Hello! My name is Sofia Scicchitano, and I'm a senior at Washington Virtual Academy. Ever since I was young, art has always been my passion. Whether painting, drawing, or experimenting with different mediums, I love being able to recreate the world around me and share what I create with others. Next year, I plan to study both Art and Art Education at Western Washington University.
I’m applying for scholarships to help fund my education as I’m determined to pursue a career where I can both create and teach. These scholarships will allow me to focus on my studies and continue to grow as both an artist and an educator.

Natalie Jude Women in the Arts Scholarship
My name is Sofia Scicchitano, and I’m a female artist inspired by the natural world. Art has been my way of connecting with the beauty around me, especially through watercolor and oil paints. I’ve always felt a deep connection to nature, and it’s that sense of awe that drives me to recreate the landscapes I encounter, whether from my travels or the quiet beauty of my own backyard.
One of my favorite pieces is a landscape painting of a forest. I aimed to capture the tranquility and wonder a forest has, showcasing the beauty in quiet experiences we often overlook. This piece is significant to me as it reflects my artistic journey and my desire to learn and grow.
Currently, I'm a student at Everett Community College and will transfer to Western Washington University next year to pursue a double major in Art and Art Education. I aim to inspire others to find their creative voices, using art as a tool for self-expression and personal growth. I believe in the power of art to unite people and celebrate diversity.
Thank you for considering my application. I'm excited about the possibility of receiving your support to continue my artistic journey as both an artist and educator.
Lewis Hollins Memorial Art Scholarship
There are moments when the world feels at its most alive, and for me, those moments always happen when I’m surrounded by nature. I remember standing at the edge of a forest during one of my travels, watching the sunlight filter through the trees, casting shadows on the forest floor. That feeling of awe and wonder is something I try to capture every time I paint. With a brush in hand, I bring the landscapes to life, striving to preserve that fleeting moment and share it with others. It’s not just the beauty I’m after, it’s the raw, untamed spirit of nature that draws me in.
Growing up, I found solace in the outdoors, always feeling a deep connection to the earth beneath my feet and the sky above. My love for nature led me to watercolor and oil paints, where I began expressing my experiences through landscapes. Each painting is a journey, a reflection of a place I’ve been, or a memory I’ve held onto. Through my work, I want others to feel the same sense of awe and reverence for the world around them, and to understand the importance of protecting the beauty we so often take for granted.
I am excited to continue my studies in art, where I plan to further explore my craft and work toward a career in art education. I believe art can change lives, and I want to share that belief with others. As I transition to Western Washington University, I’m eager to combine my artistic passion with a desire to inspire others. By becoming both an artist and educator, I hope to nurture creativity in future generations and help others discover their own unique artistic voices.
The values of this scholarship deeply resonate with me, particularly its emphasis on fostering diversity in the arts. While I may not come from an underrepresented background myself, I am committed to creating an inclusive environment where every artist can thrive and share their stories. I believe that art is for everyone, and every artist deserves a platform to share their unique perspective. My journey as an artist is not just about creating for myself, but about fostering an environment where all voices are heard, celebrated, and supported. Art has the power to unite, and I aim to contribute to a more vibrant and diverse creative landscape.
Thank you for considering my application. I am excited to continue this journey, both as an artist and educator, and I look forward to the opportunity to bring my vision to life with your support.
