My journey has been one of resilience, determination, and a deep passion for education. In 2021, I made the bold decision to move to America with the hope of saving up for my education in South Africa. For two years, I served as an au pair for an exceptionally wealthy family. Little did I know that while I was immersed in teaching and loving their children, my personal belongings were being rifled through by their mother. Despite warning signs, I persisted, driven by the prospect of an education change. As my au pair contract neared its end, the family proposed supporting my education in exchange for staying with their children. My dreams seemed to be coming true. After a year of emotional abuse, I experienced a traumatic episode and realized I needed to prioritize my well-being over financial support. Packing my belongings in trash bags and finding myself in need of covering tuition as an international student. The financial burden became overwhelming, pushing me to continue my education through hardships rather than returning home. In June 2023, with only $244 in my bank account, I faced the challenge of saving my degree. While applying for scholarships, I discovered the NLU Honor Roll Scholarship. Sharing my story with a teacher, I received a small scholarship, the chance to retake classes, and a positive trajectory for my GPA. Education holds paramount importance in my life, and my dream is to become a teacher, making a positive impact through teaching. This aspiration is not just personal but also a commitment to fostering change. Despite facing obstacles, I am determined to overcome them and fulfill my goals. I took a leap of faith, giving up a free college education but trusting in my determination and hard work. This year taught me the importance of asking for help and sharing my story. I've learned that reaching out is a strength, not a weakness. My goal is to help children become extraordinary and create a positive school environment for them. Completing my teaching degree at National Louis University is my ultimate goal. It's a place where I've grown to love my university and admire the dedicated professors who inspire me Specifically, I want to become a special education teacher, contributing to the growth of children. Z-NEF Scholarship assistance would be a significant financial relief, enabling me to continue my education and work towards my dream. The scholarship not only supports my immediate tuition needs but also acts as a crucial stepping stone towards my future contributions to society through education. It serves as a bridge that keeps me on the trajectory of my educational and professional pursuits, preventing the potential disruption of having to move back to South Africa and start all over again. i'm a dedicated and hardworking person, determined to seize any opportunity to achieve my academic goals. The financial assistance from this scholarship would not go to waste, and I'm confident in making excellent use of it to further my education at NLU. I am that woman, the one who has inspired me to do better. sometimes the person who is your hero needs to be you.

if someone had to ask me what my biggest goal in life was I would say to get my degree and become a teacher. it seems simple, for a lot of people they have the utter privilege to go to college. Their parents basically hand them the rules of life and help them prosper, but not my parents. My parents threw me into the world at the age of 19 like a fish in a sea of hungry sharks. no help, no guidance, no support. I love my parents but they did nothing to help me succeed in life. I am 26 years old and trying to get my college degree. That dream was so close, I could almost touch it, I could almost see the success waiting for me. But then money came in the way and now I am writing my heart out to try and get some sort of finance to be able to try and be like the person next to me whose parents are forcing them to go to college and they don't even want to be here. I wish I could scream. so loud and so desperate. " I will take your place!" I want it! I want to be here and study but no one will give it to me the way it got given to you. How does the 26-year-old who has been working her entire adult life for this dream, how do I get it? I am all alone with the biggest desire to study and change the world, I just need someone to give me a chance. In the same way, parents give their children a chance, I need that. I ache for that. Why teaching? What will I do with my degree? Individuals, societies, and the entire globe are shaped through education, which is a transforming force. Tell something about yourself?” It could be one of the toughest questions when asked impulsively. However, people who like sharing their achievements and personal life with others may find it another opportunity to reveal their unique traits. But with me, the case is quite the opposite. Talking about myself has never been my thing. Yet, I would still try to describe myself in the best way I can. I would like to start with my background and then move to how I am as a student and then how I am inside and how the world sees me. The first thing that I would like to write to introduce myself is that I am a South African-born female trying to leave a positive mark in the world. In an effort to do so, I have been continuously changing qualitatively. Being a first-generation student raised by an alcoholic father and a narcissistic mother, I have had quite a rough childhood. Giving up on my aspirations and wishes was a normal part of my life. Living with limited luxuries and growing up with divorced parents and siblings of all sorts. I know what it is like not to have someone to hear you out when you come back home after a terrible day at school. Hence, I always try to be an ear to my friends and make them feel better. But with this being said i learn from what i see, rather than just taking it in and accepting my terrible childhood i will do everything in my power to not be like them. I want to be better, do better. Just because my parents refuse to help me with school it does not mean I shouldn’t be given the chance. However, I never let my financial constraints and not-so-easy family life get in the way of my academic goals. On the contrary, I have always been keen to learn new things and achieve good grades. As a result, I successfully managed to get into a college in the States. Me? The little South African? It was finally in m hands. However recently i have been put into a position where i need to pay for m education all on my own. In this way, I am like Malgorzata. I have been faced with a challenge and i am trying everything in my power to be able to continue my studies.
