“What is the purpose of all this new knowledge if not to reshape our conceptions of who we are what we might yet become?” - David Graber & David Wengrow, The Dawn of Everything. I've had an affinity for history from a young age, dreaming of visiting ancient ruins and dressing in ridiculously frilly dresses. Since then, I've had to jump around from country to country for my father's work in the military, taking the small yet insurmountable souvenir of entire cultures with me each time I moved. With culture comes history. Well documented are the feats of Napoleon and triumphs of Rome, but what of the little stories that so often get swept away with the winds of time? Just how significant were the lives of the nurses, wives, and tailors of centuries past? There's so little about the world that we truly understand, and much more that is known not quite correctly, swamped by sensationalized popular opinions of the past. I intend to pursue a degree in History to unveil some semblance of truth to grant a voice to those no longer able afford that luxury.
