My life goal is to become a forensic scientist, a field where I can combine my passion for biology and my drive to help others by solving crimes and bringing justice. I’ve always been fascinated by science and how it can be applied to real-world problems, and I know this is the career path that will allow me to use my skills to make a meaningful impact.
Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, I’ve seen the struggles my family faced, but it’s also taught me resilience and determination. I’ve learned to balance school, work, and extracurricular activities like cheer practice and National Honor Society, all while supporting my family financially since I was 16. My family has always encouraged me to pursue education, and I am committed to breaking generational cycles of underachievement by using my knowledge to create a successful future.
What drives me is not just achieving my personal goals but also setting an example for others—especially young Black women who may not see many people who look like them in STEM fields. I want to show them that despite any challenges we face, success is possible through hard work, determination, and education. I’m a great candidate because I’ve demonstrated the ability to persevere, take on responsibility, and remain focused on my goals. With the opportunity to continue my education and pursue my career, I plan to give back to my community and inspire others to believe in their own potential.

Resilience has been a defining part of my journey, shaping who I am and how I face challenges. Growing up in a low-income household with a single parent wasn’t easy. Resources were limited, opportunities were scarce, and it often felt like the odds were stacked against me. However, these hardships taught me the importance of perseverance and hard work. They lit a fire within me to rise above my circumstances and carve a path to success not just for myself, but for those who look up to me.
One moment that truly tested my resilience was when I decided to take on a dual enrollment program, cheer practice, National Honor Society, and a part-time job at the age of 16. I knew I had to step up, not just to support myself financially but also to contribute to my family’s needs. There were countless nights when I stayed up late finishing schoolwork after a long day of classes and work, feeling the weight of exhaustion but refusing to let it deter me. I reminded myself of why I was doing it all—to break generational cycles and prove to myself and others that success is possible with determination and faith.
This commitment to resilience hasn’t gone unnoticed. My younger siblings and peers often tell me how much my journey inspires them. My sister, for instance, recently confided in me that seeing me juggle so many responsibilities while excelling academically has motivated her to take her own education more seriously. Watching her work harder to improve her grades and set higher goals for herself has been one of the most rewarding outcomes of my journey. Knowing that my actions can spark change in someone else’s life fuels my determination even further.
Beyond my family, I’ve shared my story with classmates and younger students, showing them that resilience can be a powerful tool to overcome any challenge. Whether it’s managing financial struggles, pushing through academic obstacles, or dealing with the emotional toll of feeling left out due to limited resources, I want others to see that they are not defined by their circumstances. Instead, they are defined by how they rise above them.
I plan to carry this mindset into my future career as a forensic scientist. In a field dedicated to seeking justice and uncovering the truth, resilience is essential. My life experiences have taught me how to adapt, persevere, and stay focused on the bigger picture. These lessons will not only help me succeed professionally but also allow me to inspire others who may feel like the odds are against them.
This scholarship represents more than financial assistance—it’s a chance for me to continue turning my struggles into strengths and showing others that they, too, can overcome challenges with resilience. By sharing my story and striving for success, I hope to be a beacon of hope and motivation for my community. Resilience has shaped my journey, and I’m determined to use it to make a lasting, positive impact on the world around me.

To me, going to college is a transformative opportunity. It’s not only a chance to earn a degree, but a step toward breaking generational cycles and building a future that my family has only imagined. Coming from a low-income, single-parent household, I’ve seen and felt the challenges of making ends meet, and I understand the limitations that can hold people back. College is a way for me to overcome those limitations and use my education as a tool for growth and change, both for myself and those around me.
Throughout my life, I’ve watched smart, capable family members whose potential wasn’t fully realized, often due to limited opportunities. They inspired me to break that pattern by pursuing my goals with dedication. I chose to focus on forensic science because it allows me to combine my love for biology with my desire to help others, particularly by working in a field that brings justice and resolution to people in need. It’s a career path that is intellectually challenging and meaningful, one where I know I can make a tangible difference. Going to college is an essential step toward becoming a forensic scientist, as it gives me the foundational knowledge and hands-on experience to turn my career goals into reality.
Beyond my own ambitions, going to college means setting an example for others who might face similar challenges. As a young Black woman pursuing a career in STEM, I want to show other students that it’s possible to succeed, no matter where you start. Representation matters, and I hope my journey can inspire others to believe that they too can overcome obstacles and pursue their passions, regardless of their background. I know the impact of seeing someone who looks like you achieve something you thought might be impossible, and I want to be that example.
Receiving this scholarship would be a tremendous help as I work toward my goals. It would allow me to focus more on my studies without the constant stress of financial worries, letting me put my energy where it matters most—into learning and growing. With this support, I can fully commit myself to my academic journey, take advantage of the resources and opportunities that college offers, and push myself to excel in my studies. This scholarship wouldn’t just fund my education; it would be an investment in my potential to give back to my community and become a leader in my field.
Ultimately, college is my gateway to a future that goes beyond personal success. It’s a step toward creating positive change and paving the way for others. WinnerAs a young Black woman, growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, I’ve always been motivated by both my circumstances and my dreams. From a young age, I was fascinated by science—the intricate systems, the way everything fits together, and the power of discovery. But as I grew older, I noticed that there weren’t many people who looked like me in scientific fields. I saw a gap, especially for Black women, and I realized that part of my purpose is not only to pursue science but to help change that landscape for those who will come after me.
My passion for science, specifically forensic science, has grown over the years, driven by my desire to contribute to my community and to give a voice to those who no longer have one. I aim to earn a bachelor’s degree in biology, then pursue a master’s degree in forensic science. I believe that through forensic science, I can make a tangible difference by bringing justice to families and helping people heal. This career choice aligns perfectly with my goal of using my knowledge to create positive change, not only for individuals but for entire communities.
Alongside my academic pursuits, I am actively involved in the National Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, where I am building leadership skills and surrounding myself with driven, like-minded individuals. Balancing my dual-enrollment college classes and high school commitments, I’ve learned the value of perseverance and hard work, qualities that I know will serve me well in the future.
This scholarship will play an essential role in making my dreams a reality. It would relieve some of the financial pressure on my family and allow me to focus even more on my education and career preparation. Beyond the immediate benefits, this scholarship represents support for a young Black woman working to create her own path in science. In receiving this assistance, I would feel empowered to continue breaking down barriers for others and to serve as a visible example of what’s possible.
In the long term, my goal is to advocate for greater representation and diversity in science and forensic careers. I want to encourage other young Black girls who, like me, may not see themselves represented in science and math fields. It’s vital for the future of these fields to include diverse voices and perspectives. I am committed to being one of those voices and to lifting up others as I progress in my career.
This scholarship would bring me one step closer to that future, enabling me to focus wholeheartedly on my studies and on building a path that serves not only my dreams but the dreams of others who may feel unseen or overlooked. With this support, I am ready to bring my determination, perspective, and dedication to the field of science, making a difference for myself, my community, and the future.

Faith has always been my quiet anchor, but one experience brought me to understand just how powerful it truly is. A couple of years ago, my family faced a difficult time financially. My mom, who raised me and my siblings as a single parent, was working long hours, often coming home exhausted but still pushing forward because she wanted to provide the best for us. I could see the toll it was taking on her, and it made me feel both determined and helpless at the same time. I wanted to contribute somehow, to help lighten her load, but being a high school student with limited resources made that difficult. I remember many nights when I felt the weight of our situation, wondering what more I could do.
One evening, overwhelmed by the pressure and uncertainty, I turned to prayer. I asked for strength, for guidance, and for the resilience to support my family however I could. While I didn’t receive an immediate solution, I felt a sense of calm I hadn’t felt before, a quiet assurance that we would find a way forward. My faith reminded me that while I couldn’t change everything, I could focus on the things within my control and trust that we would eventually overcome this challenge.
This perspective shift was powerful. Instead of focusing on what I couldn’t fix, I started looking for small steps I could take. I doubled down on my academics, knowing that excelling in school would open doors for me and lessen my family’s future financial burden. When I turned sixteen, I found a part-time job that allowed me to save some money and also contribute at home in small but meaningful ways. It didn’t solve all our problems, but every little bit felt like progress, and each step I took helped reinforce the faith that had gotten me through those initial doubts.
Around this time, I also began researching scholarships and programs that could make college more affordable. I knew that earning a college degree would not only fulfill my goal of becoming a forensic scientist but also provide a way to give back to my family and community. With faith as my guide, I felt I could create a future where I could help support my mom and show others facing similar struggles that faith and hard work can truly lead to incredible change.
Today, as I look ahead to college and my career, I carry that same sense of faith and resilience with me. This experience taught me that faith isn’t just a belief in something bigger—it’s a source of strength, one that reminds me to keep going, even when challenges seem overwhelming. My faith is what pushes me to work hard, seek out opportunities, and never lose sight of the difference I want to make. I hope to inspire others to believe in their own strength and find purpose in the challenges they face. For me, faith has been the foundation on which I’ve built my goals, and it’s a strength I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.

Growing up with a single parent and facing financial struggles has made me who I am. I’ve watched my mom work late hours, sacrifice, and go without just to make sure we had what we needed. There were times when I couldn’t have what other kids had, and times I worried about how hard she had to work to keep things going. But each of those challenges lit a fire in me to push beyond my circumstances and create a future that would make her proud.
These experiences have led me to my passion for forensic science. I want to help bring justice to others and, one day, inspire kids who feel limited by their backgrounds to know that they can do incredible things. I hope to be someone who shows them that with determination, you can rise above any obstacle, no matter where you start.
I’m working hard to reach these goals by earning college credits while I’m still in high school, balancing my classes with leadership roles in the National Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa. Each of these steps brings me closer to making an impact, not only in my career but in my community. With this scholarship, I can go further—turning my dreams into reality and proving that with hard work, we can make a difference in ways that truly matter.

Pursuing Higher Education: A Path to My Dreams
For me, education is more than a pathway—it’s a lifeline. Growing up in a low-income household, I’ve seen dreams put on hold and talent left untapped because of financial limitations. My family is full of bright, hardworking people, but many of them never had the chance to fully use their talents due to a lack of resources. I am determined to change that pattern, not only for myself but for others who may feel limited by their circumstances.
Education represents freedom and possibility for me. It’s a way to rewrite my story, to show that no matter where you come from, you can break barriers and create a new path. My mother, who has sacrificed endlessly for me and my siblings, taught me the value of resilience. Though I’ve faced obstacles like growing up without my father’s support and dealing with financial struggles, I’ve used these challenges as fuel to push myself further. I want to be a role model for students who may feel their dreams are out of reach, showing them that education is a way to change lives.
In summary, higher education is more than just a degree for me—it’s a chance to make a lasting impact. This scholarship will allow me to achieve my goal of becoming a forensic scientist and inspire others along the way. With this support, I’m committed to making the most of every opportunity and using my education to contribute meaningfully to my community.
