Throughout my high school career I have participated in over 20 different extracurriculars at school, in church and in support of my community. I have loved writing since 7th grade and have always enjoyed serving others since a very young age. There is an indescribable contentment that comes from helping someone with something they may not be able to attain by themself. Journalism and Social Work combine these two passions by allowing me to use my writing to help others. Furthering my education will not only equip me with new skills I can use to reach more people, but it will also encourage growth within myself. My friend, Ari, would always strive to get to know something new about me every time we spoke. Her unwavering belief that everything was as it should be, especially when facing a horrible situation, was such an inspiration to me. It strengthened my sense of hope and helped repair my own faith. Since her death from cancer last year, I have shared her story with many people, inspiring me to work toward becoming a storyteller. In her honor, I will lift others up, fight for what is right, and recognize the lives and struggles of others through my writing and storytelling. All of this considered, I first want to educate myself on how to accomplish these goals in the best possible way. Once I have graduated from college, I would like to write my own book, tell the stories of community members through local journalism, and help people overcome challenges that may inhibit their capacity for happiness and success, by starting my very own non-profit organization.
