The beauty and fun behind Materials Engineering is being able to create, manipulate, process and utilize recourses that are ready at your current disposal. All with the goal in mind of creating a new product with your desired structural, mechanical and physical properties. In a mythical, perfect world there is only one super power that would trump all others as a materials engineer and it is known as Omnificence! The power to create and decompose matter from nothing at all. Possessing this power would have more benefits than imagined for not only myself, but for the entire world! Planet Earth is abundant in resources but there is still a fixed amount of materials that mankind has to work with, and within the last two hundred years we have exponentially accelerated our use of these natural tools. Having the power of omnificence would totally eliminate the fear of running out of precious material that we tend to worry about as a society in the modern world, such as natural energy sources, food, water and if it is 2020... toilet paper. While this would certainly help mankind as a whole, lets get to the fun (and a little more selfish) part of this deal. That new Playstation 5 that is constantly unattainable? No problem. Met a beautiful gal/gentleman who deserves a token of fine jewelry to express you interest? Quite literally put your mind to it and there they have it. Not only the world but even the stars and beyond would be at your fingertips. Forgot your pen before that final that you have been studying for weeks for? Who cares! Have two more at your desk waiting for you. The laws of conservation of mass and energy both mean nothing at the hands of someone that beholds this amazing gift. Besides the humanitarian benefits of omnificence, at some point I have to be honest and get a little selfish here and have fun with this power. There are currently 118 elements on the periodic table, but why not have 118,000? Why not conjure my own state of the art and never before seen rocket ship and go on a vacation to where ever the stars take me? Or even bring back my childhood pet cat that I have missed dearly. The limit does not exist with this seemingly unspoken super power yet in my opinion in can not be trumped. In engineering with are taught how to manipulate formulas by balancing our starting points and results through laws of conservation, but how amazing would it be to completely neglect being told where to start when the world(s) are at your fingertips.
