Dave Russell Memorial Scholarship for Skilled Trades
The trade I'm interested in is international management. I chose this profession because I would love to be a manager that connects businesses and people of diverse cultures. I've always been curious to discover how businesses operate in the world today and how management styles, communication, and teamwork vary among cultures. My dream is to manage sustainable and responsible businesses that not only profit but also assist in building better societies. I hope that global management can incorporate all my business, travel, and social change passions into a single profession, and guide me to become a Chief Sustainability Officer or entrepreneur one day.
Should the opportunity at some point ever present itself where I get a chance to pay it forward, I will be helping other students in trade realize their success using free online course learning on international communication, leadership, and marketing. I will also set up a scholarship for poor students or underprivileged students, especially for those who desire international business but have no way of being able to. Aside from finances, I would use my platform to mentor students, provide presentations at schools, and give genuine feedback on grit and motivation. I believe success is better when shared, and I would want to open doors for other people to succeed because I have been provided with the help to succeed.
Goobie-Ramlal Education Scholarship
As a college-bound student from an immigrant family, I have witnessed firsthand the resilience, sacrifice, and determination that define the immigrant experience. My family’s journey has been one of perseverance, adapting to a new country while striving for a better future. Their hard work and sacrifices have shaped my values and instilled in me a deep appreciation for opportunity, education, and the responsibility to give back.
Growing up, I watched my parents and relatives work tirelessly to build a life in a country that was unfamiliar to them. They faced language barriers, cultural differences, and economic struggles, yet they never wavered in their commitment to providing me with the best possible future. Their sacrifices have motivated me to push myself academically and athletically, knowing that education is the key to unlocking new opportunities and making a difference in the world.
As I prepare to enter college, I carry my family’s legacy with me. I plan to major in International Business, a field that aligns with my passion for global markets, sustainability, and economic development. I want to use my education and experiences to create opportunities for others, particularly for underrepresented communities that, like my family, have faced adversity. Whether through entrepreneurship, corporate leadership, or nonprofit work, I aim to build businesses and initiatives that prioritize ethical practices, sustainability, and social impact.
Beyond business, I am deeply passionate about community involvement and advocacy. My experiences have shown me the importance of giving back, and I aspire to uplift others through mentorship, education, and support programs. If I could start my own initiative, it would focus on providing resources and mentorship for first-generation college students, helping them navigate higher education and career opportunities. Many students from immigrant families face unique challenges, from financial burdens to lack of guidance, and I want to be a source of encouragement for those facing the same struggles I have.
Additionally, my background has taught me the importance of adaptability and perseverance—qualities that will serve me well in any career path I choose. Whether in business, sustainability, or philanthropy, I plan to use my platform to advocate for equity, diversity, and opportunities for marginalized communities. My family’s journey is a testament to the power of resilience, and I am committed to carrying that strength forward to create meaningful change.
Ultimately, I see my education as more than just a personal achievement—it is a tool to break barriers, inspire others, and build a future where success is accessible to all. Through my studies and career, I hope to honor my family’s sacrifices by making a positive and lasting impact on the world.
Aserina Hill Memorial Scholarship
I am a high school senior at Jose Marti STEM Academy with an insatiable curiosity about global markets and a passion for entrepreneurship. I aspire to major in International Business, where I can combine my love for diverse cultures, innovative ideas, and sustainable practices to make a lasting impact on the world. My academic interests extend far beyond the classroom, and I actively seek opportunities to learn and grow in various areas of life.
Outside of school, I immerse myself in a range of extracurricular activities that have shaped who I am today. I play volleyball, an experience that has taught me teamwork, strategic thinking, and resilience under pressure. In addition, my love for music is expressed through playing the piano and singing—both activities that have instilled in me discipline, creativity, and the courage to perform in front of others. These experiences have not only enriched my personal life but also honed skills that I believe are essential for any future leader.
I also serve as a lifeguard, an activity that demands quick decision-making, vigilance, and the ability to remain calm during emergencies. This role has reinforced my leadership skills and commitment to helping others, qualities that I plan to carry forward into my future career. Furthermore, swimming and exercising are integral parts of my routine; they keep me physically active and mentally sharp, reminding me that maintaining balance is key to overall success.
My interests extend to listening to psychology podcasts, which provide me with insights into human behavior and decision-making—critical components for understanding markets and consumer trends. Additionally, I am fascinated by the stock market and enjoy learning about financial strategies, economic trends, and how businesses grow and thrive on a global scale.
Community involvement is a central part of who I am, and if I could start my own charity, its mission would be twofold: to support cancer research and treatment for females and to provide care for cats affected by the disease. Cancer is a formidable adversary that impacts millions of lives, and I am driven by the desire to contribute to innovative treatments and comprehensive support systems for those battling it. At the same time, I have a deep compassion for animals—especially cats—that face similar challenges in shelters or through illness.
Volunteers in my charity would play a vital role. Some would focus on advertising and raising awareness about the cause through community events, social media campaigns, and educational outreach programs. Others would work hands-on with animal shelters, helping to find loving homes for cats in need and ensuring they receive proper care and treatment. By addressing both human and animal health, my charity would aim to foster a community where compassion and care extend to all living beings.
Post-high school, I plan to explore and expand my horizons by pursuing higher education in International Business. Whether I become an entrepreneur or take on a leadership role in a global company, my goal is to create sustainable, innovative solutions that benefit society. I am excited to embrace the challenges ahead and work toward a future where business and compassion go hand in hand.
Valerie Rabb Academic Scholarship
At eight years old, I lost my mother—the person who shaped me, nurtured me, and gave me the foundation for understanding the world. Her absence was a void I didn’t know how to fill, leaving me to navigate life in a household of men: my father and two older brothers. While they loved and supported me, I often felt out of place as the only girl in a home where femininity was unfamiliar territory. My father, who had lost his life partner, did his best to provide for us, but there were some things he simply couldn’t teach me.
Without a strong female role model at home, I sought guidance elsewhere. My teachers became my mentors, showing me the power of resilience, compassion, and perseverance. I gravitated toward them, valuing their wisdom and seeing them as more than just educators—they were leaders. One teacher, noticing my struggles, offered me shampoo and conditioner—not just as an act of kindness, but as a reminder that I was seen, that I mattered. That moment made me realize the profound impact one person’s support can have, a lesson that has shaped my approach to leadership and business.
Over time, I discovered that I wanted to use this resilience and adaptability to create something bigger than myself. As an aspiring entrepreneur and future Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), I aim to build businesses that not only thrive financially but also contribute positively to the world. Business, to me, is about more than profit—it’s about innovation, sustainability, and making a lasting impact. Studying International Business allows me to explore different cultures, global markets, and sustainable business strategies that can drive real change.
My study abroad experience in Madrid reinforced my passion for international business. Living with a host mother and two female classmates, I was immersed in a new culture, learning firsthand how global perspectives shape industries and economies. It also taught me the importance of adaptability—something I have carried with me throughout my life. I embrace challenges and unfamiliar environments because they push me to grow, just as my childhood circumstances did.
The adversity I’ve faced has fueled my determination to carve my own path. I want to build businesses that empower underrepresented voices, promote sustainability, and bridge cultural gaps. My experiences have taught me that the greatest challenges often lead to the most meaningful opportunities. No matter where my career takes me, I will remain committed to making a positive impact—one that honors my mother’s strength and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

My name is Taryn Landaverde, and I am a Hispanic woman about to embark on my journey as a college freshman. My life has been shaped by both challenges and the unwavering support of my family, especially my father, who has been my rock since my mother passed away eight years ago. Her loss was a pivotal moment for us, teaching me resilience and the importance of cherishing every opportunity.
Being the youngest in my family has been both a privilege and a responsibility. I have always looked up to my older siblings, who have paved the way for me in many respects. However, as the first in my family to attend college, I feel a strong sense of duty to set a positive example for them and show that higher education is within reach for all of us.
Throughout high school, I worked diligently to maintain a GPA of 4.018 out of 5. Balancing my studies with two part-time jobs was challenging, but necessary to help ease the financial burden on my father. He has always worked tirelessly to provide for us, and his sacrifices have inspired me to pursue my education with the same dedication. As a first-generation college student, I am determined to make him proud and show my siblings that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
I am passionate about pursuing a career that allows me to give back to my community and make a positive impact in the world. I am particularly interested in fields that involve helping others, such as social work or education. I believe that everyone deserves access to opportunities that can improve their lives, and I want to be part of creating those opportunities for others.
Receiving the Concrete Rose Scholarship Award would be a tremendous help in achieving my career goals. This scholarship would alleviate some of the financial burden of college, allowing me to focus more on my studies and less on worrying about how to pay for tuition and other expenses. It would also enable me to participate in extracurricular activities and internships that can enrich my education and provide valuable experience in my chosen field.
In addition to the financial support, receiving this scholarship would be an affirmation of my hard work and determination. It would motivate me to continue striving for excellence and remind me that there are people who believe in my potential to succeed. With this support, I would be able to fully dedicate myself to my studies and take advantage of all the opportunities that college has to offer.
Ultimately, my goal is to graduate with a degree that allows me to make a meaningful contribution to society. I want to be a role model for other young people in my community, showing them that with hard work and determination, they too can achieve their dreams. The Concrete Rose Scholarship Award would be an invaluable part of my journey, helping me to overcome financial obstacles and focus on my education and future career.
Thank you for considering my application. I am eager to begin this new chapter in my life and am grateful for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship.

The most difficult challenge has been my grandma's battle with cancer. As her condition worsened, my family and I have done everything we can to support her, both physically and emotionally. The emotional and physical toll of caring for her has been immense, and it has significantly affected my ability to focus on my studies.
This situation has been particularly hard for me because it brings back painful memories of my mom, who passed away from breast cancer when I was younger. Losing her left a huge hole in my heart, and the thought of losing my grandma has stirred up feelings of grief and uncertainty. The fear of losing another loved one has added immense stress and anxiety, making it difficult to concentrate on my education.
In addition to my grandma’s illness, my dad has been struggling financially. He used to work as a trucker, but his income has decreased over the years. He has been trying to find new ways to increase his revenue to support our family. Watching him struggle has been tough and adds another layer of stress to our situation. Despite these challenges, my family remains supportive of one another, and we are determined to get through this together.
Balancing my responsibilities at home with my academic commitments has been difficult, but I am finding ways to manage. I have had to be more disciplined with my time, creating schedules to ensure I can support my family while keeping up with my schoolwork. I have also reached out to my teachers for understanding and support, which has helped me stay on track.
Through these challenges, I have learned the importance of perseverance and determination. There have been moments when I felt overwhelmed, but I remind myself of my goals and the future I want to create for myself and my family. I focus on taking things one day at a time and celebrate small victories, like completing an assignment or doing well on a test.
This experience has taught me valuable lessons about resilience and the importance of family. It has strengthened my resolve to pursue higher education and set an example for my siblings. Despite the difficulties, I am proud of the progress I have made and remain committed to overcoming these obstacles.
Receiving the scholarship award would be a tremendous help financially and a recognition of my perseverance and dedication. I am excited about the opportunity to further my education and make a positive impact in my community. I am confident that my family and I will overcome these challenges, and I am determined to succeed in college and beyond.
First-Gen Flourishing Scholarship
Over the past year, my family has faced significant challenges that have impacted my academic performance. The toughest situation has been my grandmother's battle with cancer. As her condition worsened, my family and I did our best to support her physically and emotionally. Caring for her, while managing the fear of losing her, has added immense stress and anxiety to my life. This situation has been especially hard for me as it brings back memories of my mom, who passed away from breast cancer. Her death left a huge hole in my heart, and the thought of losing my grandmother has resurfaced feelings of grief and uncertainty.
The emotional and physical toll of these experiences has made it difficult to focus on my education. Despite these challenges, I am determined to push through and succeed in my studies. I have learned to find new ways to maintain a balance between personal responsibilities and schoolwork, even though this mental turmoil has taken its toll. I have relied on the support of my teachers and friends, who have been understanding and encouraging, which has helped me stay on track.
In addition to my grandmother's illness, my dad has been struggling financially. He used to work as a trucker, but his income has decreased over the years. Watching him try to find new ways to support our family has been tough and adds another layer of stress to our situation. Yet, my family remains supportive of each other, and this strength gives me hope. Seeing my dad's determination to provide for us has inspired me to work hard and make the most of my education.
These experiences have shaped my personal growth by teaching me resilience and the importance of perseverance. They have also influenced my outlook on education, making me realize how crucial it is to seize every opportunity to learn and grow. Education is not just a path to personal success; it is a way to uplift my family and community. I have come to understand that knowledge is a powerful tool that can help break cycles of hardship and create new opportunities.
I plan to use my education to positively impact my community by getting involved in programs that support families facing similar challenges. I want to offer guidance and mentorship to young people, especially those dealing with difficult circumstances. By sharing my story and experiences, I hope to inspire others to overcome their obstacles and pursue their dreams. I also aspire to work in a field where I can contribute to social change, helping to create systems that provide better support for families in need.

Dr. Robert M. Fleisher Liberty and Prosperity Award
To me, being a good citizen is about caring for the people around me and taking responsibility for my actions. It is about being involved in my community and helping out where I can, whether it is through volunteering, participating in local events, or simply being there for my neighbors when they need support. Good citizenship means respecting others, listening to different perspectives, and standing up for what is right, even when it is difficult. It is about doing my part to create a positive environment and striving to make a difference, no matter how small it may seem.
Voting is a crucial part of being a good citizen because it is our way of having a say in how our country is run. It is not just a right but a responsibility that allows us to shape the future. By voting, we choose leaders who represent our values and make decisions that affect our lives and the lives of those around us. It is essential for keeping our nation free because it ensures that power remains in the hands of the people, not just a few individuals. Voting allows us to express our opinions and push for change on issues that matter to us, like education, healthcare, and social justice. When we vote, we honor the struggles of those who fought for our right to do so and ensure that our voices are heard.
The Constitution is like the backbone of our country. It sets up the rules for how our government works and protects our rights. To me, it is a symbol of freedom and justice, a guiding document that ensures fairness and equality. It is a living document that has grown with us over time, adapting to new challenges and ensuring that everyone is treated fairly. The Constitution is important because it holds our leaders accountable and ensures that no one is above the law. It guarantees our freedoms, such as freedom of speech and religion, which are fundamental to our identity as a nation.
As a Hispanic woman, I am proud to be part of a diverse nation where different voices and cultures come together. Being a good citizen means embracing this diversity and working towards a better future for everyone. I believe that by staying informed, voting, and respecting the principles of the Constitution, we can all contribute to a more just and free society. It is about being active participants in our democracy and making sure that our nation continues to be a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. By doing so, we honor the values that our country was built upon and ensure that they endure for generations to come.
