Bio

My eyes were stinging as I stared through the window, waiting for my friend to arrive. Tired of being idle, I was returning to my room, that was when I heard a noise louder than my grandmother’s snore. There she stood with her pretty dress, golden-brown hair, and vivacious face. My eyes burst into tears as her dance moves were hilarious. When I thought she was taking a break, she began doing her whimsical action again, but this time she had snow growing out of her mouth. I was shocked and in awe to see her face change colors, hence I called my parents who rushed her to the hospital.I walked out of the waiting room to overhear my parents' muffled discussion, and all I could hear was money and demise. Being ten years old, I couldn’t weave those words into a story. As the rolling cart passed, I spotted a strand of brown hair, just like my friends, sticking out of the tray. I broke when I realized that my friend passed away. I was confused to know that the reason behind her demise was the lack of affordable health care. I started campaigns, joined nonprofit organizations, and petitions, and hosted talk shows to do something on my part. The availability of healthcare and its affordable pricing is questionable in today’s society. From then on I believed that creating change in healthcare accessibility was my existential purpose and I was working towards it. My passion for this cause has helped me to be persistent in any task I take upon. My parent's trust in me and my passion for medicine helps me stay focused on my goal and move through obstacles in life.

Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
“I promise you, nothing is as chaotic as it seems. Nothing is worth diminishing your health. Nothing is worth poisoning yourself into stress, anxiety, and fear.”– Steve Maraboli. Aspirations and desires are two key features every high school student requires for scaling heights. They accentuate every cell in their body to accomplish their goals. Being an enthralled student, I have witnessed many incidents where students push themselves beyond their reach. My best friend was a girl who had a smirk on her face at every instance, but over the past few years of high school, the pressure to satisfy those who were around her impinged a full stop to her smile. One evening I got a call from her parents, who conveyed that my friend was being admitted to the hospital as she was diagnosed with Lymphoma. The doctors opined that tension, anxiety, and overwhelming feelings induced the production of carcinogens. That moment an avatar of leadership possessed my body, obliging me to initiate change. Every nerve in my body darted up with ideas, and my heart was conflicted with several questions about the prevailing state of our society. I started campaigns- private social media stories, started petitions, debates, and hosted talk shows- to spread awareness on this alarming situation. Even though many parents criticized my efforts to eradicate the predicament, my relentless character indulged me in halting this issue. After several months of hard labor, my message reached out to my community, and they commenced meetings to persuade parents on ways students can accomplish a stress-free academic atmosphere. The world offers to be a stage for all of us who are mere players of the so-called drama of life. In it, I do believe that my role is to be remembered throughout eternity as a person who solves the unachievable. This experience has taught me that in life-giving ourselves a moment to breathe is essential to let our mind work.I have recently undergone stomach conditions caused by the anxiety developed in my body. We keep taking steps to destigmatize that going to a therapist means sickness but we always end up judging someone who goes to the therapist. I told my friends that I am going to visit the therapist and they all were in shock. They asked me if I was under depression or if something was off in my family. It's hard to break out of this stigma but awareness will improve the situation!

The planet is evolving as speedy as our body’s cells. On such a fast-paced planet we have to form an individualistic identity for ourselves. Adjusting to recent cultures and surroundings is key to enduring on this planet. I moved a few years ago from a country called India and our cultures are entirely distinct. Globalization has entitled immigrants to acclimate to a new culture and way of life with ease. This sociological growth around us is why I hold the privilege to gain a bachelor's in health sciences at the Ohio state university. Every human's life is separated into different stages and each stage unravels distinguishable lessons. At every stage, we stand up for diverse values. As a kid, I used to watch the news a lot and often I am deeply disturbed by the lack of egalitarian's weights in our society. This lacking has prevented many from receiving the life they deserve. We often blame the poor for their scarcity of finances. You all might be wondering where I am going with this? I know I am no superhuman who can transform the planet overnight and provide everyone the life they need. I have had the pain of witnessing many relatives resistant to go to the hospital cause of the lack of resources and the price tag added to their lives. Healthcare accessibly and its ready availability is questionable in today’s society. A long time ago I had to witness the pain of my best friend passing away cause of the lack of availability of health care and affordability for healthcare. Many years after coping with her loss I realized that I could grieve and be enraged, but I could make sure no one ever goes through the agony of witnessing a friend go away. This mindset possessed me with an avatar of leadership obliging me to inaugurate development. Words are just words, but actions beat them. I started campaigns, joined nonprofit organizations, petitions, and hosted talk shows to eradicate this predicament. I lack the proper techniques required. I believe that receiving this scholarship will be provided with the stamina to proffer my motto to a larger audience. I have always admired public speaking and voicing my opinions, by acquiring an opportunity to host conferences I can make more connections with fellow talented premed. I can start professing my idea on what it means to establish affordable healthcare. I will help destigmatize the anxiety people encounter when they have to go to the doctor's office. Believing in this motto, I started what I could to help spread awareness on the importance of health care affordability.Back in high school, I was the president of an organization called the National Science Honors Society, where I was able to discuss the significance of innovation in every stage of life. As a founder of a cultural org here at tOSU, I apprehend the difficulties behind offering a motto to a larger crowd and the work it takes to delegate tasks. We all live in a bubble and this bubble is very small. To expand the bubble, we need to increase its volume and decrease the pressure society holds. We need to step out of our bubble and contribute in the smallest way possible. This is the start of another chapter of my life, and I want all of you to be a part of it. By being a part of STEM and in STEM I hope to achieve my purpose using the vast resources in this feild.

In a small corner of the universe, there was a boy who had an intense passion for victory. He rested through heavy storms on gravel-covered roads cramming for his exams. His parents weren’t exemplary, his dad being a gambling addict, and his mom the lone breadwinner of the family. Drowned amidst criticisms from his relatives and exhausted from his dad's gambling activities, the boy embarked on a journey to his deceased grandparent's estate. The mansion contained a plethora of valuable artifacts that were safeguarded by serpents. The valuables were accessible to genuine souls, and the boy, being one, commenced to the discovery of one such valuable article. It was a petite gold leaf, the size of Princess Jasmine’s pendant, that shined brighter than an emerald. The boy held on to the pendant which led him to become successful in life. My mom handed over the box that contained the tiny leaf, and now I carry it with pride summarizing my father's obstacle-filled journey. The leaf showered moonlight everywhere, made everything appear silver. My father's story made me actualize that I gave up hastily. I still had to fulfill my existential purpose. I was yet to complete my performance in countless episodes and could not end my tale with a cliffhanger. Like my father, I had to strive for my full stop. Before my traumatic experience, I lived a journey filled with wonderment, and I couldn't let a small setback derail my reverie. This impediment shattered my self-esteem and personality, but I reached out of the gloomy tunnel more durable. A puzzle is whole only when every piece falls in its right place, similarly, my puzzle is incomplete without the obstacles I faced. I still give up in times of stress, but over the past couple of months, I have realized the meaning of living in the present. My mother's cheerful words, father's everlasting motivation, my sister’s mocking words, and friends’ frivolous characters help me realize that a small setback doesn’t have to pull me to the bottom of a well. This challenge I overcame rekindled the leader in me, and I was able to channel all life’s negatives into unearthing answers on ways I can abolish some of the most constraining problems in the world. The standardized tests were approaching, and I was able to remain calm as it felt diminutive in comparison to the other obstacles I have had and those yet to come. Using this attitude, every obstacle I encountered seemed insignificant in the long run. This is my story, a story that has obstacles and is overcome with support and trust. Finally, Like Sleeping, Beauty says:” opportunity knocks more than once... Well, if you didn’t hear it, then your door must have been very hard. It might come around again, so get a doorbell and stay alert. ”

My journey through the world of music commenced with my mom’s lullabies, dad’s musical critics, and an ancient music manuscript. No project other than singing establishes a rainbow in my eyes. I grew up listening to various artists and genres-pop, hip hop, classical, Bollywood, Tamil language, which has inspired me to look at life from different perspectives. Having seen an intense passion for singing in me, my parents took the initiative to train me in Indian classical music, therefore I joined Carnatic music, at five. It has been a long ride, and a pleasure to see my voice mature. To diversify my musical craving, I indulged myself in Hindustani music and western classical. Spreading my wings, I fused Indian classical with western playing with innovative forms. Singing was a medium I used to satisfy my pleasure of witnessing smiles on faces. It brings out the finest in me and helps me in times of stress. Sacrifices, positivity, self-confidence are qualities that I discovered through my singing journey. Music may just be a word or comfort to some, but for me, singing is a member of my family. I wish to pursue a music extracurricular in college as it will help me retain my identity. Finally, “Rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul.”-Plato
