Willie Mae Rawls Scholarship
When I was eight years old, my father moved to Tennessee. That first summer I visited him, he took me along on his house hunt. I vividly remember the real estate agent showing us beautiful homes and pulling up in a sleek, luxury car. After our first house viewing, I turned to my dad and asked, “How much do real estate agents make?” He explained that it varied depending on the price of the home, but then he said something that changed the course of my life: “Shoot to own more than just a house—own multiple properties.” That conversation, now more than 13 years ago, planted the seed that has grown into my lifelong goal of becoming a real estate mogul. It’s a dream rooted not just in financial success, but in the ability to transform communities and create generational wealth for my family and others.
As I enter my senior year at South Carolina State University, I’m proud to be on track to earn my degree in Business Management. This education is not just a stepping stone—it’s the foundation I need to understand markets, finance, development, and leadership. With this knowledge, I plan to build a real estate portfolio that focuses on sustainability, affordability, and community uplift.
I've always been good with math and handling numbers since a little boy and I've always wanted to be an businessman/entrepreneur so marketing was perfect for me to get into. I am always engaged with learning new things about sales and the good or bad sides of the business market. The more knowledge I retain, the greater my chances at success will be in the future with my real estate and clothes business.
However, in order to finish strong and reach this milestone, I am in need of financial assistance. A scholarship would ease the burden on me and my family, giving me more time and flexibility to pursue internships, develop my business plan, and focus on academic excellence. I am deeply motivated—not only by my ambitions but also by a sense of responsibility to give back. I believe in lifting as I climb, and I want to build a future where success is shared and progress is purposeful.
With your support, I will take the next step toward becoming a real estate leader who leaves a positive and lasting footprint on the world. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Tarekio Hill

John Young 'Pursue Your Passion' Scholarship
As I approach my junior year of college I am more politically aware of the decisions that
politicians make and how they can impact our future, especially as a young African American
male. And it has opened my eyes to the importance of receiving a college degree. I grew up in an
area where several of my peers did not pursue higher education and they are just existing right
now but I do not want that for my life. I chose to attend South Carolina State University because it is an HBCU close to home, it has a great Business program and it is an institution that supports
student achievement. Being accepted into South Carolina State University has been integral in
helping me prepare for my future. I aim to become a Real Estate mogul by majoring in Business
Management. A scholarship for me would represent not only financial assistance but an
opportunity to work toward accomplishing my goal.
I hope to make a big difference in the economy once I finish school, I'm working on getting my llc and real estate license now so I can be ahead of the game and get an internship soon to learn the game better and so I can become from a student to a teacher very quickly.
My Dad always preached to me the value of education. My dad served 32 years in the United
States Army and was not able to attend college during that time. After his retirement, he was
diagnosed as being a 100% permanent disabled veteran. His diagnosis did not stop him from
pursuing higher education while in his 50s. My dad went on to complete a Bachelor’s Degree
and Master’s Degree within 4 years. He became the first male in our family to receive a college
degree. A scholarship will help me to follow in his footsteps and continue his legacy of valuing
the importance of a college education.
In closing, I believe that receiving this scholarship will lessen the financial weight that is placed
on my family and allow me to continue in the pursuit of my dreams.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my application.
