My life goal is to become a clinical psychologist so I can help people better understand themselves, heal from their experiences, and build healthier lives. I’m passionate about mental health, especially within underserved communities, and I want to be someone who makes therapy more accessible, relatable, and effective for those who may not always feel seen in traditional spaces. I care deeply about creating safe environments where people feel heard and supported. I’m a great candidate because I’m empathetic, driven, and deeply committed to learning. I don’t just want to study psychology—I want to apply it in meaningful ways that truly make a difference in people’s lives.

My name is Symir, and I am a passionate, hardworking student with a strong commitment to mental health, community engagement, and making a positive impact wherever I go. I come from a background where I’ve had to work hard to earn every opportunity, and I’ve learned that compassion, resilience, and service can open doors not just for myself, but for those around me. As someone who hopes to become a clinical psychologist, I’ve always believed in using my voice and actions to uplift others, especially young people who may not feel seen or supported.
Community involvement has been a core part of my journey so far. I’ve participated in programs like YOACAP, where I attended leadership and career workshops, volunteered in my city, and had open conversations about social justice, health, and advocacy. I’ve worked on projects that directly benefit youth, like the mural I helped paint at a local school in Santa Ana during my trip to Panama. Despite intense weather conditions, my team and I completed the project, leaving behind a vibrant piece of art that brought color and pride to the school community. That experience taught me how service, teamwork, and persistence can create real change—and it deepened my desire to serve youth through both creative and therapeutic channels.
As I enter higher education, I face financial challenges that could impact my ability to access the education I need to reach my goals. I come from a working-class background, and while my family supports me emotionally, we do not have the financial means to cover the cost of tuition, housing, and other college expenses. Receiving a scholarship would lift a heavy burden and allow me to fully focus on my studies and future career without being held back by financial barriers.
One of the ways I actively keep children and youth safe in my community is by being a positive role model—both in person and online. I use my voice to speak out against bullying, and I promote kindness, inclusion, and mental wellness. I talk openly about self-respect, setting boundaries, and how to report harmful behavior. I’ve helped friends and peers understand how to protect their mental health and stay safe on social media by blocking negativity, reporting cyberbullying, and practicing digital responsibility. I believe that by showing others how to value themselves, we create a stronger, safer community.
My goal is to continue being a voice for youth who are often unheard and to be a safe space for others, just like I’ve needed at times in my own life. With the support of this scholarship, I know I can take the next step toward building a future centered around healing, empowerment, and change.
