Hello! I am Sophie and I am currently a freshman in college. I am currently studying Psychology and aspire to one day open up my own practice as a therapist. I work around 30 hours a week in order to work towards my goal of completing school without taking out major student loans. I have volunteered over 300 hours of community service and love helping out the community when I can! In my free time, I spend time with my family, friends, and dog, Daisy.

Bold Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
In order to help more people who struggle with mental health, we must end the stigmas surrounding it. Mental health is very important, and advocacy towards being more open about mental health, personal struggles, and even trauma would vastly improve the taboo surrounding the subject.
I have personally struggled with my mental health for as long as I can remember, and I believe that is why I became so passionate about it, even to go as far as studying psychology in hopes of opening my own practice as a therapist. I have always been an advocate for ending the stigmas surrounding mental health, as well as recruiting my peers to join in on the conversation. Conversations about mental health should be brought up at a much younger age, allowing children and young adults to understand their feelings instead of pushing them under the rug.
Mental health should not be this taboo subject that it has become. Many of us deal with our own battles from day to day and sometimes feel burdensome. From a young age, I always felt as if I had to lie about my mental health because I felt like my emotions were a burden to others. This is not the case, but can still sometimes feel as if it is. I strongly believe that if mental health was less stigmatized, more people would be open about their personal battles, as well as be able to better connect with others.
All in all, the topic of mental health should be something that people can easily talk about, without feeling as if they need to hide their emotions or feel as if they are a burden.
