I would describe myself as a person who is willing to learn new things and a person who goes above and beyond to show that I am serious about school and academics. Inside the classroom, I am a diligent and responsible student who always gets things done. Throughout my high school career, I have been recognized for my academic achievement in my classes, most of which have been Honors and Advanced Placement. Also, I am a Science Olympiad and a member of the National Honor Society and the Chapel Hill High School Math Team. Outside of the classroom, I have volunteered at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Vacation Bible School. In 2018, I had a leadership role for the first time and had to directly interact with the children. Although it was a new experience, I managed to make a positive impact on the children’s lives. Finally, during my free time, I like to cook, draw, and be creative in general.
I am very passionate about becoming a Nurse Practitioner in the future because it allows me to directly make a difference for both patients and their families daily and learn new things while changing and growing in the medical field. I became interested in becoming one at a young age. I have always liked helping people, and saving lives became one of my top goals. Therefore, while attending Kennesaw State University, I am going to involve myself in their Nursing Program and earn myself a BSN and at least an MSN. After college, I want to give back to my community by volunteering more and teaching others to be leaders.

I decided to pursue a career in Nursing after giving back to my community in 2009 at a summer camp I participated in called CAMP T.R.O.Y. My time there was fairly average up until the end when our coordinator stepped into the room and began discussing the event planned for the day. I never would have thought that this day would have changed my life forever. With an excited tone to his voice, the coordinator revealed that everyone is going to participate in preparing lunches and donating them to the homeless shelter in Atlanta; as if they had a mind of their own, my lips parted way for a smile, and my hand ascended into the air as I offered to help assemble the food.
As I finished carefully observing each lunch bag, I gave the coordinator a thumbs up in approval, signaling that we were ready to go to Atlanta. Upon arriving at the homeless shelter, I shifted my gaze to the numerous people sitting along the curbside, and my heart broke at the sight. Their clothes wore tears and stains, and their faces were presented with sadness. I hoped that with our donation, we could brighten their day.
As I donated my share of bag lunches, I witnessed grimaces transform into smiles; however, one woman’s reaction was the most noteworthy. She proceeded to take four bottles of water and said that each one was for herself, Jesus, God, and hope. It was at that moment that I tuned out my surroundings to the point where my thumping heartbeat became the only thing hitting my ears. At only nine years of age, I realized that I wanted to grow up to be heavily involved in helping others, and I knew that Nursing would be the way to go due to having plenty of opportunities to meet people of differing backgrounds.
Fast forward to today, my mind still holds a mental recording of the woman’s powerful words, and I always find myself closing my eyes while silently thanking her because she does not know how much she influenced me. Recently, I was blessed to be able to incorporate the skills I have learned in Nursing school with working at a hospital; the feeling of being privileged enough to be able to directly care for patients enraptures my mind, body, and spirit, and it continues to drive me to perform my best so that I can better my future patients’ lives.
