Aloha! I was born and raised on the island of Oahu and I will soon be leaving the rock in January where I will attend the University of St Augustine for Health Sciences (San Marcos). My program consists of two grueling years to achieve the prestigious degree: Masters of Occupational Therapy (MOT).
Occupational Therapy has helped my friends & family overcome obstacles in the past and I strive to utilize my obtained knowledge and experience to benefit those in need.
Aside from academics, I participated in baseball, judo, and wrestling throughout my life. I achieved multiple local, state, and national titles in the sport of judo and wrestling. Also a professional debut for Fight2Win promotions. Throughout my 15 years of competitive athletics, I have hung up my gear and focused on the future generation. I can be found coaching kids judo and wrestling in my free time which includes sharpening skills/techniques, and life development as well.
Volunteering has been a highlight throughout my life as I have experience in advocation in March Against Methanol, volunteering at Wahiawa Physical Therapy, Sprouts Therapy, Health Hands Hawaii, and Bishop Museum PCMB Laboratory. I look forward to more opportunities to give back to the community which once had given so much to me.
In steps toward becoming an occupational therapist, I currently work as a Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT) at Aloha ABA which helps kids diagnosed with autism.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at Taylerotsuka808@gmail.com. Mahalo!

Originally, I switched my major from Sociology to Occupational Therapy because of the money and job opportunities (very shallow, I know). This had all changed when my high school wrestling coach suffered from an ischemic stroke in his right side of his brain. His whole left side of his body became practically paralyzed and no longer to do what he had loved. Doctors had predicted his conditions would ultimately be fatal in the days to come.
Ultimately, against all odds, my coach awoke and attended rehabilitation services which allowed for him to walk unassisted today. Occupational Therapists serviced him and aided in the recovery of his fine motor skills and ability to complete activities of daily living. The results were phenomenal! Witnessing his progress throughout the weeks not only influenced me to never give up under any circumstance, but motivated me to pursue the career that once changed his life. It was the first time I had the privilege to observe an OT in action and I felt as if I found my true passion.
During this experience, I had thought of ways I (a regular college student) could help a stroke victim like my beloved coach. How could I be any sort of aid other than wishful thinking. Everything I had witnessed had persuaded me to pursue Occupational Therapy. Although I understand that by the time I become a certified Occupational Therapist, I wouldn't be able to help my coach as I would've liked to. Instead, I will utilize the future skills, knowledge and experience I will soon obtain and provide quality treatments to those in need. Not only completing the job, but to complete it with passion and excellence. Be someone to alleviate the pain and give back to the community that had once given to me. And maybe one day, influence a young, hopeful individual to do the same.
Diversity is such an interesting aspect to discuss. Where I am from, diversity was everything. Growing in Hawai'i taught you the sole definition of diversity. Hawai'i isn't called the "melting pot" for nothing. Every classroom had kids representing almost every racial background there is. It was extraordinary and such a blessing to have experienced this throughout my years in public education. I was privileged to cooperate and befriend so many people from different backgrounds throughout my life. We were able to disregard our differences and enjoy life with each other. That's something the world today is unfortunately unable to do. But here in Hawai'i, we do it on a daily basis.
Ms. Susy’s Disney Character Scholarship
Have you ever watched the movie Mulan where the brave young girl takes the place of her sickly father and denies all odds and saves all of China? Cool, but that also means you meet Yao, aka the backbone and star of the movie Mulan. If you don't know who Yao is, think of the three stooges of the Mulan movie and picture the tall sumo sized man. So giant, yet so peaceful.
I'll tell you why Yao is my favorite Disney character. First of, his persona in the movie was the laid back and the kindest of the pack. He accepted Mulan and supported her throughout her journey. His optimistic mindset helped his friends through the grueling journey of endless training and walking! His verse in "A Girl Worth Fighting For" basically said he doesn't care about the looks or what type of clothes a woman wears. It all depends on what she cooks like! How can a character get anymore wholesome than that! I resonate to that as I am a huge food fan.
This backs up my claim of why Yao is the best Disney character because in the timed period Mulan was based on (400-600 AD), woman beauty was emphasized to the max. They had to be skinny, dress a certain way and act a certain way. This ideology is reinforced when Mulan was getting prepared to showcase herself for future partner. After her tragic accident during her make up lady, no man would want Mulan. But Yao would.
In the history of Disney movies, there has been many characters who've stolen the hearts of viewers all around the world. None have come close to my man Yao. Yao is the kindest and gentlest soul. Even though Mulan was the hero of China, Yao was the hero of humanity.

Bold Science Matters Scholarship
The most fascinating scientific discovery has to be the internet. Who would have ever thought that strangers from all over the world could be linked through something like the internet. We've evolved from throwing letters in a bottle and trusting pigeons with important penmanship messages to simply pressing buttons on a keyboard to communicate with others. The modern technology would seem fiction to a man living in the 1600's. The internet has supplied humans with the ability to search answers to nearly every and any question posed to mankind. As a member of the Generation Z community, I have experienced the power of the internet first hand. With a push of a button, I could contact a person thousands of miles away. I could pay my bills or groceries with a scan of a barcode. I could do most things a human could think of. It is absolutely amazing to brainstorm the scientific discoveries throughout the years and it is mind bobbling to think that we've only just begun. The internet will propel young scholars to be more educated and exposed to more outlets of education. The internet serves as a highway filled with endless possibilities to choose from. The power is in the hands of the user. As a wise man once said, "with great power comes great responsibility". It is true. The way you utilize the internet matters. It is difficult to think of another discover which has enabled the human population as much as the internet has. I believe this is forever the most useful and unique scientific discovery ever.
