My name is Tatianna Pointer and I am currently a senior at Parkview magnet high school. I plan to major in social work for rehabilitation and vocal music while minoring in American Sign Language. I have not decided on which college I am attending but my top three choices are University of Arkansas Fayetteville, University of Central Arkansas, and Jackson State University. I have been a part of a choir program for multiple years and I have also sang in a church choir in the past. This scholarship will help me pursue my major in music as well as social work and further my goals to bring music into therapy. Children all around the world have dreams. Dreams of what they want to be as an adult, dreams of how they want to live, dreams of being happy. These dreams grow into goals. For the most part dreams are unreachable without goals. Goals build character in the way that it shows how much the dream is wanted and how hard a person is willing to work, which reflects on their work ethics. When I was younger my dreams were to be a veterinarian but as I got older my dreams changed turning into hopes of becoming a therapist but still participating in music. Ten years from now I hope to be working at a rehabilitation center where I can not only be helping people in need but making therapy more musical. Rehabilitation therapy is an extremely needed area for those that seek help and even those who fight it because nobody should be forced to live a life based on one mistake. The drug rate in Little Rock AR alone was 3.93% in the last month. Music has always been a part of my life and allowed me to fight through my battles when I could not do it by myself. My plan is to bring my knowledge of music to my occupation in hopes that music can help others the way it helped me. If I am awarded this scholarship I believe that I will properly get the education I need to pursue my goals. The scholarship can give me the opportunity to grow my understanding of the mind as well as social behaviors. Not only will this scholarship help my musical knowledge but most importantly it will allow me to help others that are less fortunate in more creative and effective ways. I believe that people everywhere deserve the same opportunity that has been given to others, especially when society has turned their back on them. This scholarship will definitely help my goal become a reality.

Children all around the world have dreams. Dreams of what they want to be as an adult, dreams of how they want to live, dreams of being happy in general. The most common dreams are the performing arts fields such as singing, acting, or dancing, also doctors or professional athletes. These dreams grow into goals. For the most part dreams are unreachable without goals. Goals build character in the way that it shows how much the dream is wanted and how hard a person is willing to work, which reflects on their work ethics. When I was younger my dreams were to be a singer, then a veterinarian but as I got older my dreams changed turning into hopes of becoming an elementary teacher or a therapist. When I used to work with kids I enjoyed helping a generation younger than me and knowing that what I say and do impacts them heavily made me really reflect on how I am as a person. I have decided what I would like to do after college, that being a therapist for people in rehab, I believe that working with children has given me the tools to work with recovering addicts. Ten years from now I hope to be working at a rehabilitation center where I can truly help the world become a better place in my own way. Although teachers have an important job because they are shaping the future minds of the world, adults are left to fend for themselves. With my goal I wish to be able to help those individuals. The drug rate in Little Rock AR alone was 3.93% in the last month, which can lead to job loss, homelessness, and in most cases death. Seeing people becoming addicted to drugs right in front of me is the main reason I want to work in rehabilitation. Everyone deserves a second chance especially when they are at their lowest. I plan to live in a city because there are more practices available than in the country. After some time of working in a rehab center and learning the community my goal is to open my own rehab center for substance and alcohol abuse in an underappreciated city or town. California has the biggest rehabilitation center which allows for more people to get the help they need. Unlike California, places like Canada have a small rehab center or even none at all forcing people to live with their addictions on their own.

This will let me pursue my dreams and make them a reality. So many people are struggling with substance abuse, even in my own family where I have had a close aunt pass away due to drugs. I have also had uncle try to overdose due to depression. If I could help just one person get better my goal will have been achieved.
