I am a person that advocates for change. I have been a part of several clubs and organizations throughout my high school career that have given me the opportunity to demonstrate my leadership and service skills. I am a person that is active and involved in the community. I not only run track for my high school, but I also volunteer at the local elementary schools, pre-schools, middle schools, as well as my own high school. This year alone, I have volunteered at fifteen places and completed over a hundred hours of community service. Throughout all of these community service and leadership organizations, I have found my passion in life. One of the greatest feelings in the world that I have been fortunate enough to experience is being able to help others. Seeing the impact my present has on younger kids has made me want to continue to help others. While attending college, I see myself continuing to use my educational resources to help others. I want to continue to give back and make a difference. Awarding me this scholarship would not only help me fund my education but also help me to pursue my passion for helping others. I plan to further my education in order to help me pursue a career in Clinical Sports Psychology. As an athlete myself, I know the mental toll athletics can have on one's mental health. I believe that more light needs to be shed on athletes battling mental health in sports and more resources need to be provided to help protect and serve these athletes. Once I have completed the requirements that I need to become a Clinical Sports Psychologist, I plan to start my own practice that is catered to serving collegiate and professional athletes. As well as creating my own app that provides an outlet for these athletes to be able to connect with one another through online classes and group therapy. So, no matter where the athlete is or the schedule they have, they do not have to feel like they have to put their mental health on the back burner. If other athletes were able to connect with others going through similar situations, I feel as though they would not be as lonely. They might even find the courage to share their stories in order to inspire others. I have always been a person that sets goals and achieves them, even when people have doubted me and, as someone who is young, black, female, a lot of people have doubted me. That is why it is believed to advocate for those others who have doubted and not give up on them. By furthering my education, it allows me to help make this world a better and safer place. I am aware that I may not be able to fix all the problems that are wrong with this world, but I do have the power to influence others and make a difference. By granting me this opportunity, that’s what I intend to do with it.
