Bick Mile Square Scholarship
Growing up in Africa gave me a strong sense of who I am, and moving to Jersey two years ago has given me the chance to see how far I can go. Back home, life was different in many ways community felt close, traditions were strong, and I learned the value of appreciating what I had, even if it wasn’t much. At the same time, there were challenges: fewer opportunities, limited resources, and the pressure to work hard in order to stand out. Those experiences taught me resilience early on.
When I moved to Jersey, everything changed. Suddenly, I was in a place where things moved faster, the culture was different, and I had to find my footing all over again. At first, it wasn’t easy. I had to adapt to a new education system, make new friends, and sometimes face the feeling of being “different.” There were moments I felt out of place, but I refused to let that stop me. Instead, I saw it as a chance to grow. Each challenge pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone, learn new things, and keep working toward my goals.
One of the hardest parts was balancing two worlds holding onto my roots in Africa while embracing my new life here. But over time, I’ve realized that my background is my strength. It gives me perspective, motivation, and determination. I know how much my family sacrificed to give me the opportunity to study here, and that inspires me to work even harder.
This scholarship would mean more than financial help it would be a symbol that my journey, with all its challenges and transitions, is worth something. It would allow me to focus on building a future without constantly worrying about how to afford the opportunities I need. My goal is to pursue a career in insert your field of interest healthcare, business, technology, education, law, etc.] because I want to use my education not just for myself, but to give back to both my community here in Jersey and the one I left behind in Africa.
Growing up in Africa taught me gratitude, and moving to Jersey taught me resilience. Together, those two experiences have shaped me into someone who doesn’t give up when things get hard. I know how to adapt, how to keep going, and how to stay focused on the bigger picture. With this scholarship, I’ll be able to take the next steps in my education with confidence, knowing that my past and my future are both guiding me toward success.
