I am a mother of two who has gone back to school to earn my bachelor's in business administration and accounting. I want to show my two girls that no matter what is going on in life, no matter what struggles you might be having, or what age you are, you can always go back to school and make something out of yourself. If I can do it with a full-time job and two little girls to care for, anyone can do it. At the moment I have also lost my place to live and am trying to find stable housing for my children and me, but I haven't given up on my school work. It's the one thing that I look forward to because it is the one thing that can change my future and my kid's future for the better. I love school and I always have. I am also in honors courses and have been ever since my 2nd quarter at Strayer. That is why I would be a good candidate for scholarships because I don't give up and I push through no matter what I have going on outside of school.

Learner Education Women in Mathematics Scholarship
I love everything about math. It has always come so easily to me. Unlike other subjects, math has one answer for its' problems and not two or three different possibilities. Math always calms me down and gets my mind off of everything I have going on in my life at that moment. When I start trying to figure out a complex math problem and I am able to solve it, I feel so smart and accomplished. Others have always looked up to me and come to me when it came to doing with math problems. That has also made me feel special and feel like I am wanted and needed.
My love of math is why I am becoming an accountant and has taught me to really weigh out all my options and think about if I have more good or bad options when thinking about my decisions. I see everything as a number or percent. Also, I relate many things to math problems to help my children understand things and help understand the world around them. My little girls also love math, so I promote her love of math and encourage her in any way that I can. I do not ever really watch tv. I would rather do school work all day or take assessments than watch tv for even an hour. I want to be outside measuring items for a science experiment and teaching my girls how math and science go side by side and all the fun you can have used math and science together. Also, I make sure they understand how important it is for all your math to be correct and that every measurement has to be precise or things could go terribly wrong depending on the experiment or activity you are performing. I hope I continue to grow and learn more math every day for the rest of my life. It is my true passion and I love everything about mathematics. Math is the best subject ever thought of.
