As I've grown up I've always been a caregiver for anyone around me, whether it was making a glass of water or putting a band-aid on a cut or scratch. I knew I truly wanted to get into healthcare when I would help my uncle who is visually impaired, whether it was changing the TV channel , getting to the restroom or even making his food whatever he needed help with I would try and be as helpful as possible. Another reason is my mom is currently an Radiologic Technologist seeing her compassion and how she will go above and beyond for her patients has always inspired me. I grew up in a merged household which usually is a 50/50 chance of working out. Unfortunately mines didn't at first I coped with it pretty well but as time went on it was definitely a struggle. It was a drastic change for everyone. But I knew if I kept my faith in God & continued to focus on the good that everything would turn out as it should. This experience brought me closer to God & drastically grew my faith. Also taught me that pain is temporary & your at home life cannot impact your life outside of that & school. Being a senior I have been involved in a lot of extracurricular activities such as Black student Union where I was the Junior co-president & now I am currently the senior president, Philharmonic Orchestra, Herndon career center where I got my Certified Nursing assistant license and also being active in my church pantry & youth program. These have shaped me into being able to work with anyone under any circumstance, having great teamwork and being reliable, which you need to have this type of attitude going into the healthcare world. I would like to focus on my experience at the Herndon career center which is where I got my licence as a certified nursing assistant. This program has played a big role in why I want to dive deeper into the healthcare field. While being in this program we attended clinicals where we had hands-on experience of working with residents. Building bonds with these people, having them rely on you for their care and just making them feel at home, is what I truly enjoyed there. Also the dedication that I had to that program was huge, the countless hours I put in, the late nights studying for quizzes, going to labs and talking to personal nursing students. It taught me that you have to have accountability and motivation for yourself, because nobody is going to get it for you. Being in this program it also taught me skills that I will take to college , finding a solid group of friends & studying together, staying organized and not ever procrastinate. I’m passionate about pursuing a career in nursing because I feel like our world needs more nurses who truly take time to care for their patients & make them as comfortable as possible no matter what state they are in. I also feel like people don't understand that nurses set the standard for care whether its in a clinic or a hospital. I also hope to inspire anyone who wants to get into the healthcare field, to do it & stay dedicated. Anyone in the healthcare field needs to have empathy & compassion. I plan to carry on those by trying to remain calm and treat patients how I would want to be treated in the situation that they are in. Thank you for taking your time to read my essay, I hope to hear back!
