My name is Sy’Maya Summiel. I am a hard working, determined, and motivated individual. I strive to do my best and make the most out of the activities I engage in. I don’t consider myself socially outgoing, but I enjoy being supportive and caring to those around me. When faced with challenges, I don’t give up, instead I work harder and try my best to overcome that difficulty. I am very organized and goal oriented. I would like to pursue a career in music in the future. I am currently pursing my Bachelor of Music (B.M.) degree with a focus in Music Education. My primary instrument is the flute, and I have beginner skills with other instruments. I have experience in various large and small-scale ensembles, as well as solo performance. I utilized computer, engaging in many programming tasks and assignments as a student program assistant, receptionist, and intern. I am heavily involved in many organizations and activities. I aspire to teach band and orchestra in urban school settings, celebrating cultural diversity, providing genuine care and support, and bringing something new to the music classroom.

As an intern, I was very versatile within the roles I was assigned. I did plenty of graphic design, data entry, assisting with collecting and maintaining donation inventory, and helped with our sale days.

Film Club
Film CriticismI, alongside my best friend, work as co-presidents teaching our students the basics of film. We viewed and analyzed films, and we eventually made our own. The goal is to educate those who want to go deeper in learning the concepts of filmmaking and film critiquing.
