats for my pets. I can spend hours watching veterinary TV shows, fascinated by how veterinarians care for and treat animals. The more I learned about the profession, the more I knew that becoming a veterinarian was my calling. My dedication to animals has led me to major in animal science, and I’ve already taken concrete steps toward my goal by completing a certification as a veterinary assistant. This hands-on experience only deepened my interest in animal care. I had the opportunity to learn about small animals and pocket pets, how to restrain animals safely, administer vaccines, and even insert IVs. These experiences solidified my passion for the field and gave me invaluable insights into the skills and knowledge required to be a successful veterinarian. Now, at eighteen, I can reflect on the many pets I have had throughout my life, all teaching me a new set of responsibilities. Therefore, I’m pursuing my childhood dream in an Early College program, where I am completing both my high school diploma and associate’s degree at the same time. While this journey has meant sacrificing typical high school experiences like staying with my childhood friends, participating in fun electives like cooking, or enjoying high school traditions like painting senior parking spaces, I’ve learned that every sacrifice has been worth it. Getting ahead academically has brought me one step closer to my goal of becoming a veterinarian, which keeps me motivated. Though the path hasn’t always been easy, especially transitioning from a traditional high school to an accelerated program, it has taught me the importance of discipline, focus, and resilience. I’ve had to adjust my social life and keep my circle small, but these changes have significantly strengthened my resolve to pursue my dream. I know that the skills I’m developing now, including time management and dedication, will be invaluable in my future studies and career. Looking back, I can see that my love for animals was always there, from the moment I excitedly pointed at that cow in my front yard. And now, more than ever, I know that becoming a veterinarian is my true path. I’m more determined than ever to turn my childhood dream into a reality, helping animals and making a difference in their lives just as I’ve always wanted.

My name is Taylor Harrison and I’m an eighteen year old currently attending an Early College program, where I’m completing both my high school diploma and an associate's degree at the same time. My dream has always been to become a veterinarian, and I’m committed to making that dream a reality. However, one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was transitioning from a traditional school to this accelerated program. The shift meant I had to give up a lot of the typical high school experiences, such as staying with the same friends from elementary and middle school, participating in fun electives like cooking or early childhood, painting senior parking spaces, or even hearing about typical high school drama. While it was hard to miss out on those moments, I realized that this sacrifice gave me the opportunity to get ahead of my peers academically. I’ve learned to stay focused on my studies, keep my circle small, and embrace solitude when needed. The experience taught me a lot about prioritizing my goals and finding fulfillment in the work I do, even if it means stepping away from the usual high school life. It has not always been easy, sometimes even feeling like I am missing out on not being a normal teenager, but I believe it’s worth it in the long run as I continue to move forward toward my dream of becoming a veterinarian. The biggest lesson I’ve learned through this process is the importance of discipline and resilience. By being in a more academically rigorous environment, I’ve had to learn how to manage my time effectively. Balancing college coursework with high school responsibilities has forced me to stay organized and be intentional with my time. Though it sometimes feels isolating, I know this focus will help me succeed in vet school, where time management will be even more crucial. I’ve also learned to value the few close relationships I do have. While I may not be experiencing the usual high school moments, I’ve learned to cherish the friendships that truly matter. Instead of participating in extracurriculars like sports, as my school doesn’t offer them, I’ve focused on building a foundation for my future. I’ve found comfort in studying and spending time with a small, supportive group of people who share common goals like attending college, having a career, and even some with the exact same veterinary goals as myself. Ultimately, I know that these challenges will help shape me into a strong and focused person, both in my personal life and my future veterinary career. While I may have missed out on some experiences, I’ve gained so much in terms of academic knowledge, personal growth, and perseverance. This journey has taught me that sometimes sacrifices are necessary to reach your dreams, and I’m more than willing to keep moving forward toward becoming a veterinarian.
Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
Growing up in a blended family has shaped who I am today and continues to influence my future goals. With two older brothers from a previous marriage and one that I share both parents with, I’ve had the chance to witness different life paths and choices. Although my two oldest brothers didn’t attend college, their life experiences taught me valuable lessons about perseverance and resilience. Watching one overcome poor life decisions and eventually both of them building their families and achieving their goals has pushed me to set higher standards for myself. Therefore, I’m determined to take a different route by pursuing higher education. My parents, coming from different educational backgrounds with one having attended college and the other not, have always ensured that regardless of our individual paths, we had their full support. Their unconditional belief in our potential and their commitment to supporting us financially and emotionally has had a profound impact on my life. Despite their differing experiences with education, they’ve always shown me that success doesn’t follow one set path but instead what matters is the dedication and willingness to work hard. This support has allowed me to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian, with their financial and emotional backing enabling me to follow that path confidently. This upbringing has made me incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and has helped me realize that not every student is given the same chance. Many people face challenges beyond their control, such as a lack of financial resources or family support. This understanding has inspired me to use my future career and talents to help those who might not have the same advantages. As I prepare for college, I’m motivated to pursue a degree in animal science and ultimately enter the field of veterinary medicine. In the future, I hope to give back by using my skills to care for animals and contribute to communities in need. I’d love to work with animal shelters, provide affordable care to families who might not be able to afford it and be able to provide veterinary care to people who seek emotional support from their animals that they may not get from family or friends. Ultimately, my upbringing in a blended family with parents who supported me in every way possible has shaped my understanding of opportunity. It has motivated me to use my success to help others who may not have had the same advantages. Whether through veterinary visits or personal interactions, I know I can make a positive difference in both the lives of animals and the people who care for them.

Over the years, I have become determined to learn more about animal biology and welfare to help accelerate myself in my future in the veterinary field. Therefore, I have chosen to study Animal Science with hopes to become a Veterinarian in a few years. As far as I can remember, animals have always been a constant presence in my life, from the fish in my childhood aquarium to the parakeet birds that my brother and I had, and most notably, my dog, Khloe, who has been my loyal companion throughout the most impactful and influential years of my life. I’ve always felt a unique sense of comfort and completeness with animals around me, their quiet companionship offering me a kind of peace that nothing else could. However, it wasn’t until I faced the heartbreaking losses of my grandmother, aunt, and cousin, within consecutive years, that I fully understood just how deep that a bond with animals could go. During that time of grief and emotional turmoil, my dog was always there by my side to offer her unwavering loyalty and love. Her presence provided me with a sense of calm and security when everything else seemed to be falling apart. I realized that animals offer a very special bond that’s pure and unconditionally supportive. This experience profoundly shaped my desire to ensure that animals, even beyond dogs, are treated with the care and respect they deserve. They give us so much of themselves by offering companionship, comfort, and unconditional love, and I believe it’s important to return that loyalty by ensuring they are healthy, well-cared for, and able to live the long life that they deserve. I’ve also taken up a certification as a Veterinary Assistant, giving me the opportunity to work with giving injections, restraining animals, and shadowing. This is why I’ve decided to pursue animal science because I want to make a profound difference in the lives of animals and their owners, just as they’ve done for me and others during some of the toughest moments. What excites me most about animal science is the opportunity to combine my passion for animals with practical knowledge to make a significant difference, whether through improving farming practices, advancing veterinary care, or contributing to wildlife efforts.

In 2022, a shadow of fear fell over my life when I began experiencing alarming health issues. What felt like constant flank pains in my back for weeks landed me at the doctor. After several samples, it was found that I had an overabundance of protein in my urine. This seemingly small detail spiraled into a whirlwind of anxiety as I confronted the possibility of inheriting my mother's kidney condition, Angiomyolipoma. The very name sent shivers down my spine, conjuring images of her difficult journey with tumors, medications, and the constant threat of complications. The weeks that followed were a blur of medical appointments like blood work, ultrasounds, urine samples, and consultations with kidney specialists whose words echoed with a clinical detachment that did little to soothe my growing dread. Each test felt like a roll of the dice, each waiting period an eternity. The fear of facing the same struggles as my mother, the prospect of a life tethered to medication and medical interventions, weighed heavily on my heart. In the midst of this uncertainty, I found myself turning to the anchor of my life, my faith in God. It was in the quiet moments, during sleepless nights and anxious commutes, that I sought comfort in praying to my God. I poured out my fears and anxieties, laying them at his feet, trusting in his power that was much greater than myself. I prayed for healing, for strength, and for the wisdom to navigate whatever path lay ahead. My faith was a steady hand that held me up during this time. It reminded me that I wasn't alone, that even in the darkest times, God is just a prayer away, all I had to do was talk to him. As the weeks turned into months, my faith became a beam of light, guiding me through my uncertainty. It wasn't just about praying for a specific outcome. Instead, it was about surrendering to God's will, trusting that even if the path ahead was difficult, I wouldn't have to walk it alone. Thankfully, genetic testing revealed that I didn’t carry the trait for the same condition as my mother, solidifying it wouldn’t be an issue in the future. Additionally, I was given a diagnosis for the condition I did have and was overjoyed to know it wouldn’t have lasting consequences on my life. I felt an immense amount of relief, which left me both humbled and grateful. The experience, though terrifying, became a powerful testament to the strength I found in my faith. It taught me that even in the face of daunting challenges, faith can be a lifeline, a source of unwavering hope and resilience. Looking back, I realize that my kidney scare was a test, not just of my physical health, but of my faith. Through God's grace, I emerged stronger, more resilient, and more deeply rooted in the unwavering love that sustains me.
