I am the eldest girl of 6 children and my older brother is currently in his freshman year of college. During the pandemic, my mom had to quit her job to help take care of my younger siblings because of childcare issues which has created an additional financial strain on my family. Growing up in a low income household has made me a stronger person. I have seen the sacrifices my mom has had to endure so that I can become a successful young woman. I will not let her down. Ultimately scholarships like this will dictate what school I am able to attend due to the financial burden of my mom having two children in college at the same time. This scholarship will also serve as a motivational boost for me. I am currently enrolled in the International Baccalaureate®  program at Philadelphia High School for Girls with a weighted GPA of 4.07. I have shown by excelling in the International Baccalaureate® Program that I am committed to my academic success.  I strive every day to lead by example, as a student-athlete, working at a part-time job after school, and helping with my siblings. One of the reasons I’m pursuing a major in mathematics and finance is due to my passion around financial literacy which has been a hindrance in my community and family . I believe when individuals can manage their finances effectively, they can contribute to society as a whole through economic growth by doing things like saving more, investing wisely, and fueling the growth of local businesses. I think financial literacy is crucial to our personal and financial well-being, and one of my goals is to focus on a career that will give me a platform to encourage everyone to educate themselves on financial management and make informed decisions. My education is an investment in myself and in return I want to be a gift to upcoming generations and other low income families. Receiving this scholarship would have a significant impact on my academic career, goals, life, and lives of the people around me. The financial assistance provided by this scholarship would allow me to focus fully on my academic goals without having to worry about the burden of these financial expenses.
