My journey with mental health has not followed the traditional path often associated with substance abuse or clinical diagnoses, but it has been deeply shaped by my personal battle with acne. What may seem like a surface-level issue became something that affected my confidence, emotional well-being, and how I viewed myself every day. I began struggling with acne at a time in my life when self-image felt especially important. Over time, it became more severe, and I found myself constantly worrying about how others perceived me. I avoided pictures, social situations, and even simple interactions because I felt insecure. Looking in the mirror became discouraging rather than routine. This ongoing struggle took a toll on my mental health, leading to feelings of frustration, embarrassment, and isolation. Although I have not personally struggled with substance abuse, I understand how mental health challenges can push individuals toward unhealthy coping mechanisms. In my case, I had to consciously choose healthier ways to cope with what I was feeling. Instead of turning to negative habits, I focused on building discipline and self-care routines. Starting treatment, including committing to a medication plan, required consistency and patience. There were times I wanted to give up, especially when results were slow or when I experienced setbacks, but I pushed through. Through this experience, I have grown tremendously. I’ve learned that confidence is not just about appearance but about resilience and self-acceptance. I developed a stronger sense of discipline by sticking to my skincare routine, attending appointments, and making better lifestyle choices, including improving my diet and staying active. I also learned how to be kinder to myself. Instead of criticizing my reflection, I began focusing on progress rather than perfection. This journey has also shaped my educational and career goals. I am pursuing a path in healthcare, where I hope to make a difference in people’s lives, not just physically but emotionally as well. My experience has given me a deeper sense of empathy. I understand what it feels like to struggle with something that others may overlook or minimize. As a future healthcare professional, I want to provide compassionate care and remind patients that their concerns are valid, no matter how big or small they may seem. Moving forward, I have a clear plan to continue managing my mental and emotional well-being. I will maintain the healthy habits I’ve built, including staying consistent with treatment, practicing self-care, and prioritizing both physical and mental health. I also plan to continue exercising, eating balanced meals, and surrounding myself with supportive people who uplift me. Most importantly, I will continue working on my self-confidence and reminding myself that my worth is not defined by my appearance. In conclusion, my battle with acne has been more than a physical challenge, it has been a journey of personal growth, resilience, and self-discovery. It has taught me discipline, patience, and empathy, all of which will guide me in my future career and life. While the journey has not been easy, it has made me stronger, and I am committed to continuing my growth and using my experiences to help others.

When I think about why I want to pursue nursing, my grandparents immediately come to mind. Growing up, I spent a lot of time with them, helping with daily tasks, keeping track of medications, preparing meals, and simply sitting and listening to their stories. Those moments were more than acts of care they were lessons in patience, compassion, and the profound impact that emotional support can have on someone’s life. Helping them made me realize how meaningful it is to provide comfort and dignity to people during vulnerable times, and it inspired my dream of becoming a travel geriatric nurse. My professional goal immediately after graduation is to begin working as a travel nurse specializing in geriatric care. I want to serve older adults across different communities, learning from each environment while providing compassionate care that addresses both their medical and emotional needs. Ten years from now, I envision myself as a seasoned nurse who not only delivers high-quality care but also mentors younger nurses and students entering the field. I hope to inspire others to approach nursing with empathy and resilience, creating a positive influence in both patients’ lives and the professional community. Community service has been a significant part of my life. I have volunteered by mentoring younger students, helping them navigate school challenges, set goals, and build confidence. I have also cared for elderly family members beyond my grandparents, assisting with daily routines and providing emotional support. These experiences strengthened my sense of responsibility, empathy, and the importance of showing up for others, reinforcing my desire to make nursing not just a career, but a lifelong calling. Financial need is a reality I face as I pursue higher education. The costs of tuition, textbooks, and living expenses are significant, and receiving this scholarship would help relieve the financial pressure so I can focus fully on my studies and professional development. It would allow me to invest in the training and experiences I need to become the nurse I aspire to be one who makes a tangible difference in the lives of patients and communities I serve. Ultimately, my passion for nursing stems from love, service, and a desire to make a positive impact. The lessons I learned caring for my grandparents patience, empathy, and the importance of connection shape every aspect of my vision for the future. This scholarship would not only support my education but also empower me to turn that vision into reality, creating a career defined by compassion, growth, and meaningful service.

My passion for nursing comes from a deeply personal place: my love for my grandparents. Growing up, I spent countless hours with them, watching how age and health challenges could slowly change their lives. I loved helping them with everyday tasks preparing meals, keeping track of medications, or simply sitting with them and listening to their stories. Those moments were more than chores; they were opportunities to show care, respect, and love. I realized early on that providing support and comfort during these vulnerable times was not only rewarding but also profoundly meaningful. Seeing my grandparents navigate health challenges inspired me to consider a career where I could make a similar impact for others. Nursing, and specifically geriatric care, allows me to combine my compassion with tangible skills to improve the lives of older adults. I love that nurses not only provide medical care but also offer emotional support and companionship. The thought that I could ease someone’s pain, bring comfort during a difficult day, or help them maintain dignity in the face of health challenges excites me. I want to be the person who brightens someone’s day simply by being present and attentive, just as I tried to do for my grandparents. I am particularly drawn to the idea of becoming a travel geriatric nurse because it will allow me to reach and serve a variety of communities. Every patient has a unique story, and traveling will give me the opportunity to learn from each person while adapting to different healthcare settings. I hope to bring the same level of compassion and patience I showed my grandparents to every individual I care for, creating an environment where patients feel seen, valued, and supported. Throughout my career, I aim to make a meaningful difference in both the physical and emotional well-being of my patients. I want to advocate for the needs of older adults, provide comfort during vulnerable moments, and ensure that every person I care for feels respected and understood. My ultimate goal is to leave a lasting impact on the lives of my patients, helping them navigate their health challenges with dignity and compassion. My love for my grandparents taught me that nursing is not just about medical knowledge it’s about connecting with people on a human level and offering comfort when it is most needed. That understanding has shaped my vision for the future and strengthened my commitment to this career path. By pursuing nursing, I am following my heart, honoring the lessons I learned from my grandparents, and dedicating my life to making a positive impact on those who need it most.

I want to attend college because I see it as more than just the next step in my education it is my opportunity to build a life that reflects my goals, values, and purpose. Growing up, I’ve learned that success is not simply given; it is created through discipline, persistence, and the willingness to keep going even when things feel uncertain. College represents a fresh start for me, a chance to fully invest in myself and work toward becoming a travel geriatric nurse, a career that combines my passion for helping others with my desire to grow and explore new environments. My interest in nursing, specifically geriatric care, comes from a genuine desire to support people during some of the most vulnerable stages of their lives. I want to be someone who not only provides medical care but also offers patience, understanding, and comfort. The idea of traveling and working in different healthcare settings excites me because it will allow me to expand my knowledge, adapt to new challenges, and make a meaningful impact in diverse communities. College is the foundation that will prepare me for this path and give me the skills and experiences I need to succeed. However, my journey toward this goal has not been without obstacles. There have been times when I felt emotionally overwhelmed and limited in my experiences, especially as a teenager trying to balance responsibilities, expectations, and personal struggles. I often felt like I was not able to fully enjoy life the way others around me seemed to, which made it difficult to stay motivated at times. There were moments when I questioned myself and my ability to reach my goals. Despite this, I chose not to let those feelings define me. Instead, I leaned into my faith and my personal values, which helped me develop resilience and self-discipline. I learned how to push through difficult moments, even when I did not feel my best. Rather than giving up, I continued to show up for myself academically, mentally, and emotionally. These challenges forced me to grow stronger and more focused, teaching me that setbacks do not determine my future unless I allow them to. Overcoming these obstacles has shaped my mindset and strengthened my determination to attend college. I now approach my goals with a clearer sense of purpose and confidence. I understand that success requires effort, consistency, and the ability to adapt, and I am prepared to put in that work. Attending college is important to me because it represents growth, independence, and opportunity. It is my chance to take everything I have learned from my experiences and turn it into something meaningful. I am not just pursuing a degree I am pursuing a future where I can make a difference in the lives of others while continuing to grow into the best version of myself.

There was a time in my life when I felt overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unsure of my direction. As a teenager, I struggled with feeling limited in my experiences and disconnected from the life I imagined for myself. It often felt like I was watching others enjoy their lives freely while I was stuck trying to manage my responsibilities, emotions, and expectations. Over time, that mindset began to affect my motivation and how I saw myself. I started to feel discouraged and uncertain about my future. One Sunday, I went to church carrying all of that with me. I didn’t expect anything to change I just showed up like I usually did. However, that service ended up shifting my entire perspective. The message that day was about trusting God’s timing and understanding that delays in life do not mean denial. The speaker talked about how sometimes we go through seasons that feel uncomfortable or unfair, not to hold us back, but to prepare us for something greater. That message stayed with me because it felt personal. For the first time in a while, I felt seen and understood. In that moment, I realized I had been focusing so much on what I felt I was missing that I wasn’t recognizing the growth happening within me. I began to understand that my challenges were not setbacks, but part of my development. I left that service feeling lighter, but more importantly, more determined to change my mindset. I made the decision to stop letting my circumstances define me and instead focus on who I was becoming. From that point forward, I leaned into my faith and personal values especially perseverance, self-discipline, and resilience. Even on days when I felt unmotivated or emotionally exhausted, I made a commitment to keep going. I learned that strength is not about having everything figured out, but about continuing to move forward even when things feel uncertain. That experience helped me build confidence in myself and gave me a stronger sense of purpose. This growth has directly influenced my future goals, particularly my desire to become a travel geriatric nurse. I want to be someone who brings comfort, patience, and compassion to people during vulnerable times in their lives. Just as that church service reminded me that I was not alone and that my struggles had meaning, I want my patients to feel seen, valued, and cared for. I believe that nursing is not only about providing physical care, but also emotional support and human connection. My faith and personal experiences have shaped me into someone who understands the importance of resilience and compassion. As I move forward, I plan to carry these lessons with me, using them to guide both my career and the way I impact others. What once felt like a difficult season in my life ultimately became a defining moment that strengthened my character and clarified my purpose.
