Bio

My life goals is to become a Nurse Practitioner , open my own office, mentor people who are in nursing school ,and offer them jobs after they graduate. I am most passionate about helping others be better than the person they were before. I want to be an example to others that you can do whatever your heart desires as long as you manifest, pray, and put the work in. I am a great candidate because I work very hard to get to where I am today. I have a very high gpa, I involved myself in clubs, took advance classes to challenge myself, and it payed off. I have learned so many things and I am humble by the experience.

My name is Stephanie Nwagwu, and I am currently a nursing student at Wayne State University with aspirations of becoming a labor and delivery nurse and eventually earning my Nurse Practitioner degree. Healthcare became my chosen field of study because I have always had a deep passion for helping people and making others feel cared for, supported, and understood during difficult moments in their lives. I knew early on that I wanted a career where I could directly impact people, and nursing stood out to me because it combines compassion, advocacy, leadership, and science all in one profession. My passion for healthcare has also been shaped by my personal experiences and the challenges I have faced throughout my educational journey. As a first-generation college student, pursuing nursing has required a great deal of sacrifice, resilience, and determination. One of the biggest sacrifices I made was stepping away from my job as a licensed pharmacy technician to focus fully on nursing school. Nursing courses, clinicals, and exams are extremely demanding, and although leaving work created financial stress, I understood that succeeding in my program had to come first. That experience taught me discipline, responsibility, and the importance of staying committed to long-term goals even when the process becomes difficult. Another experience that deeply impacted me was the passing of my grandmother. Losing someone who played such an important role in my life affected my motivation and emotional well-being during school. There were times when balancing grief with academic responsibilities felt overwhelming, but her memory became one of my greatest motivations to continue pursuing my dreams. Going through personal hardships while remaining committed to my education strengthened my empathy and reminded me how important compassionate care is for patients and families. In addition to academics, I have dedicated myself to leadership and community involvement because I believe healthcare extends beyond hospitals and clinics. Through my involvement in Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., Umu Igbo Unite Detroit, and the Promise Girl Prayer Circle, I have worked to uplift and support others through mentorship, service, and outreach. I also started an initiative called Igbo Market Day, which highlights excellence and success within the Igbo community while creating opportunities for cultural connection and empowerment. These experiences helped me grow into a stronger leader and taught me the importance of serving communities both inside and outside of healthcare settings. I am especially passionate about making a difference in Black communities and advocating for women’s health. As a future labor and delivery nurse, I want to create safe and supportive environments where women feel heard, respected, and cared for throughout pregnancy and childbirth. I also hope to continue building initiatives like “SHE CARES,” a healthcare summit focused on encouraging and empowering Black women pursuing healthcare careers while promoting conversations about health education and wellness. Ultimately, the difference I want to make is ensuring that people feel seen, valued, and supported during vulnerable moments in their lives. I want to use my education, leadership, and personal experiences to provide compassionate care, advocate for underserved communities, and inspire others to pursue their goals despite challenges they may face.
