Bio

My entire life I have been pressed with challenges, but I have never failed to overcome them. In the future, I would love to get my doctorate. I understand this is an ambition, but it is a goal I have. I plan to continue my volunteer work, as I greatly enjoy helping others. This is something I will never stop doing. My life challenges have brought me at least enough to have a passion for helping others and reaching for my goal before it is too late. Life is too short, don't waste it.

My name is Taylor Doyle-LeBouf. I am a current undergraduate student at the University of New Haven. My educational aspirations include getting a master's in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Chemical Engineering. I enjoy spending most of my free time, outside of academics, volunteering, reading, and with my family. I will always be someone who will put my academics first, however now while being in college my academics can be a way to support my family in the future. My family is and will always be very important to who I am, as they have done so much for me. My family has been supportive of all of my goals, even if it means that they have to put my ambitions over their own. My mother is someone who has always done her very best for me, but that does not mean that she has not struggled along the way. She has devoted herself to giving me all that I can dream of, but she's also been doing so on her own. This is something I could never repay her for, but also something that has made college a constant struggle to afford. Her struggles are a part of the reason I have decided to continue to challenge myself in the future while pursuing Engineering. Biomedical Engineering will be a vast career, however, I want to take the challenges that I have faced in my medical past and prevent those for others in the future. I will be straight and say that this scholarship could be what allows me to stay in school. It is not a secret that college is not very affordable or that many struggle with this issue, however, I confidently say that this scholarship would be used to better the world. I plan to give back everything that is given to me, once I have "made it" in life. I have always been one to pay it forward, but exacerbating this idea by helping others is something I plan to do in the future. I would love to take relatively the amount of money that I receive and pay it forward whenever I am financially able to. With me being who I am, which is someone who is very passionate about giving back and who has faced many struggles in her life, I will use this scholarship to change others' lives, because the opportunity it will give me will change my life.

I am on in twenty-two thousand. A statement that will not make much sense without context, but definitely one that has defined who I am. This powerful statement is the ultimate example of how one event can drastically change your life. The statement "I am one in twenty-two thousand" means that I have had life-changing medical problems, but I have turned that into a passion for helping others. I have a genetic condition known as Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP), which has caused me to lose my large intestine, but also realize that I can use the drive that it has given me to help others. Before my diagnosis, I always enjoyed helping others. It was something that I learned from a young age. I have always been one to help those less fortunate, however, this altered when I was diagnosed. After my diagnosis, I knew what it was like to be less fortunate, so ever since I have done everything possible to help others. This is everything from stopping at lemonade stands to going on mission trips. Although these two ends may not seem equal, the impact both of these situations have had on my life is the same. My volunteer experience includes four mission trips, teaching CCD, tutoring, and student government work within my high school. I have learned through all of this, that volunteering makes me feel helpful. I have a passion for helping others. My mission trips have shown me that no matter what background someone comes from, everyone just wants to be seen. This is something I know well, as FAP has changed my life's course in ways where I just need it to be acknowledged. I plan to continue this in my career. I am currently an undergraduate student studying Biomedical Engineering. These things may not seem like they correlate, but with my background and joy for volunteering as well as the medical complications I have experienced, I want to make those that are in similar situations seen. One in twenty thousand may not seem that drastic, but when you think about it it is actually a vast group of people who go unseen. I want to use what I have learned through volunteering, that feeling that brings me joy, to help others. I plan to use my degree to solve specific stories. I want to solve problems that are personal to someone. These may be problems that don't seem important to most, but for one unseen person, they are life-changing. I want to see the joy that I have seen on other people's faces while volunteering for those that I help in the future. This is something that volunteering has given me and no one else can take away.
