Bio
My life goals are to change the world through my acquired knowledge and skills over my course of being a nurse. I plan to become a Chief Nurse Officer (CNO) of a top ranked organization and thrive in my own practice of business after obtaining my Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) graduating in 2027!
I am most passionate about helping individuals become their greatest selves and being selfless at the same time. I take pride in helping my community of patients of various demographics who are often in their most vulnerable stages on our initial encounter at the bedside. I'm an advocate for doing what is right.
I am a great candidate for any scholarship that I apply to because I have displayed many leadership skills throughout my current lifespan and have exuded great professionalism and determination while reaching my goals. I need additional money to help me further my education due to exhausting all of my financial aid and now being ineligible because I am now a graduate seeking student. I value my time and want to always make the best of it! Nursing has been my God given passion, I love what I do. I am a natural caregiver and nurse at heart, well before I considered the nursing field!

Wellness Warriors Scholarship
Hello,
My name is Sharrieh Sparkman. Ways in which I manage my personal wellness while attending college is by trying to always have a positive outlook on things. I maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul by going to the gym 2-3 times a week. I also do cycling with my best friend every week. I can't begin to explain how much of a difference exercise makes in my overall mood releasing great loads of serotonin. I attend church on Sundays to make sure my spirit is right for the week and I pray daily for guidance in my life and for me to always make the best decisions for me and my children. I've learned that you have to make time for yourself and make sure that I am put together before I can begin to service anyone. A healthy and positive mind body and soul is vital in life and I think that maintaining health should always be a priority. By me being a nurse, I understand the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I often witness many positive and negative outcomes from my patients who have made a choice not to take care of their bodies and I promised myself that I would keep my health intact. I frequently provide patients with education on how to upkeep a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise and I work to implement these recommendations for myself as well. I'm a believer that you should practice what you preach. I have hosted fitness classes where I've helped other women feel better about themselves and reach that goal of having a positive outlook on their health. Outcomes are so important with the mind, body, and soul because many individuals are expecting something good to come out of what they are doing. I thank you for your time and consideration.
Maintaining my wellness will help me to succeed as a student because of my ability to control my mind and thoughts. I often utilize thought blocking and try to maintain a positive attitude. Being well starts internally and then it is built upon. I am most well when I can find alternatives to offset things in my life that don't always go my way and have brought me some type of disappointment. As a result, I try to make the good out of that situation and stay focused on having a positive mindset most of the time.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

My name is Sharrieh Sparkman, and I am a registered nurse from Chicago. I am a mother of three beautiful children. I first wanted to become a CNA because of my passion for wanting to give and helping people. I then went on to obtain my LPN in which I became pregnant and experienced a toxic breakup, but I succeeded and completed my program after repeating one class. I wanted more after this, I wanted to attain the highest nursing possible so I knew that I had to go back. I have been addicted to life-long learning. When I complete school, there is something in me that wants to become more educated. I then went on to obtain my RN at Moraine Valley Community College and then my BSN at Purdue Northwest University starting their program 7 months pregnant.
I plan to make a positive impact on the work by giving back. I want to share what I know with my patients and peers that will have positive effects on their lives. I want to be able to leave this earth knowing that I did the work that was destined for me and that I did it to the best of my ability.

Jill S. Tolley Scholarship
Hello,
My name is Sharrieh Sparkman, and I am a single mother of 3 beautiful children. I am uniquely deserving of this award because I have fought to pursue each degree that I have while raising my children and working full-time to pay for daycare expenses on top of school and everyday expenses. I understand what it takes to have to provide while pursuing. It has not been easy but the rewards that follow are well worth it.
After losing my first child in 2013 while 8 months pregnant, I was still trying to finish school I was told by many peers to drop out and hold off on school, but I refused to because of fear of failing myself and my son. I was only a CNA at the time trying to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). I was determined and driven to finish and make something out of myself. I took my taxes and paid my rent for a semester and I remained focused on the end goal of becoming better and having something to show my child. Fast Forward to today, I am now a Registered Nurse with a BSN Degree pursuing my DNP. I now have 3 children, in which I've been in school their whole lives. I want to be a continuous example to my children that they can accomplish any goal and that they have to believe in themselves. I had to become my own leader and motivated myself to do things that I never thought were attainable. In the future, I hope to be more successful.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Charles Pulling Sr. Memorial Scholarship
Hello,
My name is Sharrieh Sparkman and what makes me a non-traditional student is the fact that I am a single mother of 3, I will be the first in my immediate family to graduate college. I have been forced many times throughout my life to take breaks and resume school simply because life has presented me with challenges. But, I never chose to quit. I have been working full-time and caring for my children while sending them through school. Currently, I am enrolling as a part-time student on a 4-year track, however, my first semester will consist of full-time hours due to the setup of my program.
What drives me to do more is my hunger to succeed and my desire to live a better life with my children. I am forever grateful for the sacrifices that my single mother at the time gave for me to be able to be better. My children are and will always be the center of why I do what I do. I do not want to let them down as a parent and I also want to show them that no matter what life throws at them, they too are overcomers.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Mind, Body, & Soul Scholarship
Hello,
My name is Sharrrieh Sparkman, a registered nurse from Chicago. One of the main things that excite me about college the most is the ability to learn in an open environment surrounded by various ethnic groups. I love the diversity of colleges and being able to collaborate on projects and be able to see how other people who are trying to obtain the same degree think differently than myself in a positive manner. I am also excited at the various resources that are offered that help me stay on the right educational track while pursuing my degree. This ranges from study groups to counseling, and office hours with my professor which helps alleviate stress and know that I have support. These small gestures contribute to my mental health and physical well-being.
Secondly, I maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul by going to the gym 2-3 times a week. I also do cycling with my best friend every week. I can't begin to explain how much of a difference exercise makes in my overall mood releasing great loads of serotonin. I will use this money to create a better life by first applying it to obtain more knowledge. I want to be able to pay for my books, fees, and classes. One semester for me is around $9500 which I am paying out of pocket for currently. I am working two jobs one full-time and the other part-time to be able to live and supply my financial requests for school. Failure is not an option for me and I have been working full-time, while in school, and caring for my children as my norm. I can multitask and I know what it means to do what is needed. Currently, I specialize in cardiac telemetry, wound care, and med surg in which I have worked with many patients with cancer and administered chemotherapy agents. I think that the greatest joy in nursing is being able to sympathize with and for your patients especially ones who are experiencing end of life. Being their joy, support, or sense of humor to get them through their sessions of chemo is vital. I plan to make a positive impact on the work by giving back. Scholarship Institute’s Annual Women’s Leadership Scholarship
Hello,
My name is Sharrieh Sparkman, a registered nurse for 7 years. I am expected to attend The University of Chicago in Fall 2023 where I was accepted into their Doctoral Nursing Practice (DNP) program. I have demonstrated leadership throughout my entire life especially being the oldest and only girl of 5 boys. I look at myself as a second mother figure in which I was placed in a position to oversee many tasks within my household due to my mom being a single mother and my siblings and I lost our fathers when we were toddlers and teenagers. Growing up through my adolescent years, learning, and knowing who I am has molded me into a great leader. I often take many initiates, in the workplace setting as well as my outside social life. I have been captain of my sports teams, and I have been the charge nurse in many jobs that I have embarked on in which I carried out many administrative roles. I have even been the manager for wound care in which I coordinated all needs of the nursing home where I was employed arranging tasks for myself and the staff that I managed according to my job duties as well as theirs.
Once I start a task, I work to finish it. In 2013 lost my firstborn at 8 months in which I had to have a funeral which was very devastating for me to experience. I then tried again and became pregnant with my son in 2014 in which I cried because I didn't think I'd carry him full term the doctors were trying to conclude what caused my first stillbirth and they determine that it was a blood clot. Little did I know I'd become a single parent in 2015 and experience a horrible breakup in which I failed one class due to emotional trauma and life events. I was told by many peers to drop out and hold off on school, but I refused to because of fear of failing myself and my son.
I hope to be able to start a business and be a part of organizations that will benefit both neighboring and my community. I pray that one day I can be a CEO of an organization utilizing all acquired skills and knowledge that will most benefits the greatest good for my patients and indiviuals who choose to follow in my positive footsteps.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Kind Regards,
Sharrieh Sparkman, BSN, RN, WCC
