When people ask me something along the lines of "How has HVAC personally impacted my life?" I like to say that HVAC specifically, saved my Husband's life. Which ultimately saved our family's livelihood. During COVID, my husband lost his job working as an assembly lineman for a factory. One of those work now, pay now jobs. We made too much to qualify for welfare, and too little to live and eat comfortably. Every month it was a decision between food and a bill. It's a terrible place to be. As a disabled veteran, we solely relied on my monthly income and his minimum wage job to get by. It's was a very difficult time for us, our children, and out sanity. We had three children at the time and had no other choice but to survive. I contemplated unimaginable things. Like sending the kids away to family members or even getting divorced to qualify myself and children for state benefits. A very shameful time for us. One day I was walking with our children and saw "On Time Experts" HVAC truck. I had an Idea! I spoke to my husband, Michael. I asked him, "have you ever thought about plumbing, hvac, etc...?" He said "NOPE!" And it wasn't a nope as if he didn't think about it, but a nope like he just knew he wasn't qualified enough for it. I did't push any further. But at least, I put the bug in his ear. The next day he asked why asked him about all of these different trades. I told him i just had an idea after seeing an HVAC truck. He laughed. Of course. But at that moment, I knew those wheels were turning in his head. He was thinking about it. While those wheels were turning up, I began researching. I researched schools, pay, opportunities. We needed money and we needed it fast. Faster than Usan Bolt in the olympics! That fast. We couldn't celebrate our kids birthdays , buy chips or juice, or do "family funs". Thank God our kids were young still. I envisioned a different life for us when started our family and I was on a mission. A month later, our lights were cut off. For about a week, it was pitched black. As sunny and bright as it was in Texas in July; it was dark in our home and in our spirits. Despair started to set in. We made it work for our children. It was fun for them because they didn't understand but we were panicking. Pay day came around and we got the money to pay our light bill. $376.28 out of our budget. That means less food, rationing toiletries, and less gas in our car to get to and from work. Something had to change. I enrolled my husband in ACI of Grand Prairie, Texas. A seven week course for HVAC. Because, I had enough of us being poor. I told him him if he did not do this school and raise his family up from near poverty, we would have to move back home to New Jersey with my family. He did not want that so, he surly did not have a choice. He started school. Everyday he went to school. He studied and he studied hard. I was so inspired by his determination. Even in his stress he learned a new way of thinking and his faith in Christ grew more. I prayed for that. The day came for him to take his E.P.A.. Not only did he pass his E.P.A. but he also passed his N.A.T.E on his first try! I was beyond proud of him. We had something to look forward to. From the military to becoming an HVAC Technician and every job in between was a huge shift in gears but it was worth it ! His first job he was an installer making $18 an hour. And I thought, "we made it!" But then he was offered a job making $20 an hour, then another offer making $25 an hour. Then another making $30. Now, he is a pillar of society teaching the young and old the industry of HVAC. So, when people ask "Why HVAC?" It's because without HVAC, my family wouldn't be here. HVAC saved us from more turmoil. We are debt free, we travel, we move around when we want, bills are paid on autopay, our kids are spoiled! Without God and HVAC we wouldn't be. That's why.
