Future Leaders Scholarship
### **Demonstrating Leadership Through Advocacy and Innovation**
One of the most impactful leadership experiences in my academic and professional journey was **leading a student initiative at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF)** to support international students in navigating pre-arrival challenges. As an **International Education Committee (IEC) member** and a **student government ambassador**, I recognized that many incoming international students struggled with **understanding visa processes, housing, and campus resources** before arriving in the U.S. This gap in support inspired me to take action.
#### **Challenges Faced**
The primary challenges I encountered were:
1. **Lack of centralized information** – Many students found it difficult to access the right resources at the right time.
2. **Communication barriers** – Time zone differences and limited direct contact with students before their arrival created gaps in engagement.
3. **Coordination with multiple departments** – I needed to collaborate with university offices, student organizations, and faculty members to create a structured support system.
#### **Strategies Implemented**
To address these challenges, I:
- **Launched a Pre-Arrival Webinar Series**: I coordinated with the International Student Services (ISS) office to create **interactive sessions** where students could get real-time answers about visa processing, course registration, and housing options.
- **Developed a Digital Resource Guide**: I compiled **key information in a structured document**, ensuring that students had access to verified details about life at CSUF.
- **Created a Peer Mentorship Program**: I connected new students with experienced student mentors who provided **personalized guidance** on adjusting to life in the U.S.
#### **Impact of My Work**
The initiative **directly benefited over 200 incoming students** by reducing confusion, increasing engagement, and improving retention rates. Students reported feeling more confident and well-prepared before arriving at CSUF. Additionally, my efforts strengthened the **collaboration between student organizations and university administration**, paving the way for future student-led initiatives.
#### **Applying Leadership Skills to My Future Career**
This experience taught me how to **identify challenges, develop strategic solutions, and work cross-functionally**—skills that are essential in product management and technology leadership roles. In my future career, I aim to:
- **Lead customer-focused initiatives** by applying **data-driven insights** to enhance user experiences.
- **Advocate for inclusivity in product design**, ensuring that technology solutions cater to diverse user needs.
- **Foster collaboration between teams** by promoting clear communication, structured planning, and shared goals.
Leadership, to me, is about **empowering others, driving meaningful change, and creating long-lasting impact**. Whether in technology, business, or advocacy, I plan to leverage my skills to build innovative solutions that make a difference.
American Dream Scholarship
The **American Dream** is often described as the pursuit of success, freedom, and opportunity. To me, it represents **the ability to create a meaningful life through hard work, perseverance, and innovation, regardless of one’s background or circumstances**. It is about having the **freedom to dream big, the opportunity to achieve those dreams, and the ability to make a lasting impact** on society.
As an international student in the United States, the American Dream is deeply personal. It is about **access to knowledge, the ability to grow professionally, and the chance to contribute to something greater**. Coming from a different country, I have seen firsthand how the U.S. fosters innovation, encourages diversity, and provides opportunities that might not be as readily available elsewhere. Here, **merit and dedication often matter more than where you come from, allowing people to carve their own paths toward success**.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the American Dream is the idea of **limitless possibilities**. In the U.S., people are encouraged to explore, innovate, and push boundaries. Whether it's in technology, entrepreneurship, or social change, the country thrives on new ideas and the willingness to take risks. For someone like me, who is passionate about **technology, data analytics, and product development**, this dream means having the chance to work on groundbreaking innovations that improve lives.
However, the American Dream is not just about personal success—it is also about **giving back and uplifting others**. The ability to **use my education, skills, and experiences to create meaningful change** is a crucial part of my dream. Whether it is through building **user-friendly, impactful products**, mentoring students, or advocating for more inclusive opportunities, I believe success is measured not only by what we achieve but also by how we contribute to the world around us.
At the same time, I recognize that the American Dream is evolving. While it has traditionally been associated with material success—owning a home, financial stability, and career advancement—I see it as **more than just wealth or status**. Today, it is about **finding purpose, having the freedom to make choices, and being part of a diverse and inclusive society**. It is about **having the right to dream and the resources to turn those dreams into reality**.
For me, the American Dream is about **growth, opportunity, and impact**. It is the belief that **hard work, continuous learning, and resilience can lead to a fulfilling life and career**. It is about having the **freedom to explore, the opportunity to contribute, and the ability to leave a positive mark on the world**. No matter where we come from, we all share the desire to **thrive, innovate, and make a difference**—and that, to me, is the true essence of the American Dream.

**From Dreams of Medicine to a Future in Data Science**
As a child, I was fascinated by the idea of becoming a doctor. The ability to heal people and make a direct impact on their lives felt both noble and empowering. I would spend hours reading about medical breakthroughs and imagining myself in a white coat, diagnosing ailments and bringing comfort to those in need. However, as I grew older, I realized that my true passion lay not in medicine itself, but in the science and technology that drive healthcare innovations. This realization set me on a different but equally impactful path: data science and artificial intelligence.
My interest in technology was sparked in high school when I was first introduced to programming. The logic and creativity required to solve complex problems through code captivated me. I began exploring data analytics, discovering the power of data to uncover patterns, predict outcomes, and transform decision-making processes. This passion led me to pursue an MS in Computer Engineering at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), with a focus on data analytics and AI. My goal shifted from treating individual patients to leveraging data-driven insights to solve broader challenges in healthcare and other industries.
My academic journey at CSUF has been both rigorous and rewarding. As a research assistant under Dr. Rakesh Mahto, I worked on projects involving large-scale data analysis and predictive modeling, using Python, SQL, and cloud technologies to extract meaningful insights. My internship at Freightgate, a logistics and freight management platform, further honed my data analytics skills, allowing me to work with ETL/ELT processes and APIs to optimize logistics and supply chains. These experiences reinforced my belief that data science could be a powerful tool for driving efficiency and innovation across various sectors, including healthcare.
Although my career path has evolved, the core of my childhood aspiration—to make a meaningful impact—has remained unchanged. I am now driven by the vision of using data analytics to address critical challenges such as healthcare accessibility, climate change, and educational equity. For instance, I aspire to develop predictive models that can help healthcare providers allocate resources more effectively or design data-driven platforms that expand access to telemedicine in underserved communities. In essence, my goal is to harness the power of data to build solutions that improve lives at scale.
Beyond my technical pursuits, I have embraced leadership roles to advocate for diversity and inclusion in STEM. As a student government ambassador for ASI and a board member of the Hindu Yuva Club, I have worked to create supportive environments for international, Latinx, and first-generation students. My involvement in the International Education Committee and Graduate Education Committee has been instrumental in shaping policies that promote inclusivity. These experiences have deepened my commitment to making technology and education accessible to all, especially women and underrepresented communities in STEM.
Looking ahead, I am excited to continue my journey in data science, blending my technical expertise with my passion for advocacy. I believe that by building data-driven solutions and uplifting others, I can create a lasting impact that aligns with my childhood aspiration of making a difference. While my path has shifted from medicine to technology, the essence of my dream—to empower and uplift others—remains the same.
