Bio

Hello! My name is Stacy Espinoza. I am 17 years old. First-generation to attend a four-year university in my family. I have three siblings and live with my parents. My parents came to the U.S to give me and my siblings a better future and a chance to be successful. Growing up I have always wanted to make my parents proud. My goal has always been to exceed beyond their expectations. A passion that I have never lost sight of is defending what I believe is right and serving justice in my community. My current goal is to attend the University of San Francisco and major in Political science. Throughout my years in high school, I have gained maturity, responsibility, and a new perspective of the world. I have been dual-enrolled at West hills college since the summer of my eighth-grade year. I received my associate's degree this spring! I have participated in many programs that have given me leadership skills, that I have applied in my life to help me pursue my goals. I plan on doing work-study and pay for the majority of my studies. My father believes that I will value my studies more If I pay for them, which I agree with. This scholarship would be a great help to minimize the expenses of the university I plan to attend. Since tuition is 37,000 dollars annually, I don't want to worry about student debt. I am a person that takes an opportunity when given the opportunity and I strongly believe that I will be successful in my endeavors through my hard work and dedication to my studies.

    Abby's First-Generation College Student Scholarship
A setback that I have had in my life is when I had to manage the most challenging obstacle that I had to overcome, was in 2020, not only was there a pandemic, and we were in quarantine, in which I had lost many of my friends due to no contact, but my mother was diagnosed in August 2020 with kidney cancer she had to get surgery so I started working to help my father with the costs, I did not focus in school and my grades dropped, my mental health was horrible since I had the responsibility of taking care of my siblings during the surgery and making them feel that everything was going to be okay. I was also a cheerleader, and a dual-enrolled student at west hills college. It was too much to manage, I was very overwhelmed and felt like a disappointment since my grades weren't enough. I felt like I had to fake a smile daily and tried to keep myself distracted. This was a very difficult challenge that we faced as a family, however, we successfully have overcome this challenge and my mother is now cancer-free and is just having monthly check-ups, I brought my grades back up and finished the courses I needed to graduate from college as well I learned to time manage myself and make time to continue having my part-time job and be a student at both west hills college and chowchilla highschool. This challenge has only made me stronger as a person and mentally ready for any other challenges that I will need to face in the future. I am a person that takes an opportunity when given the opportunity. I have participated in many programs that have given me leadership skills that I have applied in my life to help me pursue my goals. I strongly believe that I will be successful in my endeavors through my hard work and dedication to my studies, which helps me strive to overcome even the most of challenging obstacles that are in my way.

I am 17 years old, I am a high school senior planning to attend a private university, I am the first generation and my goals are to become an attorney and defend those who have been wrongfully accused or wrongfully treated. I have been impacted by drunk driving because about two years ago one of my friends was killed by a drunk driver in my community, it affected me because everyone knew the driver and knew that he would always get drunk and drive he had many DUI'S but still managed to be out of prison and later killed one of my friends this affected not only me and my friends but my community since it was very heartbreaking to know that this could have been prevented if this man would not have gotten behind a wheel while drunk. I have always been strict with family and friendships about drinking and driving, I have nothing against drinking however I know the impact that drinking and driving can have on a person. A second, a blink of an eye. Can have a huge impact, on a family, a community, and a life.

My Family, family is what I value most in the world, I know that without my family, wouldn't have all the accomplishments that I have today. My family is my motivation and they give me the strive to want more in life and succeed so that I can make them proud. They are my everything because everything that I one day wish to accomplish, I wish to share it with them and give back all the love and support that they have given me growing up. I love them, they give me strength, that is why they are my everything.

My father, Is the person that I admire the most. My father is my hero and has been since the moment I was born. He has inspired me to pursue a further education since I first learned what a GPA was. My father has always told me that I can go anywhere I want I don't have to worry about the money he just wants me to be successful, follow my dreams, and accomplish my goals. He has always taught me right from wrong and given me so much love, I am his oldest daughter therefore I am the first generation in my family, My father has always had high expectations for me but never pressured them onto me. My dad has always tried helping me in my homework especially math he has always talked to me about maintaining good grades and how it can be beneficial in my future he has talked to me about different careers and has sat down with me to listen about new things that I have learned, I have always wanted to make my parents proud but especially my father after everything he has done for me all his hard work to build a healthy and strong family, and I see all the things my dad still has yet to accomplish I see the dreams and goals that my father wants to get to but I also see that he always puts me and my siblings first he wants us to have the education he couldn't have he wants us to have a succesful career and I will do anything in my power to make my father proud that is how he inspires me his strength his motivation to be someone even though he does not have the opportunities that I have I have seen all that he has accomplished without the same advantages that I have and that makes me feel like I can accomplish so much more if I am given the chance I don't want to overwhelm my dad with debts since he is the only provider in my household of six including myself my dad deserve to get to his goals and dreams as much as I do that is why I am applying to scholarships so my dad doesn't have to overwhelm himself in debt and so I can show him that I can get scholarships so he can be proud of what I have won. I want to go to a four-year university because I want to make my dad proud I see that he believes that I can do it he inspired me to enroll in college as a dual enrollment student he believed in me that I could do it and I did, he believed in me that I can learn to ride a bike and I did, he believed in me that I can learn to bake a cake and I did, everything that my father has believed in that I can do I have accomplished because my dad is my biggest motivation seeing his happiness of having a successful daughter is my dream which is why he is the person that inspires me the most and always will be.
