My name is Taylor Brazile, I am currently 19 years old and I'm from Houston, TX. I graduated from the Village Private School in Houston with all A's for my last year of high school. During a current world pandemic, I am currently attending The University of Texas at San Antonio with a major in Medical Humanities and a concentration in Pre-Med.
In order to prepare myself for the medical path that I wish to take I am in a student medical volunteer group for those who wish to take on a field in medicine outside of my school that helps to encourage and prepare students for their chosen path. This group gives opportunities for internships and showing of actual doctors within a clinic or hospital.
I'd like to take a path that would lead me to become an OBGYN. Ever since I was young being a doctor was all I ever wanted to be. I enjoy spending my time helping people with whatever they need because I believe that giving and doing good will return good karma. In my future career in medicine, I hope to relieve people of going through the troubles of having children as well as making mothers comfortable while having their children.
Being able to establish long term or short term relationships with my patients helps to increase my passion for being a doctor. I always find it interesting to know all about a patient's history so that I know what I would be dealing with as well as what I would need to do in order to leave my patient happy and healthy while they are under my care.
My passion for becoming an OBGYN started a little over four years ago when I lost my aunt to childbirth. Her nor her baby survived and the doctors on duty weren't able to explain why. I want to be able to help women like my aunt survive through their childbirth. Another reason why I chose to be an OBGYN is that I love being able to witness the beauty of bringing in new life. My parents taught me that if I'm going to have a career in something it should be something that I love doing and that'll bring me joy. Lastly, I would love to become an OBGYN because there is a need for more OBGYN doctors; more importantly African American OBGYN doctors. There have been a lot of instances where African American women die in childbirth. I want to be one of the doctors that find out why this happens to African American women including women of different race and ethnicities.
I feel like it is my duty as an African American to give back to fellow African Americans as well as women of other ethnicities. The sole purpose for wanting to become a doctor to me is to help do whatever I can to ensure that I'm decreasing the mortality rate for women; especially those of minorities. Not only will my help relieve the pain of my patients but will also help to begin ending the childbirth mortality rate.
