Bio

I am a devote mother with a full time job looking to finally pursue my dream job in the healthcare field. I have been in and out of college trying to balance work, being a mother/wife and pursing my career. I didn’t know what I wanted to purse but I knew it would be in the medical field. Sometime last year my grandfather had a heart attack and needed heart surgery. Seeing how much attention and care was provided to him by the Physical therapists during his rehab finally made me realize that is what I was meant to do. I want to show my children that no matter how long it takes, if you want something and you work hard for it, you can achieve it.

    1. I am a DACA recipient was Monterrey, Mexico. My mothers immigrated to Texas when I was 6 years old, this has been the only home I have ever really known. Raising three children while pursuing my education has been both rewarding and demanding. Balancing the responsibilities of parenthood with the demands of coursework and academic pursuits requires careful time management, sacrifice, and a strong support system. I recognize the vital role that education plays in empowering my children and providing them with opportunities that were once inaccessible to me. Through my educational journey, I aim to instill in them the value of perseverance, resilience, and the power of knowledge. 2. The financial burden of education, limited access to scholarships and grants, and the perpetual fear of losing legal protection have all posed significant hurdles. One of the initial challenges I encountered was adapting to a new educational system and cultural context. Differences in teaching methods, classroom dynamics, and academic expectations demanded a steep learning curve. I had to acclimate myself to new norms, engage with diverse perspectives, and navigate language barriers. Adjusting to a foreign educational environment required perseverance, open-mindedness, and a willingness to embrace cultural differences while maintaining my own identity. Language proficiency plays a crucial role in academic success, and as a non-native English speaker, I faced the additional hurdle of language barriers. Engaging in lectures, participating in discussions, and expressing myself effectively posed initial challenges. However, through perseverance and dedicated language practice, I gradually developed my English language skills, which empowered me to communicate more confidently and excel academically. Overcoming the language barrier not only enhanced my educational experience but also enriched my personal growth. 3. Life as an immigrant or foreign student demands resilience, adaptability, and the willingness to embrace uncertainty. All of which I didn't think I had in me. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone, encouraging my personal growth and self-discovery. Through this journey, I have developed a sense of independence, self-reliance, and cultural competence. I learned to navigate new environments, overcome challenges, and embrace diversity. This experience fostered a heightened sense of empathy, open-mindedness, and a global perspective that transcends borders. 4. Life as a DACA recipient raising three children has been a journey filled with challenges, sacrifices, and triumphs. Navigating the complexities of immigration status while pursuing education and nurturing my children demands unwavering determination, resilience, and the ability to find strength in the face of adversity. Through it all, my love for my children and my unwavering commitment to their future serve as the driving forces that propel me forward. Since a young age, I have always thought working in the healthcare field was a vocation I had a passion for which was driven by a genuine desire to serve, care, and make a positive impact on the lives of others. The ability to foster human connection, embrace lifelong learning, explore diverse specialties, and overcome challenges creates a rewarding and fulfilling career path. I have been captivated by the power of physical therapy to restore mobility, improve quality of life, and inspire individuals to overcome physical challenges. This passion has fueled my desire to become a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA). I’m ready to make a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and contribute to their overall well-being.

    American Dream Scholarship
The American Dream, a concept deeply ingrained in the nation's ethos, has traditionally symbolized the promise of upward mobility, opportunity, and prosperity for all. However, as a recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, my perspective on the American Dream is distinct. The American dream embodies hope, resilience, and the pursuit of a brighter future against formidable odds. As DACA recipients, we face a unique set of challenges in our pursuit of the American Dream. Uncertainty looms over our immigration status, and we often find ourselves navigating a complex web of policies and limitations. Yet, despite these adversities, we embody resilience. We refuse to let obstacles define our aspirations or limit our potential. The American Dream, for us, is the unwavering belief that through determination and perseverance, we can transcend circumstances and create a meaningful life for ourselves and contribute to the communities we call home. Education plays a pivotal role in the pursuit of the American Dream as a DACA recipient. We recognize that knowledge is a catalyst for social mobility and empowerment. With limited access to financial aid and restricted job opportunities, obtaining higher education can be an arduous journey. Nevertheless, DACA recipients persevere, often working multiple jobs or relying on community support to finance their education. For us, the American Dream encompasses the opportunity to attain knowledge, develop our skills, and contribute our talents to society, despite the challenges we face. The American Dream also means fostering a sense of community and engaging in advocacy. We understand the importance of unity and mutual support. Through various grassroots movements, organizations, and collective efforts, DACA recipients have shown resilience in the face of adversity. We advocate for comprehensive immigration reform, increased access to educational opportunities, and fair employment practices. By actively participating in our communities, we strive to create a more inclusive and equitable society for all, regardless of immigration status. For DACA recipients, the American Dream encompasses the pursuit of identity and belonging. We have been raised in America, embraced its values, and contributed to its communities. Yet, our immigration status often challenges our sense of belonging. The American Dream, then, becomes a journey of self-discovery, embracing our dual identities, and forging a path that combines the best of our cultural heritage with the opportunities and values of the United States. We strive to integrate our experiences, build bridges, and foster a more inclusive understanding of what it means to be an American. As DACA recipients, the American Dream takes on a distinct meaning that reflects our unique experiences, hopes, and challenges. It embodies resilience in the face of adversity, the pursuit of education and professional growth, community engagement, and the re-imagination of identity and belonging. The American Dream for us is not just an aspiration; it is a testament to our unwavering determination and belief in the potential for a brighter future. By embracing hope and resilience, we contribute to the rich tapestry of the American Dream, redefining it and striving to build a more inclusive and equitable nation for all.

    Wellness Warriors Scholarship
Embarking on the college journey and holding a full-time job is an exciting but demanding chapter in life. As I navigate the academic rigors, social experiences, and personal responsibilities, managing my wellness has become an integral part of my life. Through self-reflection and proactive measures, I have discovered effective strategies to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle. I will be sharing my insights and experiences on managing personal wellness while attending college, working full time and being a mother. I realized the importance of creating a routine that worked for me when I decided to go back to school. By setting consistent wake-up and sleep schedules, I ensured I had enough rest to tackle the day's challenges. I also designated specific times for studying, socializing, exercising, and relaxation, which helped me strike a balance between academic demands, household duties, work responsibilities and personal well-being. Taking care of my physical health became a cornerstone of my wellness journey. Regular exercise not only improved my physical fitness but also became a powerful outlet for stress management and self-care which allows me to be better for my family. Additionally, making conscious choices about nutrition and staying hydrated provided me with sustained energy, improved focus, and overall vitality. College life can be overwhelming at times, but I learned the value of seeking and nurturing meaningful connections. By actively engaging with my peers, joining student organizations, and participating in social events, I built a support network that became my anchor during challenging moments. Although, understanding my limits and setting boundaries became crucial in managing personal wellness. I learned to evaluate my commitments and prioritize my well-being. By saying no to excessive responsibilities and choosing quality over quantity, I created space for self-care and prevented burnout. This empowered me to make choices aligned with my personal goals and values, allowing me to flourish both academically and personally. Time management and goal setting were essential skills I honed to maintain personal wellness. Waking up early, breaking down tasks into manageable steps, prioritizing assignments, and allocating specific study periods allowed me to stay organized and reduce stress. This approach helped me avoid last-minute cramming, fostered a sense of accomplishment, and discipline, and allowed for much-needed self-care and leisure activities. I incorporated strength training and reading into my daily routine, which helped me release stress, and find inner calm and mental clarity. Engaging in activities that brought me joy, such as playing with my kids or reading, allowed me to unwind and recharge. Additionally, I learned to recognize my limits and give myself permission to take breaks and engage in self-care practices, which proved instrumental in maintaining my overall well-being. Recognizing the importance of seeking support, I actively utilized the resources available to me on campus. Whether it was seeking academic support through tutoring programs, or attending workshops on well-being, I embraced these resources as valuable tools for personal growth and wellness. Seeking help when needed was not a sign of weakness but a proactive step toward nurturing my overall well-being.
