Stella Kiddney is a senior at Severna Park High School with a deep commitment to environmental restoration rooted in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Growing up near the Severn River, she developed a connection to the Bay that evolved from childhood curiosity into years of hands-on conservation work.
That work centers on oyster restoration. Through the Severna Park Leadership Institute, Stella built and led the Hatton Beach Oyster Recovery program over three years — recruiting volunteers, designing ecology lessons, and developing a succession plan for its continuity. In Summer 2025, she extended that work as a paid research intern with the Severn River Association, conducting water quality sampling, drafting grant applications, and participating in the release of more than 22 million oyster spat into the Bay. The prior summer, she interned at the Annapolis Maritime Museum, designing and leading educational programs on keystone species for more than 500 children.
Stella carries a 4.5 weighted GPA across 16 AP courses, an ACT score of 35, and an SAT score of 1510. She was selected for the University of Notre Dame's fully funded Leadership Seminar, where she developed a 3-D eutrophication model to teach peers about Bay restoration.
Outside the classroom, she has competed in high school volleyball since freshman year and logged over 250 hours of community service, earning the Superintendent Service Award. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society.
