My name is Tamptha Allen, I am a licensed practical nurse (LPN) that is currently working as a travel nurse. I am a single parent with three kids. I graduated from nursing school with my LPN degree in 2019 and have been practicing ever since. I was born and raised in Lumberton, NC and I am a member of the Lumbee Tribe in Robeson County. As you know, our tribe is not federally recognized but we are recognized by the state of NC. Our struggle to become federally recognized has been ongoing since the 1950s. As a tribe, our goal is to finally have federal recognition.
I am currently in school at Chamberlain School of Nursing-Charlotte, NC trying to obtain my BSN in Nursing. After completing my degree at I still plan to work in Robeson County. Graduating from school will show my kids that you can accomplish anything if you put your mind to it. I hope I can continue to contribute to the well being of others by furthering my education. The scholarship will be such a tremendous help to since I will be a full-time student and working full time. A difficulty that I must overcome is being able to pay for college and this scholarship is one way that will help overcome it. The scholarship would lighten my financial burden since I must pay for school out of pocket and do not have any other means of help. The scholarship will enable me to continue to further my education. Therefore, your consideration of my application for this semester will be appreciated. Upon completion of my education, I hope to be able to give back to my community and encourage others to pursue their dreams.
My Passion for Becoming a Registered Nurse
My interest in the profession triggered my passion for becoming a registered nurse. I have always wanted to help people in their difficult situations, and among the challenging situations in people's lives is when they are suffering from a disease. Once I help people in such situations, I feel satisfied simply because I have helped them. Secondly, I wanted to do something challenging and exciting in my career. I found nursing exciting and challenging because of the many aspects of patients that a nurse deals with. Therefore, because of this reason and the desire to make a difference in people's lives, I chose to be a nurse to fulfill people's needs when it comes to healthcare.
My Journey to Becoming a Registered Nurse
My journey to becoming a registered nurse has not been easy, I have faced several challenges, but I have overcome them. First, in different areas that I have worked, mandatory overtime has forced me to get home at odd hours. Inadequate supply of personal protective equipment has also been a significant challenge that has been had to overcome because they are crucial in practice. Short employment periods have also been a challenge. I worked for a few months in the place where I was first employed, and it was not easy for me to move to a new place bearing in mind that I had only been there for a few months. However, I can't fail to mention the things I have achieved throughout the practice. I have been able to offer education to both patients and their families, and the decisions they made gave excellent results. The journey has not been easy, but I never gave up until I became what I wanted.
