I am an active-duty soldier serving as a Patriot System Repairer, where I troubleshoot and repair radars, launchers, engagement control stations, and fiber-optic cabling. My MOS has taught me problem-solving, mental and physical dexterity, clear communication, and meticulous attention to detail. I am pursuing a degree in engineering to apply my skills to weapons technology and sustainability engineering. I want to design systems that are both effective and sustainable—advancing security while minimizing impacts on the environment and human health. My goal is to build a career that leaves a lasting impact on the tech field, contributing to a community larger than myself and improving the world for future generations. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling with my husband, hiking, and learning about the natural world and the unique cultures I encounter.

Hackworth-Rhodes STEM Scholarship
Growing up in a bustling household with five siblings, I quickly learned the importance of responsibility and taking charge. As the oldest sibling, I found myself juggling multiple roles, from being a student and a student-athlete to helping take care of my younger siblings. These experiences have shaped me into a determined and compassionate individual. I value family and community, they inspire me the most and influence my interest and passions. From a young age, I have been fascinated by the power of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to transform our lives and solve complex problems. As I advanced through my academic journey, my passion for STEM grew stronger, fueled by a desire to create sustainable solutions and find ways to make existing technology more environmentally friendly.
One of the areas that deeply resonates with me is the development of sustainable technology. The world is facing pressing environmental challenges, and I firmly believe that through innovative thinking and scientific advancements, we can create a greener and more sustainable future. I am driven by the idea of harnessing the potential of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to meet our growing energy needs while reducing our carbon footprint. By combining my knowledge in engineering and technology, I hope to contribute to the design and implementation of sustainable energy systems that can make a significant impact on mitigating climate change.
Additionally, I am passionate about finding ways to make existing technology more environmentally friendly. In our rapidly advancing world, technology plays an integral role in our daily lives, but it also contributes to environmental degradation. Through my STEM career, I aim to work towards developing innovative solutions that minimize the environmental impact of technology. This could involve improving the energy efficiency of electronic devices, promoting the use of recyclable materials in manufacturing, or designing more sustainable transportation systems.
Beyond my career aspirations, I believe in the power of education and community engagement to bring about positive change. I am committed to sharing my passion for STEM with others, especially underserved communities. By volunteering in local schools and community organizations, I want to inspire young minds to pursue careers in STEM and empower them with the knowledge and tools to contribute to a more sustainable and equitable world.
In conclusion, the values instilled in me, and support from my family and community have inspired me to chase my dreams of a STEM career. With a passion for sustainability and a desire to create greener and more environmentally friendly technology, I am dedicated to contributing to the development of sustainable energy systems and finding innovative solutions to minimize the environmental impact of existing technology. I hope that I inspire others in the future to join the journey toward a brighter and more sustainable future.

High school is a crucial period in a student's life, filled with academic challenges, social pressures, and personal growth. As I embarked on this journey, I quickly realized that maintaining a healthy mind was just as important as achieving academic success. Throughout my high school years, I have learned valuable lessons and developed strategies to prioritize my mental well-being, allowing me to navigate the ups and downs of this transformative phase.
One of the lessons I learned was the significance of self-care. High school can be demanding, with rigorous coursework and extracurricular commitments. It's easy to become overwhelmed and neglect personal needs. However, I discovered that taking time for myself was vital for maintaining a healthy mind. Engaging in activities I enjoyed, such as hobbies, exercise, or spending time with loved ones, allowed me to recharge and rejuvenate. Making self-care a priority helped me find balance, reduce stress, and cultivate a positive mindset.
Another essential aspect of maintaining a healthy mind is learning how to manage stress effectively. High school can be a pressure cooker, with deadlines, exams, and high expectations. Recognizing the signs of stress and developing healthy coping mechanisms became paramount. I discovered techniques such as deep breathing exercises, mindfulness, and journaling, which helped me reduce anxiety and regain focus. Additionally, I learned to prioritize tasks, break them down into manageable steps, and seek support from teachers, friends, or family when needed. By adopting these strategies, I handled stress more effectively and maintained a healthy perspective throughout challenging times.
Building a support system was another crucial component of nurturing a healthy mind. High school can be socially complex, and having a network of supportive friends and mentors became invaluable. Surrounding myself with positive influences who understood and shared similar values created a space to freely express myself, seek advice, and receive encouragement. Whether it was discussing academic challenges, personal struggles, or celebrating achievements, my support system provided a sense of belonging and emotional stability.
Additionally, I learned the importance of seeking professional help when necessary. High school is a time of self-discovery, and it's normal to experience ups and downs. However, if sadness, anxiety, or overwhelming stress persisted, I realized the significance of reaching out to counselors or mental health professionals. Seeking guidance from trained professionals allowed me to better understand my emotions, develop coping strategies, and receive the support needed to navigate my mental health challenges.
Lastly, maintaining a healthy mind meant fostering a positive mindset and cultivating gratitude. It's easy to get caught up in negative self-talk, comparisons, and self-doubt during high school. However, I learned that practicing gratitude and focusing on the positives could significantly impact my mental well-being. Pausing to reflect on things I was grateful for helped shift my perspective, foster resilience, and cultivate a sense of optimism. Embracing a growth mindset and celebrating small victories empowered me to persevere and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.
In conclusion, learning to maintain a healthy mind throughout high school is a journey of self-discovery and growth. By prioritizing self-care, managing stress effectively, building a support system, seeking professional help when needed, and fostering a positive mindset, I have navigated the complexities of high school while nurturing my mental well-being.
These invaluable lessons have not only positively impacted my high school experience, but have equipped me with lifelong skills to maintain a healthy mind in all aspects of life. As I transition into new chapters beyond high school, I am confident that the foundation I have built will continue to guide me toward a fulfilling and balanced life.
