Sofia Pansini is a senior at Boston College pursuing a major in Global Public Health and the Common Good, with additional minors in Medical Humanities and English. With early interests in both healthcare and science research surrounding diabetes, Sofia is passionate about diabetes advocacy, research, and building community for those living with type 1 diabetes, herself included. At Boston College, she works as an undergraduate researcher in the Altindis Lab, conducting microbiology research on the signaling pathways behind the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, in efforts to one day understand its scientific intricacies. Throughout her academic career, she has also noticed the interconnectedness between global public health and medical humanities, which have enriched her understanding of the diabetes patient experience. She now hopes to consider the legal intricacies in this space as a public health lawyer. Additionally, Sofia worked as student liaison at the Boston Public Health Commission, creating informational flyers for the Greater Boston area on a variety of public health topics. On campus, she is president of Eagles for Diabetes, a support-style community for students living with, or interested in, diabetes–which she co-created alongside Samantha Schmer. Outside of BC, she enjoys writing poetry, and all things dog-related.
