Christian Fitness Association General Scholarship
I believe I should be considered for this scholarship because of my dedication to academic excellence, my commitment to extracurricular involvement, and my resilience in balancing multiple responsibilities throughout high school. My experiences in dance, teaching, work, leadership programs, and volunteering have shaped me into a disciplined, compassionate, and driven individual who is prepared to contribute meaningfully to both my education and my future career in NICU nursing.
Academically, I have consistently worked to challenge myself while maintaining balance with a demanding and highly structured schedule. I have learned that academic success is not only about intelligence, but about discipline, consistency, and time management. Throughout high school, I have developed systems to stay organized, prioritize responsibilities, and remain focused on long-term goals even when daily demands felt overwhelming. Balancing rigorous academics with intensive ballet training, work responsibilities, and leadership involvement required me to be intentional with every hour of my day. Rather than becoming overwhelmed, I learned how to adapt, plan ahead, and remain committed to my standards of excellence.
My extracurricular activities have played a major role in shaping my identity and values. Dance, particularly ballet, has been one of the most influential parts of my life. It has taught me perseverance, discipline, and resilience in ways few other experiences could. Ballet demands precision, endurance, and emotional strength. Long hours of training, physical exhaustion, and constant refinement of technique pushed me to develop both mental and physical toughness. It also taught me how to handle pressure, accept correction, and continue striving for improvement even when progress felt slow. These lessons have extended far beyond the studio and into every aspect of my life.
In addition to dancing, I have also gained meaningful experience as a ballet teacher. Teaching students of different ages and skill levels has strengthened my communication skills and deepened my sense of leadership. I have learned how to break down complex movements in a way that is understandable, how to adapt to different learning styles, and how to encourage students through both success and frustration. Teaching has shown me that leadership is not about authority, but about patience, empathy, and the ability to uplift others. It has also reinforced my passion for helping people grow, which strongly connects to my future in healthcare.
My experience working in a restaurant has further contributed to my personal and professional development. Working in a fast-paced environment taught me responsibility, teamwork, and adaptability under pressure. I learned how to communicate efficiently with coworkers, manage time-sensitive tasks, and remain calm during stressful situations. These skills are directly transferable to nursing, especially in high-intensity environments such as the NICU, where clear communication, focus, and teamwork are essential for patient care. This job also strengthened my work ethic and taught me the value of consistency and reliability in a professional setting.
I have also participated in the Chief Science Officer (CSO) program, which allowed me to engage in STEAM education and community outreach. Through this program, I worked to promote science education among younger students and encourage curiosity in STEM-related fields. One of the most rewarding aspects of this experience was seeing how engagement and enthusiasm for science could grow when presented in an accessible and interactive way. This program strengthened my leadership abilities, public speaking skills, and confidence in working with groups. It also reinforced my passion for science and service, both of which are central to my goal of becoming a NICU nurse.
In addition to these experiences, I have pursued tutoring, piano, violin, and volunteering, each of which has contributed to my personal growth. Tutoring has allowed me to support others academically, which has strengthened my ability to explain concepts clearly and patiently. Music has taught me discipline, creativity, and emotional expression, as both piano and violin require consistent practice and attention to detail. Volunteering has given me perspective on the importance of community involvement and selfless service. These experiences have helped me become more well-rounded and have strengthened my ability to connect with people from different backgrounds and needs.
One of the greatest challenges I have faced in high school has been balancing an extremely demanding schedule that included academics, dance training, work, and multiple extracurricular commitments. There were moments when the weight of everything felt overwhelming, and maintaining balance required constant effort and adjustment. However, I learned how to overcome this challenge by developing strong time management skills, creating structured routines, and making intentional sacrifices when necessary. I began to see my responsibilities not as separate burdens, but as interconnected parts of my growth. This mindset shift allowed me to stay focused rather than discouraged.
Through this experience, I developed resilience and a deeper understanding of what it means to be committed to long-term goals. I learned that success is not defined by avoiding difficulty, but by continuing forward despite it. This lesson has given me confidence in my ability to handle future challenges, especially as I transition into college and pursue a career in NICU nursing. I understand that this field will require emotional strength, precision, and the ability to remain calm under pressure, skills I have already begun developing through my experiences.
Overall, my academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and personal growth reflect my dedication to becoming a well-rounded, motivated, and compassionate individual. I have worked hard to balance multiple passions while maintaining a strong focus on my future in healthcare. I am deeply committed to pursuing a career in NICU nursing, where I hope to support some of the most vulnerable patients and their families during critical moments in their lives.
I believe this scholarship would not only support my continued education but also allow me to further develop the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to make a meaningful impact in healthcare and in my community.
Women in Healthcare Scholarship
I have chosen to pursue NICU nursing because I am deeply passionate about caring for vulnerable newborns and supporting families during some of the most emotional and fragile moments of their lives. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit represents both scientific precision and compassionate care, requiring nurses to advocate for patients who cannot speak for themselves. I am drawn to this responsibility because it combines empathy, resilience, and purpose.
The NICU is a place where small moments carry enormous meaning. A steady heartbeat, improved breathing, or gradual weight gain can represent hope for families. I am inspired by the idea of being part of these milestones and helping guide infants through their earliest challenges. I want to provide not only medical care but also emotional support to families who may feel overwhelmed or uncertain. Our only patients are not just the children but also the parents. They walk into the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit unsure and scared. It is our responsibility to attend to them and be the shoulder to lean on when times are difficult.
I also believe that choosing a career in healthcare allows me to make a meaningful impact as a woman in a field that requires leadership, strength, and compassion. Women have historically played a vital role in nursing, and I am proud to continue that legacy. I want to contribute to a healthcare environment where empathy and expertise work together to improve patient outcomes. Being a woman in healthcare also means representing care, communication, and advocacy in spaces where families rely on trust and reassurance.
My goal is to become a nurse who makes a lasting difference in both patient care and family experience. I want to ensure that every infant I care for is treated with dignity, attention, and compassion. I also hope to support parents by helping them feel informed, supported, and emotionally cared for during difficult times. In the NICU, small acts of kindness can have a powerful impact, and I want to bring that level of care into every interaction.
Ultimately, I have chosen NICU nursing because it aligns with my values of service, compassion, and resilience. It allows me to contribute to something larger than myself while making a direct impact on the lives of newborns and their families. As a woman in healthcare, I hope to embody strength, empathy, and dedication, helping to create a future where every baby has the best possible start in life.
Tawkify Meaningful Connections Scholarship
The meaningful relationships I have built with my ballet students have had a profound impact on who I am today. Teaching ballet has given me the opportunity to connect with individuals of different ages, personalities, and abilities. These relationships have not only shaped my identity as a teacher but have also influenced the way I build connections with others in all areas of my life.
When I first began teaching, I expected my role to focus primarily on technique and correction. However, I quickly learned that teaching ballet involves much more than physical instruction. It involves encouragement, emotional support, and understanding each student as an individual. Many of my students came into class with different levels of confidence. Some were shy and unsure of themselves, while others were eager but struggled with patience. Over time, I realized that my influence extended beyond dance steps, I was also shaping how they viewed themselves.
One of the most meaningful aspects of these relationships is watching students grow in confidence. I have seen students who once doubted themselves begin to believe in their abilities. I have witnessed small breakthroughs that meant everything to them, a clean turn, a strong jump, or simply standing more confidently at the barre. Being part of their progress has been incredibly rewarding and has taught me the value of patience and encouragement.
These experiences have also shaped my understanding of connection. I learned that trust is built through consistency and kindness. When students feel supported, they are more willing to take risks and grow. I make it a priority to create a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. This approach has helped me form stronger relationships based on respect and understanding.
My students have also shaped me personally. They have taught me how to be more patient, empathetic, and adaptable. Each student learns differently, which requires me to adjust my teaching style and communication. This flexibility has improved my ability to connect with people outside of dance as well. I have become more attentive to how others feel and more intentional in how I communicate.
Another important part of these relationships is mutual inspiration. While I teach my students, they also inspire me. Their determination, creativity, and excitement for dance remind me why I love ballet. Even on difficult days, their energy encourages me to stay passionate and committed. These relationships are not one-sided, they are built on shared growth and support.
As a result of teaching, I approach all relationships with more understanding and openness. I no longer focus only on instruction or outcomes; instead, I focus on connection. Whether I am interacting with students, peers, or others in my community, I prioritize empathy and communication. Teaching ballet has shown me that meaningful relationships are built through patience, encouragement, and genuine care.
Ultimately, my students have shaped me into a more compassionate and thoughtful individual. They have influenced how I build connections and reinforced the importance of supporting others in their growth. These relationships continue to inspire me every day and remain one of the most meaningful parts of my life.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My experience with mental health has been deeply shaped by my life in the dance world. Ballet is often seen from the outside as elegant, disciplined, and beautiful, and it is, but what is less visible is the intense mental pressure that can come with it. Over the years, I have struggled with the expectations, comparisons, and internal pressure that exist within dance training. These experiences have shaped not only my understanding of myself, but also my goals, my relationships, and my outlook on life.
In ballet, perfection is often the unspoken standard. Every detail matters, placement, turnout, musicality, expression, and endurance. While this level of precision is what makes ballet so powerful, it can also create an environment where self-criticism becomes constant. There were moments when I felt like I was never doing enough, even when I was giving everything I had. I compared myself to others in the studio, focusing on what I lacked rather than what I had achieved. This mindset sometimes affected my confidence and made me question my abilities.
Over time, I began to understand that these feelings were connected to mental health, not just discipline. Dance challenged me emotionally as much as physically. I had to learn how to separate growth from perfection and understand that improvement is not linear. Some days felt strong and successful, while others felt discouraging. Learning to accept both became an important part of my development as a dancer and as a person.
These experiences shaped my goals in meaningful ways. Instead of striving only for technical perfection, I began to focus on longevity, balance, and well-being. I realized that a sustainable career in dance requires not only physical strength but also mental resilience. My goals shifted from simply being the “best” to becoming someone who is consistent, healthy, and emotionally aware. I learned that success is not just about performance, but about endurance and mindset.
My mental health journey has also influenced my relationships. I became more empathetic toward others in the studio because I recognized that many dancers experience similar struggles internally. I learned to be more supportive, encouraging, and understanding with peers. Instead of viewing others as competition, I began to see them as individuals on their own journeys. This shift allowed me to build more meaningful and positive connections within my dance environment.
One of the most important outcomes of my experience has been my desire to support the mental health of my own students. As someone who teaches ballet, I now understand how powerful words and environment can be. I strive to create a space where students feel safe to learn without fear of judgment. I encourage them to focus on progress rather than perfection and remind them that mistakes are part of growth. I pay attention to how they feel emotionally, not just how they perform technically.
I also try to model a healthy mindset by being honest about growth and effort. I emphasize patience and self-compassion, especially when students feel frustrated. I want them to understand that dance should build confidence, not diminish it. My goal is to help them develop both strong technique and strong self-esteem so they can enjoy ballet in a sustainable and positive way.
Ultimately, my experience with mental health in the dance world has shaped who I am today. It has taught me resilience, empathy, and self-awareness. It has influenced my goals by helping me prioritize balance and well-being. Most importantly, it has inspired me to support others so they do not feel alone in their struggles. Through dance, I have learned that mental health is just as important as physical ability, and I strive to carry that understanding into every aspect of my life and teaching.
Mark Caldwell Memorial STEM/STEAM Scholarship
One of the most challenging hardships I faced occurred when I experienced a knee injury during ballet. Dance had always been a central part of my life, and suddenly being unable to move the way I was accustomed to felt overwhelming. The injury not only affected me physically but also tested my mental resilience. I worried about losing progress, falling behind, and whether I would regain my strength. However, this experience ultimately taught me perseverance and determination as I worked toward my goal of dancing again.
The first step in overcoming this obstacle was accepting the need for patience. Recovery required rest, which was difficult because I was used to constant movement and training. Instead of rushing back too quickly, I focused on healing properly. I listened carefully to medical advice and followed a structured recovery plan. This taught me discipline in a new way, understanding that sometimes progress means slowing down to ensure long-term success.
During recovery, I used visualization techniques to stay mentally connected to dance. I imagined combinations, rehearsed choreography in my mind, and focused on musicality. This helped me maintain confidence and motivation even when I could not physically participate. I also worked on upper body strength, flexibility, and conditioning that did not strain my knee. These strategies allowed me to continue improving in other areas while waiting to return fully.
Another important skill I developed was resilience. There were moments when recovery felt slow and frustrating, but I reminded myself of my goal: to dance again. I set small milestones, celebrating each improvement, whether it was regaining range of motion or completing simple exercises. These small victories kept me motivated and reinforced my determination.
When I finally returned to the studio, I approached training with a new perspective. I was more mindful of technique, alignment, and injury prevention. The experience strengthened my appreciation for movement and reminded me not to take progress for granted. Overcoming this hardship made me stronger, both physically and mentally.
Ultimately, my knee injury taught me perseverance, patience, and determination. Through structured recovery, visualization, and resilience, I overcame the obstacles between me and my goal. Returning to dance was not only a physical achievement but also a testament to my commitment. This experience shaped my mindset and prepared me to face future challenges with confidence and strength. Although some may not view this as a tremendous hardship, as an individual who uses their body as a form of expression and passion, my injury took that away from me. It was an incredibly difficult hardship, but I got through it, learned from it, and carry its lesson with me every day.
Wieland Nurse Appreciation Scholarship
I have decided to pursue NICU nursing because I want to care for the most vulnerable patients and support families during some of the most emotional moments of their lives. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a place where compassion, patience, and precision come together to protect newborns who cannot speak for themselves. I am drawn to the responsibility of advocating for premature infants and helping them grow stronger. My inspiration for this career has been deeply influenced by my mom, who is a nurse and has shown me firsthand the meaningful impact this profession can have.
Growing up, I watched my mom dedicate herself to caring for others. She approached every patient with kindness, empathy, and professionalism. Seeing her commitment helped me understand that nursing is more than a job, it is a calling. She often shared stories about helping patients during difficult times and how even small acts of compassion could bring comfort. These experiences shaped my perspective and made me realize that I wanted to follow a similar path of service.
Her influence also showed me the emotional strength required in nursing. There are moments when patients and families face uncertainty, and nurses become a source of reassurance. My mom demonstrated how important it is to remain calm, compassionate, and supportive. Watching her handle challenges with patience inspired me to develop those same qualities. I want to bring that level of care into my own career, especially in the NICU, where families rely heavily on nurses for guidance and hope.
I am particularly drawn to NICU nursing because it focuses on helping newborns during the earliest stages of life. Premature babies require careful monitoring, gentle care, and constant advocacy. The idea of being part of their progress, watching them grow stronger each day, is incredibly meaningful to me. I also value the opportunity to support parents during such emotional experiences. Providing reassurance and compassion to families is just as important as caring for the babies themselves.
My mom’s example continues to motivate me. She showed me that nurses make a difference not only through medical care but through empathy and connection. I hope to carry forward the same dedication and compassion in my own career. By pursuing NICU nursing, I want to honor her influence while creating my own path of service. My goal is to provide comfort, advocate for newborns, and bring hope to families, just as my mom has done for so many people.
I discovered this scholarship through the staff at my high school.
Julie Adams Memorial Scholarship – Women in STEM
I am passionate about pursuing a degree that combines my dedication to ballet with my goal of becoming a NICU nurse. While these fields may appear different, they share core values of discipline, compassion, resilience, and purpose. Ballet has shaped my work ethic, confidence, and perseverance, while nursing reflects my desire to help others and make a meaningful impact. Together, these passions represent both my creative identity and my commitment to service.
Ballet has been a defining part of my life, teaching me lessons that extend far beyond the studio. Training in ballet requires discipline, patience, and dedication. Progress is gradual, built through repetition and consistent effort. Each class challenges both physical and mental strength, encouraging focus and resilience. Through ballet, I learned to set goals, push through frustration, and remain committed even when improvement felt slow. These experiences shaped my mindset and strengthened my determination to pursue excellence.
Beyond technique, ballet is also an art form that allows expression. Movement becomes a way to communicate emotion, tell stories, and connect with others. This creative aspect inspires me because it blends discipline with individuality. Ballet encourages me to explore artistry while maintaining structure. The balance between precision and expression motivates me to continue growing as a dancer and artist. Pursuing ballet at a collegiate level will allow me to refine my technique, deepen my artistry, and continue developing the discipline that has shaped my character.
At the same time, I am deeply passionate about pursuing NICU nursing. My interest in this field comes from a desire to care for vulnerable newborns and support families during emotional experiences. NICU nurses play a critical role in monitoring premature infants, responding to subtle changes, and providing compassionate care. The responsibility of advocating for patients who cannot speak for themselves is meaningful to me. I am inspired by the idea that each small improvement represents progress and hope.
These two passions complement each other more than they may appear. Ballet has taught me patience, attention to detail, and resilience, qualities essential in nursing. Long hours of training prepared me to stay focused and composed, even in challenging situations. Ballet also taught me empathy, as dancers learn to connect emotionally with movement and storytelling. These skills will help me provide compassionate care and connect with families in the NICU.
Pursuing both ballet and nursing also reflects my desire for balance between art and science. Ballet fulfills my creative expression, while nursing allows me to apply knowledge and compassion to help others. Together, they create a well-rounded path that combines discipline with empathy. I want to continue growing artistically while also dedicating myself to a career that improves lives.
Ultimately, I am passionate about this degree because it reflects who I am and what I value. Ballet shaped my confidence, discipline, and resilience. NICU nursing represents my commitment to helping others and creating hope. By pursuing both, I aim to grow as an artist and a caregiver. These passions guide my goals and motivate me to work hard, remain compassionate, and strive for excellence in everything I do.
Community Health Ambassador Scholarship for Nursing Students
I have decided to pursue NICU nursing because I am drawn to caring for the most vulnerable patients and supporting families during some of the most emotional moments of their lives. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a place where compassion, precision, and resilience come together to help newborns who cannot speak for themselves. The responsibility of advocating for premature and critically ill infants inspires me, and I am motivated by the opportunity to provide hope, comfort, and care during the earliest and most fragile stages of life.
NICU nurses play a unique role in both medical care and emotional support. They monitor tiny patients closely, respond quickly to changes, and celebrate even the smallest signs of progress. I am inspired by the idea that each improvement, a steady heartbeat, stronger breathing, or the ability to feed independently, represents a step toward a healthy future. Being part of these moments would be incredibly meaningful to me. I want to dedicate my career to helping infants grow stronger and supporting families through uncertainty with reassurance and empathy.
Beyond the hospital setting, I also hope to contribute to my community as a nurse. I want to promote education about infant health, prenatal care, and resources available for families. Many parents face fear and uncertainty when their child requires intensive care, and I hope to provide guidance that empowers them. By educating families about safe practices, development, and available support systems, I can help create a stronger, healthier community. I also hope to participate in outreach programs that support new parents and advocate for access to quality healthcare.
Compassion is at the heart of how I want to serve my community. Nurses often become a source of comfort during stressful situations, and I aim to bring patience, understanding, and reassurance to every interaction. Whether supporting a family in the NICU or educating community members, I want to make people feel heard and valued. Even small acts of kindness, explaining procedures, celebrating progress, or simply listening, can make a lasting difference.
Ultimately, pursuing NICU nursing allows me to combine my passion for helping others with my desire to make a meaningful impact. I hope to contribute to my community by providing compassionate care, promoting education, and supporting families during vulnerable moments. By dedicating myself to this career, I aim to create an environment filled with hope and encouragement. Each baby I care for represents possibility, and through my work, I hope to help build stronger beginnings for both infants and the families who love them.
Doing Hard Things My Way: Adaptive Athlete Scholarship
I first began ballet as an athlete drawn to movement, discipline, and challenge. From the beginning, I quickly realized that ballet required both physical strength and mental resilience. Training demanded long hours, repetition, and constant focus. While I was inspired by the beauty of ballet, I also encountered struggles in the studio that tested my confidence. These challenges, however, became the foundation for my growth and helped shape my mindset, goals, and determination.
In the studio, progress was not always immediate. There were moments when technique felt difficult, corrections seemed overwhelming, and improvement required patience. Comparing myself to others sometimes created self-doubt, but I learned that ballet is a personal journey. Each dancer develops at a different pace, and success comes from persistence. Over time, I began focusing less on perfection and more on steady improvement. This shift in mindset helped me build confidence and trust my abilities.
Ballet also taught me discipline. Arriving prepared, listening carefully, and committing fully to each class became habits that extended beyond dance. The structure of ballet training encouraged me to set goals and work consistently toward them. Whether mastering a turn, improving flexibility, or refining artistry, I learned that progress is built through dedication. These lessons shaped my approach to challenges in other areas of life, teaching me to remain focused and resilient.
As I continued training, ballet became a source of confidence. Performing in front of others required courage and belief in my preparation. Each performance reinforced my growth, showing me that hard work leads to progress. Ballet helped me develop not only physical strength but also mental confidence. I learned to handle pressure, accept feedback, and push beyond limitations.
Looking ahead to college, I plan to continue pursuing ballet with the same determination. I want to challenge myself, grow artistically, and refine my technique. Ballet has shaped my goals by teaching me perseverance and commitment. These qualities will guide me as I balance academics, training, and future career aspirations. I am motivated to continue pushing forward, embracing challenges, and striving for improvement.
Ultimately, ballet transformed me from an athlete learning movement into a confident individual with purpose. The struggles I faced in the studio strengthened my mindset and taught me resilience. Ballet shaped my confidence, discipline, and goals, preparing me for the next chapter. As I move into college, I will carry these lessons with me, continuing to grow as both a dancer and a person.

"Kindness in Action' -
One meaningful act of kindness I offered was providing affordable private ballet lessons to students from low-income families. I noticed that many young dancers were passionate about ballet but lacked access to individualized training due to financial limitations. Private lessons can be expensive, and without them, some students miss opportunities to refine technique and build confidence. I wanted to help bridge that gap by offering discounted sessions so that these dancers could continue growing.
Teaching these lessons was about more than technique. I wanted each student to feel supported and capable, regardless of their financial situation. I focused on encouragement, patience, and creating a welcoming environment where they felt comfortable learning. Seeing their improvement and confidence grow reinforced why I chose to offer these opportunities. For some students, these lessons provided access they might not otherwise have had.
This experience taught me that kindness often involves recognizing barriers and finding ways to remove them. By offering affordable lessons, I helped create opportunities for students to pursue their passion. It was rewarding to see their excitement and dedication. This act of support strengthened my belief that even small efforts can make a meaningful difference and help others feel included and valued.
"Boldly, Unapologetically Me" -
There was a time in school when a discussion arose about a topic where most students quickly chose one side. I felt differently, but I hesitated at first because I did not want to stand out or create conflict. However, I realized that staying silent would mean not being true to my own beliefs. I decided to respectfully share my perspective, explaining my reasoning calmly and thoughtfully.
At first, I felt nervous speaking up, especially since many classmates had already aligned themselves with a different viewpoint. However, once I expressed my opinion, something unexpected happened. Other students began sharing their own thoughts as well. Some agreed with me, while others offered new perspectives. The conversation became more open and balanced, allowing everyone to feel comfortable contributing.
This experience taught me the importance of authenticity. It showed me that being true to myself can encourage others to do the same. Instead of simply following the majority, I learned to value respectful dialogue and independent thinking. Standing up for my beliefs helped create a more inclusive environment where multiple perspectives were welcomed. This moment reinforced my confidence in speaking honestly while remaining respectful of others.
"Creating Connection" -
Ballet has given me the opportunity to bring people together and create a sense of belonging. While teaching both younger students and adults, I focused on building an environment where everyone felt capable, regardless of experience level. Some students entered feeling nervous or unsure of themselves, but I encouraged them by emphasizing growth rather than perfection. My goal was to make ballet accessible and welcoming for everyone.
I worked with students of different ages and abilities, adapting my teaching style to meet their needs. For younger dancers, I focused on fun and creativity, helping them feel excited about learning. For adults, I emphasized confidence and encouragement, reminding them that it is never too late to pursue something new. Over time, I noticed that students began supporting each other, celebrating progress, and building friendships.
This experience showed me how art can create community. Ballet became more than a class, it became a place where individuals felt included and valued. By encouraging everyone and creating a positive atmosphere, I helped bring people together. Seeing students grow not only in technique but also in confidence reinforced the importance of inclusion and belonging within any community.
Philippe Forton Scholarship
One of the most powerful examples of compassion I have witnessed came from my mom, who is a nurse. Seeing her help people on a daily basis has shaped my understanding of what true compassion looks like. However, one moment that stands out occurred when we witnessed a car crash. While many people were unsure how to respond, my mom immediately stepped in to help. Her quick actions and calm demeanor demonstrated how compassion is not just about caring, it is about taking action when someone needs it most.
The accident happened suddenly, and the situation was chaotic. People were gathering, but no one seemed certain about what to do. Without hesitation, my mom moved toward the scene, assessing the situation and checking on those involved. She spoke calmly to the individuals, reassuring them while making sure they were safe. Her ability to remain composed helped reduce panic and created a sense of stability. Watching her respond in that moment showed me that compassion often requires courage and confidence.
What impacted me most was how she treated everyone with empathy. She spoke gently, asked if they were okay, and made sure they felt supported until further help arrived. Even though she did not know the people involved, she treated them with the same care she would give her own patients. This demonstrated that compassion is not limited to professional settings, it is a mindset carried into everyday life. Her willingness to help, regardless of circumstances, inspired me deeply.
This experience also reinforced my interest in nursing. I realized that compassion is about being present during someone’s most vulnerable moments. My mom’s actions showed me that helping others can make a lasting difference, even in a brief encounter. Her calmness, empathy, and willingness to step forward illustrated the kind of impact I hope to make in my own career.
Witnessing this situation taught me that compassion is not passive. It involves recognizing when someone needs help and choosing to act. My mom’s response to the car crash reflected her dedication to caring for others, both as a nurse and as a person. Her example continues to inspire me to pursue a career where I can offer the same support and reassurance. This moment reinforced my belief that even small acts of compassion can bring comfort, reduce fear, and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
Through this I have learned the amount of impact one decision and one person can make, inspiring me to live with kindness everyday.
Sara Jane Memorial Scholarship
My interest in NICU nursing comes from a deep desire to help the most vulnerable patients and support families during some of the most emotional moments of their lives. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit cares for premature and critically ill newborns who cannot speak for themselves, making the role of a nurse especially meaningful. I am drawn to this field because it combines compassion, attention to detail, and resilience. My goal is to build a successful career as a NICU nurse where I can provide comfort, advocate for newborns, and give families hope during uncertain times.
My inspiration for nursing began through personal experiences in hospital rooms with family members. During these moments, I observed how nurses made a powerful impact not only through their clinical skills but also through their empathy. They explained procedures calmly, reassured worried families, and created a sense of stability during stressful situations. Watching nurses interact with patients showed me that their presence alone could bring comfort. These experiences helped me realize that nursing is about more than medical care, it is about compassion, patience, and human connection.
My mom, who is also a nurse, has further influenced my desire to pursue this career. Seeing the impact she makes on so many lives has shaped my understanding of what it means to care for others. She approaches each patient with kindness and professionalism, often going beyond what is required to make someone feel supported. Watching her dedication reinforced my goal of becoming a nurse who makes a difference. Her example showed me that nursing is both challenging and rewarding, and it inspired me to pursue a career where I can help others in meaningful ways.
My experiences in dance have also helped prepare me for a future in nursing. Ballet requires discipline, perseverance, and attention to detail, qualities that are essential in healthcare. Long hours of training taught me patience and resilience, while performing helped me remain calm under pressure. These skills will help me in the NICU, where nurses must stay focused and composed while caring for fragile patients. Dance also taught me empathy and teamwork, which are critical when collaborating with healthcare professionals and supporting families.
Volunteering within my community has further strengthened my commitment to helping others. Through volunteering and working with students, I have learned the importance of patience, communication, and encouragement. These experiences allowed me to connect with people of different ages and backgrounds, reinforcing my passion for service. I hope to bring this same compassion into the NICU, where emotional support is just as important as medical care.
My goal is to build a career defined by dedication, compassion, and growth. I want to work hard every day to improve my skills, advocate for newborns, and create an environment of hope for families. Inspired by my mom, my hospital experiences, and my personal accomplishments in dance and community involvement, I am committed to pursuing NICU nursing. Through this path, I hope to make a meaningful impact, one baby, one family, and one moment of care at a time.

Ballet and art have always been a source of inspiration, discipline, and expression in my life. Ballet is more than movement; it is a form of storytelling that combines emotion, technique, and creativity. Through ballet, I have discovered a way to communicate without words, using movement to express ideas, feelings, and experiences. This connection between art and motion is what drives me to continue pursuing ballet and striving for growth within it.
One of the reasons ballet inspires me is the level of dedication it requires. Every movement demands precision, control, and intention. Progress in ballet does not happen quickly; it is built through repetition, patience, and perseverance. This process has shaped my mindset by teaching me that improvement takes time and commitment. Each class, rehearsal, and performance becomes an opportunity to refine technique and deepen expression. This pursuit of growth motivates me to keep pushing myself, even when challenges arise.
Ballet also allows me to connect with art in a unique way. Each variation tells a story, and every movement contributes to the overall narrative. Whether performing something delicate and soft or strong and dynamic, ballet gives me the freedom to explore different emotions. This artistic expression inspires me because it blends creativity with discipline. I am drawn to the balance between structure and freedom, where technique provides the foundation, and artistry brings it to life.
Another reason I strive to achieve in ballet is the sense of purpose it gives me. Ballet requires focus, resilience, and determination. There are moments of frustration, but those moments make improvement even more rewarding. The feeling of mastering a difficult combination or performing with confidence reinforces my passion. Ballet teaches me to trust my body, believe in my progress, and remain committed to my goals.
Art, in general, inspires me because it allows individuality. No two dancers interpret movement the same way, and this uniqueness makes ballet meaningful. Through my dancing, I hope to create something beautiful and inspiring. I want to communicate emotion and connect with audiences in a way that leaves an impression. Ballet becomes a reflection of dedication, discipline, and creativity working together.
Ultimately, ballet means growth, expression, and purpose to me. It challenges me physically and mentally while allowing me to express creativity. My inspiration comes from the beauty of movement, the discipline required, and the opportunity to tell stories through art. I am striving to achieve in ballet because it shapes who I am and gives me a meaningful way to express myself. Through continued dedication, I hope to grow as both an artist and a dancer, using ballet as a lifelong source of inspiration.

My passion for nursing comes from a deep desire to help others during their most vulnerable moments and to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Nursing is more than a profession to me; it is an opportunity to provide comfort, hope, and support. Among the many specialties within nursing, I am particularly drawn to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where nurses care for premature and critically ill newborns. The idea of helping the smallest and most fragile patients inspires me, and I hope to build a career dedicated to giving them the strongest possible start in life.
The NICU stands out to me because these patients cannot speak for themselves. Premature babies rely entirely on healthcare providers to advocate for their needs, monitor their progress, and provide compassionate care. I am motivated by the responsibility of being a voice for those who cannot express pain, fear, or discomfort. NICU nurses must pay close attention to subtle changes in vital signs, breathing patterns, and behavior. This level of attentiveness requires dedication and emotional strength, qualities I am eager to develop as I pursue nursing.
I am also inspired by the hope that exists within the NICU. Despite the challenges, every small milestone, a steady heartbeat, a successful feeding, or the ability to breathe independently, represents progress and possibility. Being part of those moments would be incredibly fulfilling. I want to celebrate each achievement alongside families, offering reassurance during difficult times and joy when improvements occur. Supporting parents through uncertainty is just as important as caring for the babies themselves, and I hope to provide compassion and encouragement every step of the way.
My goal is to make a lasting impact within this specialty by committing myself to continuous growth and excellence. NICU nursing requires ongoing learning, attention to detail, and resilience. I plan to work harder every day to expand my knowledge and refine my skills so that I can provide the highest quality care. By staying informed about advancements in neonatal care and maintaining a strong work ethic, I hope to contribute to improved outcomes for premature infants.
Beyond clinical care, I want to create an environment filled with hope. Families entering the NICU often experience fear and uncertainty, and nurses play a critical role in offering comfort. I hope to be someone who communicates clearly, listens empathetically, and helps families feel supported. Even small gestures, explaining a procedure, offering reassurance, or celebrating progress, can make a significant difference. My goal is to ensure that every baby I care for is surrounded by compassion and every family feels encouraged.
Ultimately, my passion for nursing comes from the fulfillment of helping others. The NICU represents a place where dedication, compassion, and skill come together to save and improve lives. I hope to dedicate my career to caring for premature babies, advocating for those who cannot speak, and working tirelessly to provide each child with a future full of possibility. By committing myself to this path, I aim to make a meaningful impact, one baby, one family, and one hopeful moment at a time.
Dream BIG, Rise HIGHER Scholarship
Education has been one of the most influential forces in shaping my goals and giving me a sense of direction. Through my experiences in school and participation in the Chief Science Officer (CSO) program, I discovered that learning is not just about absorbing information, it is about sharing knowledge, inspiring others, and using curiosity to create meaningful change. These experiences encouraged me to pursue a future rooted in service, leadership, and continuous growth.
Growing up, I was drawn to subjects that allowed me to explore how the world works. Science, in particular, sparked my curiosity because it combined creativity with logic. When I became involved in the Chief Science Officer program, my perspective on education expanded even further. The CSO program emphasizes STEAM, science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, and encourages students to bring these concepts into their communities. Through this program, I was not only learning science, I was teaching it. This shift from student to leader transformed the way I viewed education and my role within it.
One of the most impactful aspects of the CSO program was creating and leading activities that made science accessible and exciting for others. Whether I was demonstrating simple experiments or explaining concepts to younger students, I saw firsthand how curiosity could spread. Watching other kids become engaged and excited about science showed me that education has a ripple effect. Even adults who attended community events often expressed surprise and enthusiasm when they saw how interactive and creative science could be. These moments reinforced the idea that learning is powerful when it is shared. Seeing others become inspired motivated me to continue expanding my own knowledge so I could keep contributing.
The CSO program also helped me develop leadership and communication skills. Teaching scientific concepts requires clarity, patience, and adaptability. I learned how to explain ideas in ways that different audiences could understand, whether I was working with younger children or speaking to community members. This experience gave me confidence in my ability to guide others and reinforced my desire to pursue a career where education and service intersect. It also taught me that leadership is not about having all the answers but about encouraging curiosity and supporting others in their learning journeys.
Education also helped me discover the importance of interdisciplinary thinking. Through STEAM, I saw how science connects with creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. This understanding has influenced my long-term goals, particularly my interest in nursing. Healthcare relies heavily on science, but it also requires compassion, communication, and adaptability. My experiences in the CSO program prepared me to think critically while also considering the human side of learning and service. Just as I worked to make science approachable for others, I hope to one day make healthcare more understandable and reassuring for patients and families.
Another way education shaped my direction was by encouraging persistence. Planning CSO events required organization, collaboration, and dedication. Not every activity worked perfectly the first time, but each experience taught me how to improve. This resilience translated into my academic mindset. Instead of viewing challenges as obstacles, I began to see them as opportunities to grow. Education became less about perfection and more about progress, exploration, and impact.
Perhaps the most meaningful lesson I gained from education and the CSO program was the importance of inspiring others. When I saw younger students light up during experiments or ask thoughtful questions, I realized that learning can empower people. This realization influenced my desire to pursue a career centered on helping others. Whether through healthcare, education, or community outreach, I want to continue creating environments where people feel encouraged to learn and grow.
Education has given me direction by showing me that knowledge is most meaningful when it is shared. Through the CSO program, I developed leadership skills, confidence, and a passion for inspiring curiosity. These experiences shaped my goals by encouraging me to pursue a future that blends science, service, and community impact. I plan to carry these lessons forward as I continue my education and work toward a career where I can help others, promote understanding, and make a positive difference. Education has not only guided my path, it has given me purpose and the motivation to keep learning, teaching, and growing.
Through all of this I have learned to encourage everybody around me to continue in striving to learn. Being able to learn is one of the greatest gifts that was given to us. In a world where learning is an endless task we should use every minute to strive to continue with our education and live a life full of inspiration and a passion for learning.
Pamela Burlingame Memorial Scholarship for Dance/Theater
Dance has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have been dancing since I could walk, and it has grown into a passion that defines much of who I am. Currently, I dedicate up to 30 hours a week to training, pushing myself to improve in every aspect of technique, performance, and artistic expression. Dance is not just a hobby; it is an outlet, a source of joy, and a way for me to connect with myself and the world. When I am on stage or in the studio, I feel free, focused, and alive; it provides an escape from everyday stress and allows me to channel emotion, creativity, and energy in ways nothing else can.
My future goals in dance and theatre are centered around both mastery and teaching. I plan to pursue a degree in dance that will allow me to deepen my understanding of movement, anatomy, and the mechanics of performance. More importantly, I want to learn how to teach dance effectively, so that I can inspire and guide others on their own journeys. Ballet is the area I am most passionate about, and I hope to specialize in this discipline. Through teaching, I aim to give back to the dance world, sharing the knowledge, discipline, and artistry I have gained while helping others develop their own confidence, technique, and love for movement.
Dance has always inspired me because of the way it makes me feel and the transformative power it holds. From the first time I took a step in a dance class, I felt an incredible sense of purpose and belonging. It allows me to express myself beyond words, to tell stories, and to evoke emotion both in myself and in audiences. The discipline required in dance has taught me perseverance, patience, and resilience, lessons that I carry into every part of my life. Theatre, as an extension of dance, has also taught me the importance of teamwork, creativity, and connecting with others through shared performance.
Ultimately, my goal is to combine my love for dance and theatre with a career in teaching, helping others discover the same joy and freedom I have found. I want to inspire others to push their limits, embrace their creativity, and find their own voice through movement. Dance is more than an art form for me; it is a calling, a lifelong passion, and a way to contribute meaningfully to the world by giving back to the next generation of dancers.
