Bio

I grew up from a very young age watching my father slowly deteriorate due to cancer while my mother was working double shifts and still trying her best to take care of all of us. Having grown with that experience, it has changed my outlook and my goals. I want to work in the medical field to help individuals and give support to them during their moments of the medical unknown. I chose sonography when I myself had my own health scare and through sonography the doctors were able to locate the issue and provide me a diagnosis to then take the necessary steps to have it resolved. I am currently enrolled in Hunter Business school and I am loving the field that I chose. My current goal is to graduate top of my class and hopefully get registered in four specialties of sonography

Coming from a mother who came from Colombia after her father was murdered and a father who left Cuba after his aunt was imprisoned due to her being considered an activist against the communist dictatorship. As a first generation American I have seen them struggle in many ways, not only financially but also due to medical issues which included seeing my father pass away from multiple myeloma when I was 11 years old and helping take care of my mother as she also had multiple medical issues. Since I have watched my mother struggle financially and work double shifts to be able to support her children, I am trying to pay my own way through my chosen trade. I used to work 40 hours when I was a full time college student, however as this is an accelerated program I had to lower my hours but believe that it will be worth it in the end to further my education and get a job I am proud of when I finish and also be able mother financially. I chose sonography when I myself had my own health scare, when I found out I had a 10cm cyst on my right ovary and right fallopian tube, which ended getting twisted and had to be surgically removed because of lack of blood flow. The ultrasound tech was there for me and was able to make me feel calm as this occurred in 2020 and I wasn't allowed to have support with me as this was during covid lockdown. Having this experience and seeing the ultrasound tech locate what was causing me so much pain, allowing the doctor to diagnosis me and remove the right ovary that contained the cyst along with fallopian tube, it inspired me to go into sonography and help women who have also gone through similar experiences and be able to be with them through these tough times through sonography. The doctors were able to locate the issue and provide me a diagnosis to then take the necessary steps to have it resolved. I am currently enrolled in Hunter Business school and I am loving the field that I chose. My current goal is to graduate top of my class and hopefully get registered in four specialties of sonography. I want to work in the medical field to help individuals and give support to them during their moments of the medical unknown. One of the most common complaints about medical personnel is the lack of empathy which is something I can bring to my chosen career. I know first hand how scary it can be for someone going through medical issues and waiting for a diagnosis to come in from their doctor. All of the above is why I chose the trade of sonography, it is a career I know I will be proud of being part of and will continue to grow within it.
