To be a thoughtful, accountable, and productive community citizen is to live with intention, act with integrity, and invest your time and talents so that you support the elevation of others. It is to go beyond personal achievement to make a positive impact in the lives of those who surround you. This vision is not abstract to me—instead, it is a reality that I am committed to building, especially for children who face adversity and challenge. Children are the most vulnerable members of any community. Too many grow up with instability, trauma, or neglect—conditions that can determine their fate before they ever have a chance to define it for themselves. I want to change that. One of my aspirations is to start nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping children who are facing adversity—toiling with poverty, loss, abuse, or mental illness. I want to create sanctuaries where they can receive emotional support, educational assistance, and a sense of home. This mission matters deeply to me. I have seen with my own eyes how fast a child can become invisible when there is no one around to listen to them, to speak for them, to care. I want to be that person who steps in—just not with pity, but with action. I believe that with mentorship programs, education assistance, and mental health services, we can help these children rewrite their stories and tap into the best of themselves. In order to do this, I recognize that I must lead with purpose. That is, seeking education not as a road to a degree, but as a path for transformation. That is, being responsible with the trust and resources placed in me by others, and being grounded in empathy, compassion, and humility. That is, being productive—not necessarily in getting things done on a checklist, but in creating long-term outcomes that serve others. Just being a member of a community doesn't always require grand actions. Sometimes it is just the act of listening to a person's story, encouraging someone, or being present when needed. But I believe real change comes about when we take these small things and use them as part of a larger vision—something based on heart, guided by purpose, and driven by effort. Not only would this scholarship support my education, but it would take me one step closer to achieving a future where any child, no matter where they were from, has someone fighting for them. With my skills and knowledge, I can become a leader who not only excels in the area of life science, but who takes the success there and uses it to create safe and nurturing environments for the needy. My passion is not just to be an academic success, but to build something meaningful for others. I don't just want to be engaged in my community—I want to help transform it. And I also hope you see the potential in my vision and join me in turning it into reality.

If I could start a business with my little brother, it would be an innovative, community-centered car restoration and education center called "Miles of Memory." It would blend his love for cars with a mission that honors the joy, potential, and light he brought into the world during his short time here. My brother passed away at just three years old in a drowning accident. Though young, he had a quiet brilliance about him. He was observant, curious, and deeply thoughtful in ways that often surprised the adults around him. He was especially captivated by cars—anything with wheels and an engine would instantly grab his attention. Whether it was toy cars, passing traffic, or the sound of a revving engine, his eyes would light up with joy and fascination. "Miles of Memory" would be a place that helps people rebuild—not just vehicles, but also parts of themselves. We'd restore classic cars with a modern twist, blending craftsmanship and creativity. But more importantly, we’d offer youth programs where kids, especially those who’ve lost siblings or faced trauma, could come to learn about mechanics, teamwork, and resilience. The garage would be equal parts workshop and safe space—a place where curiosity is encouraged, where grief is understood, and where young minds could grow, just as my brother’s might have if he were still here. Starting this business with him in mind is not just about honoring what he loved, but about giving his short life a lasting legacy. It’s easy to measure someone’s life by years, but I’ve learned that impact isn’t tied to time. My brother, though only with us briefly, changed my life forever. He made me more patient, more present, and more passionate about creating meaning from pain. I imagine him in that garage with me—small goggles perched on his nose, greasy hands pointing out details I might’ve missed. He would’ve grown into a brilliant mechanic or engineer, I’m sure of it. And while I can’t share this world with him physically, building something in his memory gives me the next best thing: a sense of closeness, purpose, and healing. "Miles of Memory" wouldn’t just be a car business. It would be a testament to potential, to brotherhood, and to the love that doesn’t fade with time. In every engine we restore, in every child we mentor, in every mile we metaphorically travel—we’d be moving forward, together.

"Island Remix" is a fast-paced, music-inspired challenge that blends personality, connection, and creativity. Islanders are challenged to remix well-known moments from the villa — but with a musical twist. Whether it’s turning a compliment into a rap, narrating their journey like a pop song, or forming an impromptu duo with someone unexpected, this challenge encourages Islanders to think on their feet and show who they really are. Setting the Scene: The Islanders arrive at the outdoor stage, decorated like a tropical music festival. There are microphones, speakers, and a “Remix Spinner” in the center — a spinning wheel with challenge prompts. A live DJ (or pre-set music) creates a fun, energetic vibe. How It Works: Islanders spin the Remix Spinner, which lands on one of several music-themed prompts. Examples include: “Soundtrack of Your Journey” – Summarize your experience in the villa so far using lyrics, a short rhyme, or a spoken-word moment. “Compliment Karaoke” – Create a short jingle or song lyric that compliments another Islander (could be funny or sweet). “Duet with a Twist” – Team up with someone unexpected and act out a dramatic villa moment using song lyrics or dramatic monologues. “Remix Reveal” – Share something new about yourself, but express it like a rap, chant, or rhythm. Islanders have 60–90 seconds to prepare, then perform in front of the group. Bonus points for creativity, confidence, and team chemistry. The other Islanders vote for the Most Original Performance, Best Lyrics, and Biggest Bold Move — with fun prizes like a picnic date, music-themed merch, or hosting the villa playlist for the day. Why It Works: Bold Self-Expression: Encourages Islanders to show their personalities in a new, creative way. Light-Hearted Fun: Keeps the mood playful while sparking genuine connections. Talent Meets Emotion: Perfect for Islanders to show hidden talents or take emotional risks, like being vulnerable through humor or creativity. Memorable TV: Fun to watch, easy to clip, and gives viewers a new perspective on each Islander. Memorable Moments Potential: An Islander revealing a personal moment through a funny song. A surprising duo performing an unexpectedly heartfelt remix. A shy contestant finally stepping into the spotlight with a clever rap that gets everyone cheering. “Island Remix” brings together music, vulnerability, and bold creativity — showing that in the villa (and in life), sometimes the best way to connect is to put your own spin on things.
William Griggs Memorial Scholarship for Science and Math
Growing up in a military family meant I faced a lot of changes—moving to new places, starting new schools, and spending time apart during deployments. While it wasn't always easy, these experiences taught me to adapt, pay attention to what’s happening around me, and commit to serving others. I’ve found that these qualities are really important for the field I want to join: cybersecurity. As I get ready to study this area, I believe that keeping our digital systems safe is just as crucial as defending our physical borders today. My interest in cybersecurity started with a simple question: how can we stay safe online? Our personal information and critical infrastructure exist in digital spaces, yet many people don’t realize how exposed that information can be. I began looking into cybersecurity topics on my own and got really fascinated by how math and science come together to protect networks. As I learned more, it became clear that this was more than just a hobby for me—it felt like a calling. Cybersecurity involves problem-solving, critical thinking, and staying ahead of potential threats. I've picked up these skills from my love of math and science in school. Math has always drawn me in because it combines logic with creativity. Whether I'm tackling equations or breaking down a concept, I enjoy the process of figuring things out. The same kind of thinking is essential in cybersecurity—whether it's understanding encryption, analyzing threats, or creating defenses against cyberattacks, a strong math background is key. In science, I’ve learned to tackle complex problems with curiosity and determination. In college, I plan to study both the technical and ethical aspects of cybersecurity—from network security and ethical hacking to how artificial intelligence can help spot threats. I’m excited about using technology not just to solve problems, but to help create a safer, smarter future. Being part of a military family has instilled in me a strong sense of service. Even though I don’t wear a uniform, I want to give back by protecting the digital spaces that people, communities, and countries depend on. My goal is to work in public-sector cybersecurity, where I can contribute to national security and help protect vulnerable groups from digital risks. I also believe in the importance of representation and mentorship in STEM fields. Many students from underrepresented backgrounds may not see themselves in tech careers, and I want to change that. Whether it’s through mentoring younger students, speaking at events, or getting involved in outreach programs, I want to show others that they can find a place in math, science, and cybersecurity. Getting the William Griggs Memorial Scholarship would really help me take the next step in my journey. It would support my education and my commitment to using math and science for good. I’m keen to grow, learn, and eventually serve my community and country in a field that affects us all. For me, cybersecurity is more than just a job goal—it’s a way to protect, serve, and lead. With the help of this scholarship, I’ll be able to pursue that path with a clear purpose.
