My life goals are to make a difference in the lives of other young girls who have experienced trauma related to sexual, physical and mental abuse at the hands of parents, immediate family members and friends. I do this by fostering their self-esteem, helping them accept what has happened to them is not their fault and was out of their control. As well as make sure they understand that an eye for eye mentality will ultimately lead to certain destruction. I currently teach them team building skills through cheerleading, gymnastics, and community volunteer work. I never feel like I am doing enough to help them however. I would love to one day be able to create a campaign internationally, using my current methods, as well as continued researched up to date methods, to help young women struggling with similar experiences, gain control of their life, and realize how amazing they are. How amazing they can be, and that they are never alone or without heartfelt support.

Most inspiring female leader, to me, is Sally Ride, the first American female astronaut. I find her so inspiring because she went outside of the norm in several aspects. The one attribute I find most notable about her, is her drive to continue her education, despite already having success as a semi-pro tennis athlete. Although unlikely, I would love to be able to reach and inspire as many young woman as Sally Ride has. Except inspiring them to study computer science versus physics.
I have worked with young girls, ages 5-10 since I was 14 years old. I continue working with young girls, now ages 10-18, teaching them about cheerleading and what it means to be a role model and a team mate. I require all of my girls to go to local businesses who support our schools at least three times a year, and have them pick up trash from their parking lots, clean floors, or volunteer to help wherever they are needed. I also assign each girl under 15, a mentor. Mainly as someone they can talk to, vent to, look up too. I do get some push back from some parents, who do not understand why I require the girls to volunteer and give back to our community. However, I explain how necessary I believe it is to teach them to help their community, even with a small task of picking up trash.
I grew up in the foster system, and have experienced both sides of youth. The bullying, and belittling someone else because they are poor, have intellectual disabilities, or have a physical malformation or disability. I was also able to experience the tolerant, encouraging, well liked and accepting sides of youth. To be a leader deserving of that title, will require much more work, planning, and outreach. Although I hope to inspire girls to continue their education, I will continue to always foster their self esteem, kindness, acceptance, and hopefully help them to one day grow into bright and brilliant leaders themselves.
