Community work is something that can help anyone get involved and feel good about the work they are doing. The famous quote by Helen Keller "Alone, we can do so little; Together we can do so much." That quote has a very powerful meaning regarding how people should view getting involved as an act of good. Something that makes me unique is my sense of creativity and my personality is a very honest and straightforward person. The only way to be the best person in a community is to always show and do things to prove the part you play and to make sure you are yourself every step of the way. I have always enjoyed getting involved whenever I may have free time to feel productive and for my love of helping out. Especially this year as a senior I am in NHS which is the national honors society at my school. In this organization, we have to get at least 20 service hours and maintain a 4.0 GPA to stay a part of the group. This year I have done many things in my community to help me earn my hours. I have already gone over the 20-hour limit because I find so much joy in doing something not necessarily for my gain but for the people in helping along the way no matter who it is or what job I was doing. The change in a community does not just come from one person, it has to be a group effort. The main thing I focus on is just spreading the word to different people on how they can help around and what services they can enjoy doing. Being in the student council and NHS has helped me learn how to make a positive impact on my school and community. Another thing I have received from them is a better way to communicate and teamwork skills. I will always be grateful for the things those organizations have taught me and the help they also provide to the community. As a person that is very honest about how I feel at all times, I can always rely on myself to know when is enough and how proud I should be of my actions. No matter what, I can always do more to help out, but the best part about being involved is I do not feel guilty when I do want to have a day to myself. Some of the best things I have been a part of while volunteering has been, working concession stands for various basketball games and getting to spend time with animals while making toys for them. Most importantly, to take away from this is to never feel like you are done giving back because you can always find someone or something in need of help.

Since being in high school, I have been an officer for our drill team, a member of NHS (National Honor Society), and a member of the student council. Having leadership roles is a big responsibility and something that I take pride in doing well. For example, as a drill team officer, one of the most important things is to always treat everyone with respect by encouraging and guiding them even while correcting them. Being in the student council and NHS has helped me learn how to make a positive impact on my school and community. Another thing I have received from them is a better way to communicate and teamwork skills. Changing the world isn't a light task and only doable if you believe in yourself first. I have always been someone that is confident in my actions. If I like something that the majority of my peers aren’t interested in or don’t like, I won’t change my mind or feel bad about it. Staying true to myself is something I have always been encouraged to do. When you realize you have done something wrong, it is important to take responsibility for your actions, learn from them, move on, and strive to do better in the future. It’s always important to pursue something that you excel in naturally for your future and the benefit of society. My love for both math and science will help shape my future in engineering. I am often asked by my peers for help with math both in and outside of class. Teachers often encourage me to assist my peers as well. This makes me feel as though I am helping to shape their future by at least providing them with a positive outcome on their grades. When given an opportunity to use your skills and share your knowledge with others, do it because it will always be beneficial. For me, the idea of pursuing the field of civil engineering would escalate me into a field of some of the most brilliant minds in the world. Being surrounded by fellow civil engineers, I am without a doubt certain that everything I do moving forward could change the world. Lastly, everything I have learned in high school will carry on to my future at both colleges and in the workforce. Most importantly, to take away from this is to never feel like you're done learning because you can always get better at anything you do.
